If you had to choose one song . . . .

Postby SF-Dano » Wed Jun 07, 2006 7:43 am

If you knew someone who had never heard Journey and you wanted to play them one song that kind of sums up what Journey music is all about. What one song would that be. (Which one Journey song best represents their "style")

I would choose "Mother, Father" because it showcases their musicianship and Vocal abilities, its lyrics speak of hope (which is a Journey trademark IMO), and the song has classic feel to it.

Interested to hear what other single song you all think encompasses all that is Journey.

I'd probably go with "Separate Ways"...still my favourite Journey tune and the perfect show opener!

"Don't Stop Believin'".This song will always sum up the magic of Journey,IMO.
Then play them "Faithfully".

Don't Stop Believing is a good one also. Don't think it "packs the same punch" as Mother, Father though (IMO)

I know that I'm flying solo here, but it would have to be "Open Arms" for me. It's so daring and classy coming from a monster rock band.

Yes. It's the song that has lasted the longest on the radio and immediately identifiable as Journey. imo

Jeez, NIG. Didn't know you were so geeked on the title track of that record.

The Place In Your Heart for me. That's what I'd use to break in the uninitiated.
Even though I love The Time, it's too much of a departure and the casual fan wouldn't hear much like it again.

the Time is very good, but your right, doesn't have thet classic Journey sound. Think a lot of that is because of production-ERIC

I can never choose JUST ONE, so...
The Place In Your Heart Or Out Of Harms Way for Current lineup and
Escape or Edge Of The Blade For classic lineup

I usually try to go for the "Underdog" songs that people sit back and go
"Who is That?? That ROCKS"
"That's Journey"
"The Open Arms guys???"

lol

But it is the most different of all Journey songs. So if someone hears that song and likes it, they are likely to be disappointed by anything else the band has done.

Can't pick just one because they have two sounds
so two is what your getting from me. :)
I think I would choose "Why Can't this Night Go On Forever"
for the ballad side and then "Edge Of The Blade" for the rocker
side.

I don't know enough about the present Journey's sound so
I will keep my songs from the earlier days.

Love that dark lyrical message in The Time wich in the end is still all about hope and moving on: "Ya Gave up on counting days to count the days since you gave up."

Don't have much of a budget really I am an unpaid
domestic godess and average about one cd every 6 months.
I have heard a few tunes but not many.
I really liked Butterfly when I heard it but from what I have seen
from everyone here it's not their best tune.
When Agueri started in Journey I was really peeved and I'll
admit it.
I didn't want to give this new guy a chance.
Imposter Steve is what I called him back then.
I have softened to him though and I do think he is ok from what
I have heard.
I do plan on getting Generations as well as Arival and I am very
curious as to what Red13JoePa's name sounds like.
That being said I guess I am this forums dummy when it comes
to Journey after Trial By Fire.

I adore that song and it is in my top five faves for Journey.
I thought about that as a song to introduce to new fans
but thought it was a very different sounding tune for them
and not as familiar as Faithfully, DSB or Who's Crying Now.
Those songs had that Journey feel and sound where as
I think Precious Time has a whole different eloquence to it.

Not everybody. Like it ton (and have the scars of mockery to prove it), favorite ballad of the 3 on Generations. KTYLM is close, with it's kinda sorta bluesy feel too.

KTYLM.....wanna spell it out for the resident dummy JoePa?
Cool I have company in that you like Butterfly with me.
