WITH PRACTICE??

Postby yogi » Wed May 31, 2006 3:25 am

In sports, most of the time if you retire for more than a couple of years there is NOOOO way you could make a comeback and be effective at all. If you retire because of age(old), and then try to make a comeback your chances of succeeding are virtually zero. Boxing may be the exception to this rule.

Anyway, I will show my music ignorance here now. Is the same true for the lead singer of a vocally driven rock and roll band??

I have read it here a thousand times that Steve Perry's voice is shot. If this is true, and Steve decided that he truly wanted to make a comeback could he get professional help to bring his voice back?? With the proper training and practice could it withstand the rigors of a long tour?? Would it sound the same???

Here we go..............

This ought to be fun.

I'll go first.

Perry shut it down for the simple reason he couldn't please his own standards of excellence. He could have half-assed it another 7 years, but chose not to. I for one respect that. Of course there were other problems as well that Perry brought on himself. Aside from rigorous touring year after year, and mowing down mountains of coke, that tends to destroy the voice, Jeremy and Nora can comment on "refurbishment of the voice," but I would think he has practiced, and with more and more of it, as well as getting his body back in shape, he most certainly can come back. I personally think it is going to happen. Will it sound like Evolution or Departure? Hell no. Will it sound like Escape or Frontiers? Even more hell no. But can it sound like Raised on Radio or Trial by Fire? I say yes.

As far as a tour, if there will ever be a tour again with Journey, it of course will be the "Farewell Finale" but IMO, it couldn't be night after night the whole way. I would guess he could do 3 night a week tours. Of course these shows wouldn't have to be casinos or fairs. It would be hockey arenas and state of the art performance centres.

Just my two cents.

Perry himself has said that it would take him about 3 months to get his voice in shape. I do not know if that is "recording" shape or "touring" shape. But I believe Perry still sings a little here and there, in the shower, whatever. I am thinking it would take 3 months of vocal and endurance training for him to regain the strength in his voice necessary to perform live. But I do not think he can lose the rasp or regain the range. That being said, I am certain he could perform admirably if he has the desire to do so. With that rasp and lower range he was able to convey so much emotion when singing. I believe he would again. But IMO his "rockin'" days are over.

I believe he could do it. No doubt with vocal training it could happen (that being that he is as bad as so many have posted). My guess is that any Perry fan would like to see him in concert regardless. I'm sure after a couple of shows the general concensus would be out.

Though I'd love to hear him perform Escape one last time - I'd be happy with anything!

Peace to all~

With Practice

Postby Tree » Wed May 31, 2006 3:49 am

I personally DO believe Steve Perry will sing again.....AND hopefully do a small tour of major cities. When I was at the star this month and met the man I can guarantee you his voice showed none of the raspyness of the past few years. He sounded great and was talking about "practicing the scales to see what hes still got" which is a direct quote from Mr Perry himself.

In my opinion he has a big surprise in store for all the critics out there who say hes "lost his voice" ... we'll see about that!

I think Perry is a "Powerhouse" and if he
wants it he will work to achieve his best
vocals to meet his own standards.

Wish you could just flash more money at the guy
and have him singing again but I guess not.

Welcome Tree good memories you have there
I'm sure, glad you decided to join us.

I don't know about that Tree. He has new man boobs and still has big fuck handles. Having just given out my homo stance on Mr. Perry, I do agree with you. Perry will be commercially heard from either late this year, or next year for sure. I bet my life on it.

Yeah, curious minds would like to know.
However, don't tell journeytroll which one you are, he doesn't care for any of you.(that's a huge loss, I know).

Speaking of videos, I was watching WCTNGF...Anyone happen to catch yours truly in that one?

Sure,

http://youtube.com/watch?v=KSiJSYTtZMY& ... %20forever

It was filmed at two places I believe. One that I know of is Angels Camp, CA, an outdoor festival and the other is Atlanta ( I think). I am walking into the show at Angels..I went for a beer but they weren't open yet...fuckers..it was 1030AM.

My ex girlfriend Stacey is the blonde who gets Perrys autograph and smiles. I hope Lula doesn't see this; she gets steamed like a pissed off crab when she sees it.

Tree speaks the truth. He is freakin amazing in person. He's not heavy at all. The pictures make him seem like he is but in person he's not at all. He's slimmed down, working the scales, past that if I can give my opinion. Yup, Deano, he's coming back. I'd lay money on it.

I have maintained this for some time now. I even told Andrew he was full of shit when he said there was no way he was.

He told us that he is sprinkling some new (not new material to him) in with the old on his solo rematered material that is slated to come out in the fall. He told me, talking directly to me that he's remixed..If you need me, call me. I've been told that Sony will promote this remastered stuff too. He's pavin the way for his return.

Can anyone say "Inverted?"

Although I don't want old songs re-released or remixed, I think that's lazy, it definetely sparks the conversations......

Perry comes back. Gets Sonys' push. Pisses off Journey fans(some of them). Oh, this will be an argumentative Summer.

Anyway, if they don't release Dallas, which I don't think they can now, Journey will slide under perry and the talk of the reunion will be huge.

This tour, and what happens in it, behaviourial speaking, is one of the most important time in Journey's history.

Lazy it might be but it's smart marketing. People have to know he's still around that are not into Journey. This will get his name 'out there' again.

Yes, this will be an interesting summer. I never for a minute believe he will sing with 'the J word' again. Both camps have moved on. It's the best in my opinion.

Yes, the "J" word has moved on by recording touring and continuing to please their fans. Espee has moved on by watching as many Dodgers games as he can.

Ok Mr. Fucking Negative. You have NEVER made a prediction on here. All you do is hang back and snipe. Read the writing on the wall, dumbass.. It is going to happen. Why wouldn't you want him to sing? Or sing with Journey? I cannot think anyone seriously does not want to see that, and if you say yes, you only want Augeri, you are either 1) Lying, or 2) have never seen Perry with Journey. It's night and day. Stupid fuck.
