Time To Think About New Material Yet?

I think it is...be it another EP (which Neal has said they're not opposed to doing again, and at one time even said they would do exclusively from now on) or a laying down of tunes for a full-blown the follow up to Generations. Yes, $ constraints seem to get in the way but I think they cleared enough coin on Generations with the giveaway and retail added together to make it feasible to put something new out by 2007.
Also proven to me at least is that there is definately a rock-creating magic still present in the Schon/Cain(Augeri) duo. TPIYH is S/C, FITH is S/C/A. EG is S/C....BT is S/C/A, OOHW (Still a monster) is S/C....I think the brilliant ABL is a S/C. I'm hoping they're planning some real Schon/Cain/Augeri collaborative sessions on the DL summer tour or that maybe even they have good stuff in the can.

I believe an ACTIVE band should always be thinking new material....and once they stop, I stop being interested in them.

I would be dissapointed if I didn't have at least 4 new songs from them by next summer.

I hope they do put something out. An "experimental" EP like Red13 would be cool. Augie sounds busy with the upcoming tour and the Tall Stories stuff.

Can't we have Perry take care of polishing up and producing the TS material freeing Augie up to lay down some Vox?

This band shows no desire to record new music together. So unless Steve again becomes the catalyst for a new record, it just ain't gonna happen. Journey does not care about the headaches of releasing and promoting new material. All they want to do is tour. It is the easiest road to the most money...

Furthermore, most of their fans will agree that Journey deserves a break after all the touring they have been doing! And to be honest (IMO) if Journey are not willing to get together, take some time off the road, and devote several months to writing and jamming, before every going in to record, then it will be a waste of time. I am certain Neal has ideas running through his head, as well as Jon and Steve. But the guys really need to work the ideas. I am all for spontineity and energy but Journey needs some polish too. "Generations" was a good CD. I still rank it very high on my list despite some of the faults. The most glaring "fault" is the rushed feel I get from it. It sort of like a fresh loaf of bread being taken out of the oven just a little to early. It smells great and tastes good, but falls a little flat.

New material?Naw.Time to think about something else.
Here`s the short and sweet version.
1.Journey should finish the 2006 tour and then take a break. An official one.
2.Let Augeri do his thing with TS.Let him sing the way he wants. No more shoes to fill,no pressure.
3.Neal should give Perry a call.ASAP.No,wait!Jonathan should do it.He owes Perry that call.
4.At the end of this year an official press release.Perry returns to Journey.2007 Reunion Tour.A DVD+ live CD from the tour.
Then everyone goes home and sleeps well at night.

Yep.Journey should retire in ALL their glory. That`s how people must remember them.
Of course,I can give you reasons for each of those 4 points. Not that I would need to...

2) This IS the way Augeri sings. Heard Tall Stories? His Perryesque vocals were a big reason he's Journey's singer.

3) Neither schon nor cain "owes perry that call." That call, also happens to be permanantly out there. Schon and Augeri have said repeatedly it's an open invitation for Punxatawney Perry.

The biggest reason this will not happen is that Perry's voice is no more and he shuns the limelight now. Perry did get back with Journey in 1996 and the result was their worst album ever. Perry was a shadow of his former self then, what makes you think he sounds any better 10 years later?

I heard Augeri with TS.He was Steve Augeri all the way.Now he is Steve Perryesque Augeri."Break those chains that bind you"...He should.

Augeri must be out of this equation. The deal is between Perry,Schon and Cain.It would be a reunion, not a one night stand.

Augeri has outed himself from that equation, should some of our worst fears come true and Perry deign to treat the world to more than a 1-night show. He's said he'd step aside for good if that be the case. Now, Hold your breath for that. Please.

Yes, Augie is all class. Perry shows NO interest, so I don't know why people keep saying this should happen. It is 2006. The 80's are over. Enjoy the old and new music. Go to the shows. Have fun.

Just because you don`t like TBF it doesn`t mean it`s a bad album.
Just because Perry didn`t break glass on the 1996 record doesn`t mean he couldn`t sing.
10 years after? Perry is a pro.He would know exactly how to handle his performance, both naturally and technically.Add the incredible technology used nowadays in live situations. With the right tools,Perry would sound just fine.

Hey,we are not discussing who has class and who sucks.Leave those things behind the curtain. This is about the band`s business. And it is not about the past. It`s about what should happen in 2007 on stage.

Hey, if you're happy with a propped-up, smoke and mirrors Perry, I can see why you want it to happen. I prefer to remember his voice when it was the best in the biz.

How about addressing the lack of desire from Perry?

Just jump in here rudely:

I don't think TBF sucks but Perrys voice had went down hill at that point.
Maybe already on his 2nd solo album,Even though i haven't heard him sing
in 10 years,i guess his voice isn't what it used to be.

