A couple of comments..

He sounds more like Augeri than Perry (a bit of a rasp).

He nails the song. Unbelievable that he pulled that off, let alone playing the drums all the while. Even the very last vocal part

Why in the world isn't he the lead singer??????? I know he said he didn't want to be, but I think that is just a cover up to keep tensions down in the band. I am sure he is thinking "Let me "Phil Collins" this thing. I can nail these songs everytime."

I could get into Journey again with this guy singing - no problem at all.

Simply fantastic.

Being a HUGE Journey fan, I have attended most of their concerts. It was strange seeing them as an opening band without an encore. Last year Jonathan Cain did an encore and then had emergency surgery. I missed hearing some of my old favorites "Feeling that Way and Anytime" and of-course "Open Arms". I'm sorry but Steve's voice is not getting any better and I think just because he fits the jacket doesn't mean he can replace Steve Perry. He has a great voice for his own style, not the original. However, the drummer, Deen was a pleasant surprise in that he sounded a lot more like Steve Perry than any other I had heard. Although I would love to see ALL the originals back together, I will always be a fan and come to the shows! Much luck on the tour. STILL THEY RIDE!!

Entirely disappointed. I have now seen the boys 5 times and last night they sounded like a cover band. The only highlight was Dean...he is amazing. By the way...of course the bass was way too loud..it had to drown out the the voices of Steve and Joe Elliot because they just do not have it anymore. Also...terrible song selections by both bands.

DEEN, DEEN, DEEN!!! I was sooo happy that he got a chance to shine tonight. He blows me away with that voice! I agree with the other review, you could barely understand the words of the songs, but you've got to love being there. I really wish the guys would let Deen take a crack at the "big" songs, "separate ways, faithfully, etc" I'm absolutely sure he could pull it off!! I can't wait to see them again!!

This was my second time seeing the boys and I was not dissapointed, I just wish they played longer. Deen, wow, no words can describe how amazing he is, 4 songs - Keep On Runnin, Still They Ride, Mother Father and Where Were You. Although I'm a huge fan of Steve, he sounded a little off tonite and Deen had to spot him a little but that's alright. I waited almost a year for this and I was satisfied. Great job boys!

You're right, the performance is fantastic. However, even though the fans, to one degree or another, accepted Augeri as their lead singer, I don't think they'd accept yet another lead singer.

I don't know...

Every time they hear Deen sing, they are blown away.

If I could accept it, perhaps anyone can.

True. I was skeptical when I first heard that Augeri was in the band. I saw them for the first time with him in November '98 and was blown away.

Management refuses to turn his mic up...never have. I think they're afraid the fans will realize he has a much better voice than Augeri. While he did a good job on that song it is nothing compared to Perry's vocals on the 81 DVD. THAT was quite simply a vocal masterpiece.

You should hear Castronovo cover Suzanne.

no, he doesn't, but the media still seems to have that idea...

I THINK not know, but think, that the reason it's ok for Deen to sound like Perry, is because he wasnt' replacing outright, Perry. That's what I get out of why people accept him singing. Hell at one time I could sing Perry's stuff. But I'm not in jounior high school anymore. Even if it feels like it sometimes.

I have never been a fan of Augeri's. As a man, I am sure he is delightful.

I don't care for his voice, except for his lower range on Kiss Me Softly. Remember me isn't bad, either.

However, he never really won me over. I don't even enjoy the 2001 dvd because I don't like him as a leader. Too "soft" for me. I don't know, just can't put my finger on it.

Neal's solo in that 2001 concert is one of my all time favorites he has done.

Deen, on the other hand, he just grabs me. Don't know why, so don't ask me. He just does. Oh, and I really enjoy HIS VOICE.

Heck of a drummer as well.

I have never thought Augeri looked or sounded even remotely close to Perry. I like Perry's voice. I like to hear the Journey classic songs sung by a voice like Perry's that can actually hit those high notes. Deen's is the closest to Perry's that I've heard.

I've tried listening to Journey w/Augeri since this whole controversy started so that I could form some sort of opinion, and it just doesn't appeal to me. I don't know if it's the songs, the singer, or what, but I just don't care for their recent music that I've listened to.

No, I didn't mean Perry fans think Augeri actually LOOKS like Perry, but they seem to hate the band for "trying to" get someone who would look/sound like Perry. That's what I don't get, because they get mad at the band for trying to replace Perry, but then they're happy when the band brings someone else in who sounds even more like him?

I think whocares is right... it's "less offensive" because Deen replaces Augeri instead of Perry.

Anyone who sings Perry era songs will be compared to Perry.

What voice, even today, do you hear on the radio?
What voice made those songs famous?


Ask any average music fan on the street who Steve Perry is... "Oh, he is the singer for Journey".

Ask the same person who Steve Augeri is, and you will get "...Who???".

Perry put Journey on the map. Journey put Perry on the map. Augeri hasn't arrived yet in music mainstream. I don't care how long he has been with them, I don't care if this isn't the 80's and the music isn't relavent today, I don't care what anyone says... Steve Perry is synonomous with Journey, and Journey with Steve Perry.

Okay, Deen hit every note on Suzanne as well.

This guy is so talented.

Put the drums in the middle of the stage and let him have it all!!!!!!!

Augeri/Castronovo/whoever could only "make it" on their own talent if people actually heard their music. When Hagar took over Van Halen, it was at the height of the band's popularity and so everyone, not just dedicated Van Halen fans, heard the songs on 5150. No one outside the fanbase has heard Arrival or Generations, and unless that happened, neither of them are going to 'make it" outside of their ability to sing (or mime ) classic Perry-era tunes.

It's unfortunate...I'm only 24 and I can't wrap my head around this idea, but after watching Elton John, the Stones, Journey, and others release their best albums in decades while the public heaves a collective yawn (I mean honestly, did you hear Elton's Peachtree Road? Probably not), I have to ask: At what age do old people (meaning anyone older than me) stop caring about new music and decide they just want to hear the same 10 songs over and over again?

You know, they could just tour as a 4 piece with Deen on lead vocals and drums. Make more money that way, & not have to bring multitrack recorders on the road with them. If folks get bored without a singer out front, Ross could just use his squirt bottle alot more.

That would be great, but they would still have bring the multitrack recorders because Deen won't be available for background vocals. Or Augeri could do background, tamborine, rhythm guitar and ass-shaking for the ladies.
