Mt. Aire '86

Deano mentioned this show in an earlier thread. Was a wonderful show, in a great location. I believe the "Girl Can't Help It" video was filmed there also. Real party atmosphere with everyone in their swimtrunks (some people out of them ), major water gun fights in the stands. Just a lot of fun. Don't have too many like that anymore.

Deano, as I recall, the other artists appearing that day were Glass Tiger, Andy Taylor, and was it the Outfield or Honeymoon-suite. Do you recall? My friend insists it was HS, while I think it was The Outfield. I was young and had a real good time at the show if you know what I mean. I remember Journey vividly, just a little foggy on the others.

Man were those Mt. Aire festivals great. Really wish they would bring those back.

I was there at Mountainaire in '86, and it was The Outfield that played there. And yes, "Girl Can't Help It" video was filmed there.

Double Trouble, Andy Taylor, Honeymoon Suite, Outfield and Journey.

46,905 was the attendance. Journey flew in via helicopter, remember? I think herbie had to come in via a Huey, you know, those extra large super duper transport carriers.

Damn, they sounded good that night, but seeing Friga in his hairdressing smock didn't do it for me. However, I remember, Reach Out and Jailhouse Rock.

Be Good To Yourself stole the show though, without a doubt.

I wish they would bring back "Days On The Green" in Oakland. Those were some fun times then too.

Saw some great "Day on the Green" shows, was a little to young for the Journey one ('81 I think). Recall one with Whitesnake and Motley Crue and another good one was (maybe the last one) Metallica, Queensryche, and Faith No More. Really miss those festival shows.

What set aside the Mt. Aire shows for me was the location. It was very down to earth, you had to stay in some old ass motel or camp out near by. It kind of made for a real weekend of fun. Water fights in the stands, the gals were not worried about getting there make-up messed up or wet cloths, hair, etc. Just a real casual good time in the hot summer sun. And in the case of '86 when the sun when down, the lights came up for Journey. Great memories!

Dano, We would drive up the day of the show, and what a traffic jam it was! I remember it was a hot day, and when we got on Highway 49, some of the people who lived on 49 took their hoses and cooled people off. It was great.

jrnyjunky, I saw every Day On The Green that Journey did there. The ticket prices were so cheap, and I could take BART if I didn't want to drive. ( I was in my twenties back then, oh what fine times it was in the SF Bay Area ! Now I am a Bay Area transplant living in the Sacto Valley where it is cheaper to live. )

I too am a former Bay Area Boy now living in Citrus Heights (Sacto area). And you are right, for music, the only two places to be in the 80's were the SF Bay Area and LA. Definately take the Bay Area over LA anyday, though their are several "Hair Bands" that I do like.

So many good bands came out of the Bay Area in the 80's. I'm sure not all will agree but, you had Journey, Huey Lewis & the News, Night Ranger, Y&T, Metallica, Megadeth, Santana, Jefferson Starship, Doobie Bros., Faith No More, etc. I know there are more, just not coming to mind right now.

I remember there was a time when some band like this would be playing at a local club almost every other weekend. Either the Waldorf, The Stone, The Keystone, The Omni, Slims.......boy the good old days.

I'm thinking they're a summer band. Journey is just summer to me.
I don't know anything about the location; but it's sounding like it
was quite memorable. Wonder if they liked it as much as the fans playing there. Wow!

I went to a couple every summer from 77 to 82, my jr high & highschool days.
I lived in the Santa Cruz Mountains (Los Gatos). My best friend's older sister would take us. We would leave a the crack of dawn to get near the stage. We were allowed to bring coolers back then. What fun.

Apparently, He grew up in Texas playing with Steve Miller and they both ended up, years later, together in SF.

And, yes, you are right, he did have his hits while living in the bay area.

Mountain Aire's been threatened before by the band/Perry/JDK. I forsee that getting the full Escape show treatment and being disc III of those perry era releases....A frontiers show, who knows? I'd love to see a more collaborative effort though between Perry and the band on it.

I'd have loved to been around San Fran in the late 70's early 80's and seen some of those shows. So many great acts have come out of that area, most already named here....One of my customers here is the brother of a woman who was quite high up in Bill Graham Productions, she now runs her own production company with several others from BGP since Graham was killed...Every time I see John he's got another story about a time when he was hanging out with some band during some festival out there. Must have been a great time...
