Oh it's not just that. They had a bunch of "famous" Latin performers record it, We are the World style...and there's an English "breakdown" verse in the middle, talking about how mean the gov't is and how "we can't help it where we were born".

And it's being released as a pop single to Spanish-language radio.

I've heard part of it. Absolute bullshit. Enraging.

You know, if we took the Mexican national anthem, rerecorded it in English, and included verses about how mariachi music blaring at 2 am is annoying and taco truck food tastes like shit, we'd be branded racists.

Although "La Cucaracha" has a pretty tough beat to wrap lyrics around, it'd take some doing to rewrite it anyway.

I have some thoughts on that subject.

The first and foremost reason for Bush's velvet glove policy on illegals is that he and his wealthy, corporate cronies can get a lot richer, a lot quicker(as in before the Reps lose power), paying these people slave wages than they could paying American citizens a living wage.

The second reason is that he and his party courted the Latino vote so heavily by making big promises and they can't afford to lose them now that the party is in such bad favor.

Illegal should mean ILLEGAL and should be dealt with as such. The expense of doing so would soon be covered by the savings in government subsidy money if there was an honest person in government to manage the budget. Gee, do you suppose someone like that even exists? I don't anymore(Where is Ross Perot when you need him? ).

tHE PROBLEM IS, THERE ACTUALLY IS NOBODY TO PICK ALL THOSE GRAPES AND DO ALL THOSE JOBS FOR CENTS ON THE DOLLAR oops that the illegals do.

This is a problem "we" as a nation have created from years of apathy. Business is to blame for realizing it could save money by paying under the table. Businesses figured out that it could pay twice the wages of other countries and still be half of what is fair in the U.S.

And we have let it go for so long that it is now an epidemic. If we had remained vigilant, and made the businesses pay for their actions, this would not be a problem now. I cannot blame the immigrants for taking advantage of our leanience (sp?).

It is just odd that this has become such a big deal in the past 3-4 months. What about the last 10-20 years?
