It's been asked before, but as I was listening to the Live Escape CD, I got to thinking...

As a rule, I enjoy studio music more than live music. Wheel In The Sky and Any Way You Want It are prime examples of why. Live, they speed the tempo up too much and I believe take away from the essence of the songs.

In prticular, I have an '83 boot where everything was so sped up that I couldn't even enjoy the music. I understand them wanting to keep things rocking and try to fit in more songs, but this was rediculous. It was like they were in a hurry to get off the stage.

There is an old Any Way You Want It video on VH1 classics that shows the best live version of the song I have ever heard. I love the older concerts where they kept the tempo down to what it was on the album.

So, if I was to choose, I choose Studio over Live.

Live for me, every time. If they change up the tempo, I'm ok with that. It makes it interesting. If I can't stand to listen to it the same every time, you can imagine how crazy it would make the musicians to play it like that at every show. And God knows they did a ridiculous amount of shows back then.

Studio or Live? Hm,tough question.I like both,I guess it depends on my mood or on what are the circumstances...
Of course I would prefer to be in the audience and feel the energy of a live show instead of being home and listening to the CD!
But if we are talking about what do I enjoy listening to,I guess I would choose...lol,I can't!

A studio album is a polished product and it's really cool to hear all the work behind the songs.
Journey's songs are true studio gems and it's a pleasure to hear them as they were recorded at the time.
However,when I pop in Captured or that amazing Chicago show from 1979 it feels great - the live sound has a texture of its own...It's energy,inspiration,freshness,change -you name it.
I don't mind if they speed up the tempo,that just pumps up the adrenalin.
And that goes with every live CD I listen to.Sure,Journey has some good live albums and then there are some not so good.
Right now,I can't even think about Journey as I am totally hooked on Bryan Adams' live concert in Lisbon."OMG!" is all I can say about it....

So....Damn,still can't choose! Ask me tomorrow,knox.

Studio all the way. The only song I liked the live version of better than studio was Stone In Love.

I guess that's why the Tapegate business really doesn't matter to me.
