Journey - Arrow Rock festival review

Hi all, here's my review of Journey's triumphant concert in Lichtenvoorde last friday.

After waiting nearly 20 years to see Journey live, words cannot express how happy I was to see those guys walk onto the stage. The place was packed and buzzing to see this great band live at last !

And what a show it was, even better than I had hoped for! After a rousing Faith in the heartland, the place went berserk when the keyboard-intro from Separate ways kicked in, everybody ( and I mean EVERYBODY ) clapped and sang along, I still have goosebumps just thinking about it.

The look on the faces of Steve, Neal and co said it all..they were absolutely delighted with the response from their european fans !

Amongst the many highlights were a terrific 'mother, father' , a note-perfect who's crying now ( what a guitar-solo !! ) and the highpoint for me was when steve thanked us for sticking by them all those years, and he promised they would return VERY SOON ! then jonathan played the intro to faithfully, and the next 4 minutes were just magical...everyone was singing along ( I had trouble hearing steve over the crowd !! ), and waving their arms, from the front row to the back of the tent...it was quite a sight ! when the song was over, neal came to the front of the stage and did the "we're not worthy" gesture ( you know what I mean )

when it was all over (sniff), we went outside to see Deep Purple playing, and ian Gillan said to the crowd :"did you just see journey ? weren't they AMAZING ??" To hear one of rock's greatest singers say those words was to me quite a suprise. and after an hour or so we got another suprise : as the famous notes of Smoke on the water played, Neal Schon came onto the stage to play the song with the band !!!

thanks guys for an unforgetable evening, and please come back soon !

Peter

Oh and by the way, John Waite played on the same stage a few hours earlier, and was quite good too , lots of babys tunes ! I was hoping for a bad english reunion, but I guess that was too much to hope for

That's great news. Sounds like everything is going well for the band. Maybe a new CD in a year or 2?

COOL 8) Maybe we will even see Journey here in Scandinavia??

And thanks for the review! Fantastic to hear the tale of how members of my two favourite bands in the whole wide world came together on stage. Am very sad that I didn't witness it :(

I know this is not the Purple forum, but I can only strongly recommend going to see them if they come to a town near you. They play as amazing as ever and their newest album Rapture of the Deep from 2005 is a slice of heaven, truly. Innovative, hard rocking and thought provoking.
