Please be completely honest, no BS please!

My question for those of you who are in your own mind sure that Steve Augeri is lip-syncing, or those of you who at least think that it's probably true please answer this...

Have you always disliked Steve augeri or at least already disliked him before these claims were ever made?

Also, do you hate the idea that Journey have continued on without Steve Perry as the lead vocalist?

Please answer those questions being totally truthfull, and please answer them here on this page!

I loved Augeri until last December when I found out and was positive. The anger grew daily, until I had no other choice.

No, I am not upset they continued on without Perry.

No offense, but are you serious? Have you looked at the line of believers he has? Actually your first question would be the rusult of your second question...they can't bare the fact that he's never coming back and the shoes have been overfilled..it's right here on this board, you can see it clear as day. Pay close attention, cause when RD gets weary and starts acting like he's gonna retreat they encourage him to move forward...question is, how manys gonna be there when he gets hung out to dry? He's risking not only his future but that of his childs too...very selfish act if you ask me...but that's Deano...he's on a mission.

Penny what are you watching?

Every day, more and more people believe this is happening. I am sorry you don't like that, and that is your prerogative.

I have NEVER been a Perry Loon, so your argument is already trashed.

I am also above you in every possible way, so I won't bother posting to yyou anylonger either. Sorry.

If that's the case, then I wouldn't blame you for being upset if you truly believe Augeri is lip-synching. However, this seems more like a crusade for the sake of crusading than it does someone just wanting to get down to the truth.

No, I like for the most part Arrival, and bits of both Red 13 and Generations. I've seen Journey a few times since 1998. I don't dislike Augeri or his voice. I dislike what Journey decided to do as a band.

Journey/Survivor wrote:Also, do you hate the idea that Journey have continued on without Steve Perry as the lead vocalist?

Nope, as with most bands of that era (like Styx and Foreigner) sometimes you make choices - right or wrong - to move on. We as fans are not there day to day, so we don't know all the behind the scenes. I know a lot of the Styx stuff, but then again, I've met and interviewed the guys. That is a band that had tension long before 1999, and it was bound to come to a head at some point. So it did.

I think it is sad that they've pushed SA to the point where they've had to do what they did, and while I disagree with it as a musician who plays live, I can see why they may have considered doing it. I don't live in their shoes and don't know what it would be like to have to face cancelling a tour worth hundreds of thousands or possibly millions of dollars.

I liked Augeri, and I was happy the rest of the band decided to carry on the legacy and that they had found someone who seemingly was able to properly sing the old songs. I loved Arrival and Red 13, and much of Generations and I embraced all the new material they put out with Augeri. I'm only 24, I never got to see the Perry incarnation, so Journey was about the songs and about the sound, both of which never went away no matter who was singing.

I don't know why you want to know this. All of this screaming that some people are doing on here about this being some kind of Perry fan generated conspiracy  is just a weak attempt to divert people from the real issue. I'll answer though.

Journey/Survivor wrote:Have you always disliked Steve augeri or at least already disliked him before these claims were ever made?

I had nothing against him personally. I just thought he made an unwise decision in trying to replace an irreplaceable voice.

Also, do you hate the idea that Journey have continued on without Steve Perry as the lead vocalist?

I think the word hate is a bit too strong but I've certainly made it no secret that I thought they should have retired the Journey name with the dignity of the legacy intact. That's why I'm pissed about what they're doing now. They're demeaning the name Journey more than I thought they already had.

I'm not saying Augeri was never a good singer, or that they didn't do any good music. He was good, but not great enough to replace Perry. Arrival and Generations both have some very good music on them. (And I would never have been able to say that if I hadn't met Dean. He made me listen and I liked what I heard) I really think they would have been more successful if they had used another name. They just never could live up to the expectations of Journey with the industry or the majority of the original Journey fanbase.

Now if someone wants be deluded enough to think that my being a staunch Perry fan somehow excuses what the band is doing now, or even makes it untrue, have at it.

Never disliked Steve Augeri,I think he did the best he could and I have respected him at least for the courage to fill in the oversized Perry shoes.
I don't know about now...After hearing what he has been doing,I feel dissapointed.
I would really like to know the reasons why he accepted such a disgraceful compromise.
Maybe he had to stay in the band due to a strict contract and forced to carry on with a farce...But that still doesn't take away the shame.

