Um, it's kinda hard to "focus" on that story when the first thing your eyes hit is the Fire-Engine-Red ad that says:

"Whiskey. Carbonara. Edible Panties. The Chronicle covers them all"

HAH?

SOO shocking...to my "conservative, New England Roots".

Yeah right LOL 8)

I guess Herbie didn't sign a gag order to keep quiet. Herbie is funny tho. Some of the stuff he says is hilarious!

I would love to sit down with HH and just listen to his stories. He seems like quite the character.

This interview leaves me hungry for more.
If only a certain Aussie rock website moderator would conduct the mother of all tell-all interviews with this man.

You read it already. Remember HH bashed everyone again?

Same.

Boring. He says the same thing over and over again. Too bad he can't just be creative and say something of interest and something that is current and not buried in the lives of these men some two decades ago.
Doesn't he do anything at all besides this stuff? Is he like unemployed?

Unemployed...

More like very wealthy, retired, wipes his ass with $100 bills, has amassed a fortune from which we wish we could siphon just 3% and be set for life.

don't care how much money he has. he still has no class. even if he was in the dark with a bag over his head; he'd still be a jerk and he'd still be a bore and obnoxious. it's not always about the money.

If having NO class is speaking the truth, then I have absolutely NONE.

Herbie is a breath of fresh air. he is more honest than the rest of the band combined.

Not me, I'd rather live comfortably than deal with the BS Herbie had to deal with.
I admire him greatly, but the $$$ doesn't really seem to have made him the happiest person on this earth.

You don't think it requires creative ingenuity to come up with lines like "It'd be nice if the band had some success, but frankly, there's more of a chance of my dick growing a foot" and "I wouldn't piss down Perry's throat if his heart were on fire"?
This man is a national treasure.
Show some respect.

oh please...show him some respect??? now that is just a ridiculous statement.

O really?

Without this guy, you may never have heard of Mr. Perry. In fact, you never would have.

Who says the man is speaking the truth? Who knows what is the truth?
He's comical. He's funny. He's creative. He is a joke.

Having his dick grow a foot or pissing down a guy's throat...oh, I think if he was a bit more creative than I'd be laughing at what he said and not what he implied.

Not as ridiculous as you imploring Herbie to start "[saying] something of interest".
Aside from Herbie, NOBODY even tenuously connected to the Journey camp EVER says anything of interest.
Firstly, you're lucky if one of the guys even talks at all, and even then, when they do, it is usually pre-vetted santized PR pap.

Now that is a ridiculous statement as well. You mean to tell me I would never have heard about SP if it has not been for HH. You mean to tell me that SP would still be out there working in the turkey coops and scooping out the crap now if it wasn't for HH. You think?

Herbie is recounting Journey history as he literally saw it go down.
It is up to you to decide whether or not to believe him.
I choose to do so, if you don't, hey, no biggie.
Perhaps journeymusic.com's revisionist biography concerning the band (which omits anything even remotely juicy or interesting) is more to your liking?

Marabelle wrote:I think if he was a bit more creative than I'd be laughing at what he said and not what he implied.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, and in all your years of posting I have yet to see you make anything even remotely resembling a joke or containining a single iota of humor.
Keep casting stones from high atop your temple mount, you sanctimonious phony.

Well yes it is true. The Journey men are as boring as white bread.

Difficult to say.
Some accounts say Perry was still pursuing a job in the 'biz, while other say that he had washed his hands of the music industry entiriely when Herbie came a'calling.
I don't know what to believe.
Whatever the case may be, the fact that Herbie had to cover the expenses for Perry to come out to discuss Journey shows me that Perry was certainly in dire financial straits.

If it's MY character that is soo weak, then how come you are the one obviously smarting from being called the innocuous term of "sanctimonious phony".
C'mon, this is largely G-rated family stuff.

I'd vote to believe the latter, only because Perry has washed his hands of the Journey success so many times after Herbie came calling.

True. I don't believe he ever finished college, and he was unsuccessful at breaking into the music biz on his own. If it weren't for Herbie, Perry might be still working odd jobs, since he didn't seem to have the intensity, nor the will, to push forward, which is neccessary to achieve success.

Don't forget they've all signed non-disclosure agreements -- there's stuff they *can't* talk about. Herbie didn't sign anything, so he can say what he wants. Is everything he says pure gospel? No, it's Journey as he recollects it. Is there more truth to what he says than someone else? Possibly since he doesn't have to abide by any legal agreements, but he's still going to put himself in the best light possible. Just as any one else would.

I don't know that I'd want to sit down and have a chat with Herbie about his view of/experiences with Journey. I have *very* few illusions about the guys by now, but I'd rather not totally lose what illusions are left. Sometimes, it's best to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. ;)

Ya know, if someone takes the time to say they might be offended by something you write, I think it is up to YOU to respect their wishes. I don't believe it is right of you to tell them to grow a thicker skin....
