Steve Perry This Is Your Calling

Postby froy » Wed Jun 21, 2006 1:26 pm

Its time to warm up those vocal cords as this JRNY train has just derailed.

Steve Augeri you did a nice job your cute we like you but its time to get back with Tall Stories we wish you well,

Steve Perry you can steamroll your way back into JRNY all you have to do is believe in yourself and JUST DO IT

If anyone is going to play around with computers to bring the sound in right in concert than Steve Perry should be the one they do it for,

All they have to do is double his voice and let the harmonies be handled by the rest of the band and you can save your voice and return to JRNY.

Steve Smith wake up from the dead get off your ass and lets get the classic JRNY lineup together right now.

Im am really sick and tired of my 2 favorite bands STYX and Journey fuking around with sub par lineups

STYX makes me sick
Journey Im a big fan of

Its time for a STYX and JRNY show with there classic lineups
That would be the tour of 2007 .

Do you guys really think perry would ever come back to journey, with all that has gone on? He reall has done a number on his pipes. I know he could not do a real tour. I honestly think he came up with the hip excuse. He could have gone on stage but he knew he couldnt sing all the songs. Makes sense to me. To me he doesnt even sound like the same guy.

Nah, he would have to lip synch to Augeri tracks and that would just be too demeaning.

Why? He could just lip-synch to the '81 video. I doubt Perry would perform Augeri era songs.

But, it ain't gonna happen anyways.

Let me tell you
I saw the Strange Journey Tour that Steve Did about 10 times
In the first month of the tour he sounded terrible
When I went to the Pantages Theater 3 months into the tour I was blown away, His voice warmed up after a few months of practice and he sounded killer.
Steve Perry right now would have to sing every other day for at least 2 - 3 months to warm up his cords
Then he can see exactly where he is at.

Yes he is hoarse and raspy but this needs to be worked out.
Lets face it he has not sang in 10 years.

Part of his problem is confidence he has lost his.

He on his own needs to exercise his voice by using it 3-4 times a week
Practice and confidence is all he needs and he could find his way back to JRNY.

You know it is not a matter of whether or not Steve Perry can sing as to why he is not on tour. You don't need to have much of a voice to get up on stage anymore. Ever think that Perry's got some other issues? Anyone else want to spend months alone in hotel rooms watching Oprah and Fox News at the age of 57?

Of course it isn't. If you knew Dean at all you couldn't possibly think that.

Furthermore, if Steve Perry wanted to sing he could get his voice back in shape for it. Could he tour the way the band wants to tour? Probably not. Would he sound the same way he did in the '80s? No, but them I would rather have him sounding like he did on FTLOSM and TBF.

Augeri obviously can't do it either and he lost whatever he had a lot faster than Perry did. But it's OK for Augeri's voice to rasp, squawk and break. Perry on the other hand gets bashed and slammed for just his voice changing to a lower range on here and BT daily. Sure Journey used taped backing vocals when Perry was with them, everyone knows that. But every note and lyric that came out of Perry's mouth went to the audience even if it wasn't always studio perfect. It may not have went on the live albums, I don't know about that. If Perry were to decide to try and do another concert I guarantee you he wouldn't fake it. If he didn't think he could perform up to his own standards he just wouldn't do it. He's said in interviews that he doesn't do it because he doesn't know if he can do it to his satisfaction. That's called integrity which is something this band seems to need a little of these days.

As for this shit about his not having hip surgery, that's just mean spirited BS. Too many people know and have said it was real(including Steve Smith and Jon Cain). Did he have other issues? Undoubtedly. Was his voice one of them? Probably. I think HOTS may have hit on something when she suggested that they may have wanted him to do something like what they've got Augeri doing now so that he could tour. It wouldn't surprise me(afterall the suggested that he just sit on a stool and sing when he was in pain). It also wouldn't surprise me if he refused. He said in an interview with Joe Benson that he doesn't want to be a parody of himself, and he sure wouldn't want the band to be a parody of Journey.

If he does decide to sing, I for one don't want him to do it with Journey.

Agree with you there. If he ever puts out a CD, I doubt there would be any kind of extensive tour.

For 40 dates a year whats the problem?
His ego would getting padded alone the way
Look at THE WHO going for 80 dates I think
Perry has confidence issues if he can get over it he could return.

There wouldn't have to be. He could do just a few widely spaced dates across the country, a pay(or better yet, free) per view and a live DVD to follow.

I agree with Froy that he has confidence issues. I think he could overcome them though.

No one knows, but it's clear there is one. Trust me, touring is not fun beyond the age of 30 or so. Most 57 year olds are playing golf and spoiling their grandchildren. People have this perception of Steve Perry as being some Peter Pan-like dude, and he's not. If you're a singer, and you're touring, and you find yourself in a hotel in Shreveport LA in August, and you can't go out because you can't talk to people to save your voice, and you've got to pump yourself full of medicine to make it through the night's show, and your bandmates are sitting at the pool or hanging out in the hotel bar, it really sucks. So why on earth, unless you needed the money, would anyone want to do that at his age? And since he obviously doesn't need the money, why would he?

Go back and read his interviews at Fan Asylum. He said he WAS NOT going back to Journey and he also stated he did not want to tour like he use to.