As for Journey continuing without Perry...
Sometimes I think it would have been better for them to stop, leave the Journey thing behind and do something else instead, like Bad English.
Then sometimes I think they loved Journey just as much as Steve Perry did.The band was their "child" too.
Oh,and sometimes I just don't care.I just love the Music- that comes first.IMHO.

Anyone in any band is replaceable. Take Bruce Dickinson out of Iron Maiden and Iron Maiden continue on. Remove Ace Frehley from KISS and put someone like Bruce Kulick in his place - guess what? KISS continue on. No one is bigger than the band and Perry was no exception.

They made some hits with Perry that got them radio airplay and suddenly this jazz/rock fusion band were doing radio friendly soppy ballads and became a housewives favourite. If Perry had never joined Journey would he have become a star through his own work? Probably not. We could also ask ourselves if, without Perry, Journey would have remained in their groove of jazz/rock fusion or whether they would have gravitated towards the sound they have now? Journey launched Perry not the other way around. If memory serves me right wasnt Perry a struggling artist still sending out tapes to record labels in the hope of someone picking him up? Journey had a record label and already had albums out. Schon had the credability already with his time in Santana as a wonderkid guitarist so his future would be assured in any project he undertook. That vessel was Journey with whom he was one of the founder members.

As good a singer as Steve Perry was and as much as his vocals became the signiture sound of the band at that time, he was not irreplaceable. Why should Journey have had to change the band name just cos Perry left of his own accord?. Journey was going long before Perry entered the frey. And whether the Perry die hards like it or not, the Journey name continues at present with a new singer. The current situation regards the lip synch "scandal" makes not a jot of difference to the fact that the band decided to continue on and make new music. With Augeri, the band were able to move on and record probably their best album with Arrival. Generations isnt as good but it does boast probably their finest composition in my humble opinion with Faith In The Heartland.

I'm a fan of all eras of Journey. Arrival stands up there with anything they have ever done - period.

But yes, I stand on the side that lip synching has been occurring at least since the Generations tour. May have happened intermitently before that, but it wasn't often.

I am absolutely a fan of Steve Augeri and what he has done for Journey. Recent events excluded of course. I also think people who think Steve Perry could sing these songs today at his age are loons.

I love Steve Perry's singing, believe me!!!

As I have said befor Steve Perry is an extremely close second on my list of favorite singers of all time!

I have been a Journey and Steve Perry fan for over 25 years now.
I of course own every album that Steve Perry has ever released, and I hope that in the near future I can get a copy of his "Alien Project" album that was never officially released. I also have the Steve Perry CD's singles that had previously unreleased songs on them.

As I have also said before I respect greatly that Steve Perry has done a great deel for charity! I used to donate a lttle bit of money to some of the charities that he was donating to.

Overall I think Steve Perry is a nice person and he seems to be nice to his fans who are lucky enough to meet him.

I am a bigger fan of an in his prime Steve Perry than I am of Steve Augeri.

I have gotten in heated arguments with people who rip on Steve Perry.

But with all of that said...

Journey have every right to continue on without Steve Perry!

It was never Steve Perry's band, it is truly Neal Schon's band.
There was a Journey before Steve Perry and there is a Journey after Steve Perry.

It was kind of ridiculous and arrogant of Perry to think that Journey should no longer exist without him!

As great as I know Steve Perry's singing is/was IMO the greatest talent in the band has always been Neal Schon.
And for that matter Steve Smith, Jonathan Cain, Deen Castronovo, Gregg Rolie and Aynsley Dunbar are as talented as Perry. And Ross Valory is a great bass player too.

I think that Steve Augeri is a great singer, and I am very greatfull that Journey have him to be able to continue on!

For whatever reason Steve Perry and the other members of Journey just couldn't get along. I wish they had been able to get along, but they don't.

Also from what I have heard I don't know if Steve Perry has much left as a singer anymore? Even though I think that a young Steve Perry was a better singer than Steve Augeri, I think that in 2006 Steve Augeri probably has a little more left than Steve Perry does?

And Steve Perry was an all out tirent when it came to the Raised On Radio album. He bossed around Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain, and he insited that Ross Valory be replaced, and he tried to relagate the greatest drummer in the world, Steve Smith, to being a drum machine.

