Got your attention.

Ok, I was researching some singer symptoms. Air conditioning, alcohol, dairy, common cold, drugs....drugs...coke, and more coke...all bad stuff for vocalists.

This is for anybody obviously, but especially Nora and Jeremey. You two think doin mountains of blow would harm the voice? Especially a great voice like Perry's? I am not saying perry was an addict..NO. I am saying he did do it over time, and was wondering if you guys think that coke is that harmful.

I thought I have tried everything, but never experienced cocaine.

Anyone on here who has done it, in your opinion, does it fry your chords or just take it's toll?

Nora, ever slam a few lines down and then go sing Open Arms? Tell us.

Had to chime in with my 2 cents worth. No - never used it. But, Stevie Nicks was a long time user of it and it messed up her nasal passages terribly. I remember seeing a special about her several years ago and she said that she had to have plastic surgery (a few times) to repair the damage that it did to her nasal passages - literally tore a hole through the lining (or something to that effect).

Interesting topic Rock!

Read the same, Lizz. Nicks did it like it was her full-time job.

Oooh,my favourite subject, the misteries of the human voice..
I have no idea how would drugs affect my voice because I never did any kind of drugs.I get naturally high.
Anyway, from the tons of things I have read about the subject,it seems cocaine really damages the larynx and the respiratory tract as well as the sinuses.
When used on long terms the voice loses its brilliance and its cutting edge.

A laryngologist explained the effects of the cocaine and other drugs on the voice of the professional singers.
I have the excerpt:

Drugs not only prevent a singer from making the instantaneous modifications that are intrinsic to good singing,
but some street drugs also interfere with reaction time and motor control directly.
In some cases, they may also decrease feeling (particularly narcotics) and allow a singer to injure himself without feeling pain.
This can result in serious or permanent vocal fold damage as the singer continues to use his voice, perhaps remaining oblivious to the problem until the next day.
Certain street drugs, particularly "uppers," may also cause a tremor that can be heard in the singing voice.

Well, alcohol is no better as it can affect the voice in several ways.Because it is a depressant and muscle relaxant,
it harms the control of the vocal folds and then the drying effect of alcohol can cause irritation
in the tissues of the vocal tract. That will cause a raspy or hoarse voice.

Perhaps we can start a list of the most ardent Blow singers?

Eddie Money comes to mind rather quickly.

Mick Jagger slurred an awful lot of words on the '76 through '82 tours.

I don't know for sure, but I'll bet my daughter that Steven Tyler did tons of snow. Dudes nostrils are more powerful than my new Oreck 1600. Last time I saw a mouth that big it had a hook in it.

Dude, my Mother was a HIGH SCHOOL DRUG COUNSELOR in the late 70s-early 80s....in 1980, when I was almost 13, she scared the $#T out of me by telling me what hard drugs can do!!

So to answer your question...........NO!

Actually, I AM suffering from the "tree explosion" that happened over here in CT....rain, rain, and more rain...and then POOF!!!

Insta-Trees.

On top of THAT, it was roasting here a few days ago; we put on the AC...well, unless you know how to clean the air ducts out properly, it throws DIRT AND DUST BACK OUT when you put it on for the first time!!

My throat feels like it's coated with sandpaper, and I keep feeling like I'm gonna be sick....can't sleep, because of the sinus pain / pressure....and my stomach burns.

So yeah....GOOD TIMES!!
