To save everyone some trouble:

Do you set aside windows of time for relaxation when you’re on tour?

JS: Well, it’s funny. Years ago, when I was doing my very first tour for Surfing With The Alien, I checked into a haunted hotel in Austin, Texas. I didn’t know it was haunted at the time. It was a pretty unusual night, and it was a night off. I got a message that Steve Perry called, the singer in Journey. I didn’t know who he was, you know. I though it was a joke, one of my friends playing a joke on me.
So, I returned the call, and sure enough it was Steve Perry. He said, "I just wanted to say that I’m a fan, and I’m really happy for your success. But I thought I’d call and give you some advice." I thought, well, okay, thanks. [Laughing] I said, "What is it?" And he answered, "During this period, you’re going to have to learn to relax." Actually, I think he used the phrase ‘to veg out’. "Just get used to it," he added. "If you have a night off, don’t go out. Lie in your bed in your hotel room and watch a movie. Just don’t do anything. Get used to not moving when you don’t have to." I thought it was kind of strange. We talked about other things, too.

Thanks J28! I should have done that, but Joe is mentioned here from time to time and I am thinking most would enjoy the whole article.

I am sure many will read the entire interview. But just for the sake of talking about Perry I cribbed it.

That being said, I think it is very cool that Perry would offer up that kind of advice to someone he respects. Seems a little strange to just call someone up out of the blue like that to pass on some of his wisdom...may be even a little arrogant. But it was beneficial to Satch so I think it is very cool. And for him to still remember Perry for it, and to talk about it shows respect!

Nicely said! I agree

The timing of that call from Perry would have been 1987-88, after his breakup with Journey. He was probably pissed and burnt out when he made that call.

That seems to be a good barometer(look it up Lori, I know you don't know what barometer means), to test Perry's "fire." Someone find him and chuck a beer bottle in his direction. If he gets all pissed, he is back. If he continues walking down Ventura Blvd, I'd say he is still in lazy mode.

Why Can't he get a follow up top FTLOSM going? He's gotta have tons of tunes...

He can't find a songwriter willing to do the work and give him the credit.

Not an album this time, but a tour:
Puxatawney Perry and the Busted Hip Band: "The Perry Brings It Tour"
performing songs from his Greatest Hits + 5 Unreleased cause Sony thought they sucked as well as some of Journey's Greatest Hits --Tuned Down Two Whole Steps!
The first time Perry's brought it since 1996, or live in 1994, or maybe at the Bill Graham Memorial, well 1986 for sure...

Pretty easy to bash a guy who had over 30 hits with Journey. Yet you somehow defend Augeri who flatout sucks.

Amazing.

If anything, I respect Perry for stepping down when he felt he couldn't bring it, when he probably still could, albeit a step down.

...now this I might be able to agree with...so why would he come back now, another decade later. I've always managed to bash him without calling him the many names you have, dildo being the most recent, you don't have any more respect for him than I do.

Why bash Perry? Father Time has done a number on his voice. It's sad, yes, but he is almost 60. Let him enjoy his baseball games.

Respect? Well as a person, I think he is a piece of shit, but a singer, the very best ever. There is a difference.

Ask me the same about Augeri. No respect on either front.

But you know, in the ten years off, he may fully have been able to adapt his voice, mend it, and re-use it.

Kind of like a rested racehorse, who hasn't run in 4 months, and yet fires in the KY Derby, as we saw three weeks ago.

I bet you my left testical, Perry could sing great now. Maybe not as high as the escape days, or even the Frontiers era, but definetely in the ROR period.

By the way, Bruce is nearing 60, and sings well. Mick is 90 and still sings, and there are others.

Hell, even I don't think Perry would sound as bad as these two always have.

Please do. He doesn't have any left.

I'm not God, but also am not afraid to judge anybody's character. I call it as I see it.

No he never has. Bruce would be the first to tell you that.

Perry has never sounded as bad as SA either.

Look at the whole picture before you judge. What one tells you or you hear from someone who heard from someone, who heard...........may not always be the way it is-ERIC

I know what he did the last 2 years. Guy has NO CLASS. I challenge ANY band member, friend or whatever, to dispute it. Fuck Augeri.

You "know what he did" and yet he still sounded atrocious every single night last year?

When he actually sang something, which was about 20 seconds of the end of the song, he sounded like shit. The rest of the song he was on cruise control.

I don't know which is worse; Augeri's voice or your blindness.

What exactly do you mean by "when he actually sang something?" Who/what is singing other than the last 20 sex of each number?

O you are a tricky fucker, fucker.

Ok, Augeri sang every song. Perfectly. You should join up at BT. Augeri is a god over there.
