Where the hell are you, Jeremy?
The place has been back up and running for a while. Might be good to have you weigh in on recent matters....

Hey you guys, how's everyone doing. Been really getting into painting a lot lately and also doing a solo show once a week, so I've been really busy... Believe it or not, just came in this evening and started reading all the threads with the comparisons, etc...I listened to one of the tracks, the Separate Ways tracks, and yes, it is a recording of Augeri playing back live. I took both tracks into Vegas multitracking, normalized them and panned one 100% left and the other 100% right. The result is an identical stereo track, the results of which can be heard here:
www.journeytributeband.com/sepwayssynch.mp3
I've pretty much suspected as much for a while. I don't really have any comment on it, the band's gotta do what they gotta do to make a living, and those tours beat Augeri all to hell for many years. Pretty much any band out there you see today is going to be doing this, though, so it really isn't any big deal. Gotta give Frontiers a plug here, of course, 3 hours of live Journey music, fuckups and all, so come out and catch a show this summer...

Jeremey? Dude, I've met you a bunch of times down here in Charlotte.
THIS GUY DOES PERRY BETTER THAN STEVE DID IN 1983. No shit. ANYONE, and I mean, ANYONE who is a Journey fan (moderate or obsessive) needs to take a road trip to wherever these guys are playing. Frontiers is the best tribute band out there.
P.S. Jeremey - sorry I missed the last show - I was out of town and didn't know you guys had played until Monday. So much for Amos' promotional team.

Ouch!It's hard to distrust science.
Thank you for taking time to do it, Jeremey.

A Foreigner state of mind!
Same song! Listen...
"Is this a road going nowhere?
Or is someone leading us somewhere?"

OK....
THIS I was able to listen to; we do have "QuickTime".
As a singer, I am NOW
OFFICIALLY PISSED OFF!!
What the F@#K??
People are gonna pay TOP $$$$ for someone to go over to a machine and press "play"??
Somebody should throw a Milli Vanilli wig onstage during their next show...because Steve is SCAMMING EVERYONE!!!
Oh yeah one other thing:
The first chorus of SW is the one they played ON THE BTM AT THE END - during their Vegas show....my sonic ears picked that one up immediately!!
Sounds like that's the one they're STILL USING.
Steve Perry please get your ass back onstage...I don't care if you're somebody's BACKUP singer!!

The Foreigner tune is MUCH MUCH better! Love that song!

Hey everyone again!
Hey Seven Wishes, thanks for the compliment! Hope to see you next month at Amos' (we got rained out of Alive After Five last Thursday!)...
NIG - We are at Ned Devine's in Herndon on July 1st, then (GULP) July 7th at Clarendon Grill in Arlington - Yes, the night the Journey/Def Lep show rolls into town. I'll make an open invitation to make our show the "official" after party of the concert that night. Hell, we don't even go on until around 11ish anyway, maybe I can convince Ross to get into a cab and make it to the show.
Finally, about the track I posted here - I guess "technology" is a better term than "science," but any way you cut it, it's what's happening at concert venues all over the country every night. Tons of bands do it, for lots of different reasons.
Having seen Steve during the Under The Radar tour, I can say that he wasn't lip synching that night, because his voice sounded tired and he ducked lots of notes. However, at the House of Blues show in MB last November, he sounded GREAT, though there didn't seem to be a big connection with the music, and I'm almost positive there was synching going on.
My suspicion is this: The tracks are always there, but not always put through the house PA. The entire Journey show is done to click track with BGV and rhythm guitars and synth licks throughout the show. The lead or "guide" vocal is sent on it's own channel out to the front of house mixer as well....My guess is that depending on the night or the song, the engineer will blend a mix of the guide vocal and the live mic depending on how well Steve's voice is holding up. End of the mystery, bada bang bada bing....

Thanks Jeremy, that is close to what I have been saying on other threads. Maybe with you saying it they will listen, and put to rest this mess.-ERIC

You have not been saying this. You've been trying to say this was never happening.

I was the HOB show on the floor right in front of Steve, about three people back and didn't notice anything, so if it was going on, he was doing a great job of covering. I find your theory about the rhythm guitars interesting, as Neal has always said he prefers to have the rhythm guitar drop out when he solos on record so that the live performance will be the same as the recording. I haven't heard any rhythm guitars when Neal solos that weren't provided by Jon. I have notice a few sampled brief guitar sounds in the intros to Higher Place and State of Grace.

RE: The intro's to HP and SOG, yep. Cain got them in programmed into his keys and plays those licks...

I can hear / see it now:
"Here we stand....worlds apart; hearts broken in 2...2...2...
2....2...2...2....2....2...."
...oh yeah - it's "Separate WAYS", NOT "Separate Wheeze" - that's what it sounds like he's saying....

I heard that too, but I thought the spelling was "weeees."
