O/T The demise of Behind The Music

Ok...I used to love Behind the Music to see the story of VALID bands and how they got to where they were and why they went away, etc. Anyway, I was just channel surfing and came across VH1. I saw that there was one starting, so I waited, IT'S NICK LECHEY. (Ya know, that guy who got to nail Jessica Simpson). How the hell....I mean what the FUCK?????????
I think VH1 needs YET ANOTHER nice little email from me now. lol.
Sorry everyone...had to vent about this shit. Sorry state of music when this guy gets a Behind The Music. I'd rather watch the one on Tony Orlando.
PATHETIC.

Apparently they aired one on REO and I missed it. When was that one?

REO 1st aired in 2002 I believe. It was a WHILE ago.
I still haven't seen the one on Ratt. That and Pantera looked like the only interesting one's in a WHILE.

I saw both of those. The Ratt centered too much on Robin Crosby and his problems. They TOTALLY skipped over the Jizzy Pearl version, while I never expected a lot of time spent on that, they did not mention it at all.

The Pantera was good, but when they should the fottage of the night Dimebag was killed it was uncomfortable to watch. You never saw him get shot, but you did hear the shot from the cops shotgun that killed the attacker. It did nothing to soften my dislike of Phil, it's his fault that Pantera ceased, at least that my opinion.

Sounds like Ratt was a lot like the Journey (1st version) Behind the Music, centering on ONE person. lol. I know, I know...Cheap shot. Sorry.
I DID catch the tail end of Pantera..and it was rather uncomfortable to watch that footage of Dime. So I know where you're comin' from on that.

Unfortunately BTM has become completely formulaic and no longer a particularly useful source of information. I want to see the Pantera one but could care less about Ratt.

Yeah I agree with that. I had the horror of turning on VH1 Sunday and seeing a BTM on Mr. Jessica Simpson.

I think it really started going downhill when they did the Creed BTM. I thought they were a decent band, but deserve a BTM after JUST releasing their 2ND album they did not. The only "Newer" band that I agreed with was Goo Goo Dolls. Not the greatest episode but they at least had 4 albums out at the time. (2 that people didn't really know).
I think there should be a few stipulations on HOW you can get a BTM. But you're right JrnyMan, it's just basically a manufactured formula for the teenie bopper masses.
Hey....y'all also remember when Music channels played MUSIC?lol.

I started this topic on the "Rant!" board:

Here's my cribbed post:

"Excuse me...NICK LACHEY BTM?!"

Just saw a commercial....tonight 6/10 at 9PM (which is 45mins. from right now...CT Eastern time...)

How the HELL does HE RATE??

Enough said!"

Later on in the thread I said:

"Oh...THAT'S right...he's got a NEW CD coming out, right??"

Well, that would explain it. Didn't have to take a whole hour. Vh1...It's called a PROMO COMMERCIAL. Ya did it with Van Halen's Best of Both Worlds cd.
"Urge to kill...RISING." lol

Back in the day, yes, it WAS a valid show on the VH1 network.

I mean, think about it - that had REAL ARTISTS: Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar, Fleetwood Mac, and yes - JOURNEY.

Journey's BTM was a shocker - with how everything fell apart....but it did go thru how they started; who joined when, etc...they started out in the 70s, so there WAS a lot of info.

But now, yes - it's just an extended commercial for some new product.

Well hey - they have "condensed careers" to begin with...so, yeah - it's only APPROPRIATE that they have their own BTM an hour later....

I'll never get (the still thin then) Perry's short, spiky, side-parted hair out of my memory (*shudder*).
