Though I know this will sit on the bottom of the drama
for the time being I just gotta know every one's thoughts
on this song......
Edge Of The Blade
Although I know this song has been brought to the
forum light before I feel the need to discuss it again.
This song completely owns my backside and bends me forward evertime!
I ain't to shy to say it either.

Tragchk...AWESOME post. I was thinking the same thing when I was listening to it the other day. But I DO think that this is one of the songs that's completely live 'cause the 4 boots I have are all different. (Nothing other to compare them to) And Deen sings on those high parts on 2 of em. Steve STRUGGLES HARD on the other 2. I like the one that Deano sent me a few weeks ago the best outta this line-up. Favorite overall version is the one I have from '83 with a KICK ASS Neal solo at the end. Took me 2 weeks straight to learn it on guitar.lol
To answer the initial question....LOVE this song. One of my favorites.

You're learning Neal solos? That's awesome.
That's some good vocabulary to have

no, correction, this wins for best post this young summer in the states.
It's a great song, and I've got Jorn's version of the song, pretty damned good. I got it the first time Andrew recommended it a while ago.
The "B-side" of Frontiers is VERY VERY underrated.

I dare say, not a bad song on the CD. All hits on the first side and no filler on the second.

Edge Of The Blade is just one of those songs.
You know like if it's playing get the hell outta my way.
My children know to never ask me for a thing when they
hear this one playing.

Yup...lemme tell ya...Edge Of The Blade (Live '83) AIN'T easy. lol.
Took me about 10 minutes to figure out "Who's Cryin' Now" and "Separate Ways". Then again....they're MUCH easier solos.
The hardest times I've had with Neal's solos are "EOTB", "Escape" (My 2 favorites, mind you.lol) and Trial By Fire.

That's great man. I always liked the shredding in "Mother Father", the rhythmic grouping is different, and sounds so damn explosive.

I found playing the piano part on guitar for "Mother Father" was a LOT easier than playing the guitar part. For any other guitar players that think I'm weird....well...YOU'RE RIGHT!!! lol

I can only agree wholeheartedly

The album got me into the band in the first place. And "Edge of the Blade" is blinding. I think its pretty unique for Journey with its relative aggressiveness. Otherwise my two favourites off the album are "Seperate Ways" which is power rock at its peak. And "Send Her My Love", which has that ability to translate into your own life.
And I can also only agree with the irony in the EOTB lyrics pointed out by Tragchk.