Some singers have kept there voice Perry has not, just nature.
2 ex of which kept there voices are Glenn Hughes and Bobby Kimball.

Tomas.

That may be true...But, in Perry's case he can no longer hide the radical changes in his voice by using a computer and a studio.

Fine...then they could write a few new songs, perform then on this tour and capture them...and release them on their website for download. It doesn't sound that difficult to me.

Perry owes Journey! Perry needs to stay away from Journey and do his own thing (which right now is nothing). Perry needs to get his butt in the studio and sing his butt off, on new material (rock or whatever) or do a covers cd. But he needs to get out there and do SOMETHING!!!!!!-ERIC

Even if his voice changed,I can bet he still sings pretty damn well.I didn’t say he would have to *hide* his present voice.I was thinking about some technical help that most singers use both in studio and on stage.
Perry is no longer capable of intensive touring, he couldn’t sing his ass of on an every night basis, but he could be up to one last reunion tour.
2 or 3 nights a week for about 3 months. Enough to cover all the major cities and relaxed enough to avoid vocal fatigue.

I BET EVERY SINGLE one of you, the guy still has something. God forbid he is better than present day Augeri. Fuck, who isn't? I am better than Steve Augeri. Augeri cannot sing anylonger....sorry, the truth hurts.

.I didn’t say he would have to *hide* his present voice

why hide it? Hell, his voice today is tens of times better than any guy in music.......these dissenters have never seen the guy live. Fuck em...I am 100% behind Steve Perry. Steve Augeri, you were once cool...but dude, you have soured the shit out of me. Only you know why. I know.

Perry is no longer capable of intensive touring, he couldn’t sing his ass of on an every night basis,

Disagree, 1000% With work and effort, he blows Augeri out of the country. Sorry folks, I know the truth..Perry on his worse day his better than Augeri on his best. And ANYONE who thinks differently is FULL OF SHIT. Is that opinion? No, it's fact.

but he could be up to one last reunion tour.

It WILL happen. Trust me.

All you Augeri lovers....need to come correct. Oh, and to those of you who DON'T know me, I was a 100% percent supporter of the current lineup. There is a reason for my switch.

Neal, as one of your biggest fans, and "realistic fans," even though the guy is a huge dick, a big asshole, and has questionable character, please ask him back for one last tour...PLEASE...I am begging you. End this Karaoke act. Fire Augeri. He tried, and God Bless him, did well for 4 years. He is done. He CANNOT SING anylonger. Hell, make the correct decision ONCE in regards with Journey.

Hell,I don`t know what you obviously know for a fact, but my intuition tells me you are right.
Like I said myself,Journey should think of a glorious retirement from the industry. The only way to do it is with Perry.

Now THIS I can finally hang with. He could undertake a tour like FTLSM, and play his solo hit and cover the Jrny classics and I'd be fine w/ the way he sounds. No reason to hide behind sleight of chords...

Even if his voice changed

there is no 'if' about it...even Perry has admitted it.

I can bet he still sings pretty damn well.

He hasn't sung like his former self since the first part of the ROR tour.

I didn’t say he would have to *hide* his present voice.I was thinking about some technical help that most singers use both in studio and on stage.

Perry sounds raspy and without range on TBF and even on FTLOSM. Augeri sounds %100 better then Perry on Generations. I will take the talent that continues to impress me over the former talent who hasn't really impressed me in 20yrs.

Perry is no longer capable of intensive touring

Perry hasn't completed a full tour since Frontiers. He will never tour again. I doubt he will ever perform live again, with or without the rest of Journey.

[quoe]he couldn’t sing his ass of on an every night basis[/quote]

He hasn't sung a full set of songs live since the FTLOSM tour, almost 15yrs ago. I doubt he could sing a set of a dozen songs.

but he could be up to one last reunion tour.

Every bit of evidence I have heard points me to believing he couldn't sing a single song live and make it anything less then a disaster.

2 or 3 nights a week for about 3 months. Enough to cover all the major cities and relaxed enough to avoid vocal fatigue.

He 'relaxed' his voice for years following ROR, and his live voice for the FTLOSM tour still sounded he needed to hack up a hairball.

Perry will never go out on tour...his voice won't take it.

LOL. Why would they even think about that? I just spent $175 for two tickets for Lep/Journey...in an arena these guys would be performing in back in the 80's. The mere suggestion of retiring Journey probably makes Neal laugh. It's a ridiculous suggestion.

Back during "Under the Radar", people were whining that they were playing the fairs...that it was over, and blah, blah, blah. Now they have had a VERY succesful anniversary tour, and are selling to the larger arenas with DL, and people STILL want them to retire. Give up already...it ain't happening - and it shouldn't.