I'm not saying this about you personally, but I think a lot of Steve Perry's fans just can't let go of the fact that Perry is no longer in Journey, and therefore they are taking it out on Steve Augeri and the rest of Journey.

Journey/Survivor,

I'm trying really hard to keep this from being another redundant Perry vs Augeri thing. Been there, done that. I answered your question as honestly as I could. That's all I intended to do. I don't want to expound on it.

You are entitled to your feelings but what I've been wondering during the last few minutes that I've been perusing this board is this:

Do the Augeri fans that have been assaulting this board recently really still believe this is not happening or do they just not care?

I'm a fan and I do care that it is happening. Also think that Perry fans are salivating over this, despite the fact that Augeri has done a very good job up until now.

I just like "Journey" whoever is in the band. If Augeri is done - fine. Get someone else. Does Steve Perry want to come back and try these songs - cool. (yeah right). Hugo? Chaflant?

This music is what I want to hear. Football teams cut players all the time. Just let the Journey continue.

So it's just Augeri fans that have been assaulting? That's priceless  It's NOT happening, only thing still happening is libel and slander...you might get tired of hearing it but it's true. Someone's personal opinion..even if it's the Pope's..doesn't make it true just because they believe it or try to force others to believe it. There has been no proof..and I'm sorry Deano..as much as you want your precious bootlegs to be your defense, they aren't solid evidence..so keep reaching.

I really wasn't talking about you arrivalrules. I know you've been honest about it all. I guess I should have been more specific but I didn't want to seem as if I was calling anyone out.

I don't think the remark I quoted is appropriate though. I've stated over and over that I don't want Perry back with Journey. I know he can't do the songs the way he originally did them and I don't expect him to. No one can do them the way he did, and no one should be expected to.

I'm certainly not salivating over what's been done to Augeri. I'm sure he's a nice person and he did the best he could. Other than the fans he's the victim in this. I'm just on here now to try and keep this from becoming a Perry vs Augeri thing. I stayed away from this on here for that very reason(and I told Dean that in a pm in case you doubt me) until I saw that some people were determined to bring Perry and his fans into this by whatever means they could conjure up. That's just not right. Neither he nor we had a thing to do with it.

I didn't think that you were ohsherrie. Hey, it's a message baord and it's all one way conversations and posting. We all are here because we've been a fan of this band in one or multiple eras. Your opinions and posts are completely fine with me.

Think I'm going to spin Departure and follow up with Arrival and remember why I liked the music in the first place. :D

Actually I would love it if EVERYONE would stop the whole Steve Perry VS Steve Augeri war that has been going on both here and on Back Talk!

I was in no way trying to make this a Perry VS Augeri thing, it's just that I feel strongly that some people (and I am not reffering to you personally) are making these accusations because of a personal dislike for Steve Augeri.

Like someone else said above, I am a Journey fan no matter who the singer is, and I love the singing of both Perry and Augeri!

As for your question at the end of your comment, and keeping in mind that I am a fan of both Perry and Augeri, I personally strongly doubt that Augeri is lip-syncing. Maybe he MIGHT have been singing along with some guide vocals, MAYBE, but if so I doubt that it is anything that any other singer who is in or approaching his 50's wouldn't do in the same situation.

I'm trying to keep things civil with Rockn' Deano, and I am not overly angry to tell you the truth. But I still have serious doubts that Deano has ever truly been a Journey fan!

A true fan would not be on a mission to bring down the band that he claimed to have been a fan of!

Deano says that the Rolling Stones are worse than Journey for lip-syncing. If he believes that then why isn't he on a mission to bring them down?

No, he has an aggenda against Steve Augeri and Journey, as do many of the people who are making these accusations!

If Journey are really lip-syncing then I won't be happy about that. But there is no way in hell that it make me stop being a fan of the band!

If I had been the person who supposedly "discovered" that Journey are "lip-syncing" I would not have gone public with it. Maybe I would have notified the band that I knew what they were doing and that I expect them to stop it immediately, but I would not have been on a mission to destroy the band that I love!

That is why I want to make clear that I do NOT believe that Rockn' Deano was ever truly a Journey fan.

Anyway, Ohsherrie, I am not trying to pick on you in anyway, so I hope you don't think that I was!!! :)
