Steve Perry NEVER EVER lipped a lead vocal. Funny how you say he is the voice of rock, yet quickly state he had help on lead vocal tracks, and then defend a singer with less than half the talent, saying he never lips...Jesus.

Now, for some more information.

NIG, 13 and other anti Loon posters. I know why you are so against this. You are afraid that the Loons will get ahold of this, and that they will be victorious. It is always been like this – even if the truth hurts it is liberating when you come clean. It’s always better to have a clear conscience than to compromise and live with the guilt of blanketing the truth.
I have to say that I admire Dean for having the strength and the backbone to go all the way and to take all the risks.I for one, do not blame him for taking attitude and exposing the facts.Despite of what some of you would think,that IS the attitude of a real fan.Put it this way – if you really love someone,tell them when they are wrong.It’s like when your significant other starts doing drugs and you find out.You find the drugs,you find the needle.What do you do? Do you ignore the facts and keep lying that everything is fine or do you face the truth and say “Hey,I know you are doing drugs” and then try to find a way to see what can be done.
I am sure Dean loves Journey,even now,even after being deceived by the band he grew up with.And I am also sure that this whole thing hurts him very much.It’s not easy to find out that someone you loved for your whole life is been cheating on you…

As for Journey…well,besides the music and all,it’s a machinerie,an institution. It’s a cruel industry out there and every artist has to find the best way of staying in the business.However, they are artists,and IMO,the saddest thing artists can do is to deceive the ones who love them.It is heartbreaking to know that the people who are supporting,both financially and emotionally this band, are considered fools. Yeah,it’s a harsh word …but it`s how it looks like.

In my pm I sorta meant I'd say Deano was right provided it's confirmed officially not "proven" beyond a reasonable doubt with digital soundclips in a thread here. Journey actually being officially accused, then addressing the issue in an official capacity, issuing an admittal and apology is more of what I thought of as criteria for the issuance of my statement.

Is it possible that Journey "sweetens" the live vocals a bit? Sure. Most hard rock bands do. For Journey, they already have an added assistance with Deen's backing vocals.

Def Leppard uses a lot of tricks live. Instrumentally and vocally there are things going on. Kiss (a former favorite of mine) is a virtual joke. Guitars not plugged in, added backing vocals. In fact, they go so far sometimes as to sing over a live soundcheck tape where they knew there were no mistakes.

Yngwie Malmsteen used Joe Lynn Turners vocals on tape during the chorus of Heaven Tonight, after Joe had left the band (which was really weird).

Is Steve Augeri flat out lip synching? - nope. No way. Some occassional tricks, sure, what band doesn't? But he's hit enough "bad" notes on shows that I have seen and have on tape to know that he is singing live for the most part. I just watched the Baltimore DVD from the Generations tour and Wolf Trap from the previous tour and the songs do not match the Casino Rama shows I have from recent years. I could go listen to every single boot that I have but I have no desire to drive myself crazy hearing Ask the Lonely 25 or 30 different times.

For those who think that Steve Perry never had any help live, you're also kidding yourself. Especially if you think you could insert him into Journey now and that he would sound like he did on the Houston Escape show 25 years ago. That's laughable. It's also the show everyone seems to judge his entire live career on because it's the most readily available footage. I've heard many performances where I wasn't satisfied with his vocals, where he flat out rushed songs and didn't sound that great. Doesn't mean he wasn't a fantastic singer though. However some of the idol worship that goes on with him is really embarrasing and downright strange.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents, take it for what you will. It's really a shame to see what goes on between fans of this band sometimes. I'm just happy they still exist and I can hear some new music and catch them live every once in awhile.

Last time I saw Augeri in person was the Baltimore show. He pulled away the mic a couple of times to avoid some high notes here and there. If he were lip synching he would not have done that.

My friend and I were watching this very closely since we know he had been having some problems early on in the tour with the 3 hour shows. There were a couple of notes from the Generations songs (especially in "Faith") that we were wondering if he could hit or not.

For the please bring Steve Perry back crowd, I only wish he WOULD come back so they could drop the songs down to a lower key and the myth would be destroyed. No way he can perform these songs today.

Personally I like the guy and wish he'd tour on his own. Then there would be a comparison of Perry 1983 vs. what he has left in the tank today. For the amount of vigilant (psychotic?) fans he has today, you think he would give something back to them by performing live - but he won't.

I think those comparisons would embarass him, which is why he shuns the music world now, except for the occasional BG vox. The man is a perfectionist, supposedly, so he doesn't want his limitaitons exposed. Perfectly understandable.

Agreed. Very rational statement.

Fact is Steve Perry is one of my favorite frontmen ever. The fact also is he is 57 freaking years old. I don't blame him for not wanting to perform. If he did, he would need a lot more help than Augeri gets from Deen's backing vocals or some sound sweetening here and there

Steve Perry might still be able to carry a tune in a lower register. Journey's songs a helaciously difficult even for a young man. Augeri is doing an admirable job performing them and never gets cut any slack from the pro Perry crowd. That's why I'd love to see Perry get up there and see them all hang there heads when he wouldn't live up to their expectations.

Had Steve Perry never left the band, Journey would still be in about the same position they are now. Face it, bands like Journey, Styx, Foreigner, etc are nostalgia acts. We are very fortunate that any of them bother to make any new music or tour at all. They are old men for God's sake.

It is the era of American Idol (unfortuantely). You can't turn back the clock, but you can enjoy what is still left of your favorite bands.

This Augeri witch hunt is just that. And it's pretty sad. he's 47 himself and has been asked to sing incredibly tough material for a long long time now. Material that he sometimes struggles with and that Steve Perry couldn't sing at all anymore. An almost 60 year old man singing this stuff - forgetaboutit.
