From the BT Forum....look what JUST SURFACED - a Boston.org member posted a conversation he had with Mr. Joe Benson himself...."last 10 Months" or so, eh?

If this is anywhere near the truth, then perhaps....nope...not gonna say it!

Personally, I'd rather hear him solo, than with the group again.

He himself asked that the band not go on and "soil" the name. Unfortuantely, they went on, and now the name is perhaps forever soiled.

Whatever he's up to, I'm happy for him. Which is more than I can say for a certain few others.

Couldn't agree more! 8) I don't want him back w/Journey, either.

I rather liked his '94 solo tour band, young, energetic, and basically they could play all the back-up he needed to sing the Journey stuff. What more does one need?

Where I live Journey has long been very supported as far as selling out, or near sell outs. Even the newer line-up. I dare say, that IF Perry wanted to and could sing for a whole tour, then he could sell out 15,000 seat arenas and amphitheaters too. I think he doesnt need to tour anymore financially speaking, but I'd love an occasionaly new CD or even a song or two every once in a while from him, where he sings lead, not background for other people.

I totally understand the whole "touring" thing....Jeremey said it best: that Steve is not a young man anymore; touring is very demanding; etc. etc.

I would just love to hear another CD, and that's it - I'm not expecting a tour or anything else....believe me, the process of recording a CD is exhausting!

BUT:

If he pulled a "Madonna-type" tour scenario - where people would have to come to HIM for only 3 or 4 shows - NY, LA, & Chicago come to mind:

MAKE WAY FOR THE STAMPEDE!! LOL

as long as he doesn't make a crappy movie about his tour, like she did years back. I agree.

I know it's hard being a recording musician, I've got a studio in my house and I'm a singer, so I know what you are talking about.

I'd most likely do waht i could to be there even if he did a one off show, anywhere. Just for the curiosity alone.

Any band of note has a history of fame and sometimes infamy. Journey certainly is living up to these prospects. If you think about it, a reunion would be just that much more of a happening now. I have no doubt that the chemistry would be right there and it would be proven that Perry is what's been missing these past 8-10 years.

It's not like murder has been committed, or one of the guys who made the magic has passed on, God forbid. It's a band and this is just what bands do, imo.

If he is going to sing at all, I would rather he did it with Journey. I still think that they complete each other.

lol! r u kidding? that would be a nightmare. destiny fulfilled. they'd be tangling on the stage
fighting to the death. lips bruised. eyes black. no way. i wouldn't want to see it cause if they got on stage and were smiling, patting each other on the back and saying how swell it is to see the other guy i'd want my money back. this is not a fairytale or a play; this is life and these guys do not get along and now i don't think will ever share a stage together. forget the lip synching this would over shadow it and put it in the freakazoid category.

I have always felt that with a band, it's all about the music. They don't have to sleep together to make beautiful music.

well that may be true but i don't think they'd eat breakfast or lunch or dinner together either.
it is about the music and you should have some sort of relationship with the other band members; i think that they did but now i think that they don't. it's over. i don't think steve p would want to play with the other members if it is determined that there was lippin going on; he'd be kind of furious. he doesn't need to ride on their coat tails.

Imo, he's the only one that can save their sorry ass's. They desperately need focus and control. Even if Deen took over as frontman, they would still lack the focus and control, not to mention the demand for perfection, that Perry brought to the band.

The only person I can see touring with Perry would be Smitty. Even he had the foresight to see that it wouldn't be a good thing to have to tour continuously. His loyalty is with Perry, even if Perry "fired" him in 85/86. I could see those two doing something together as far as recording goes. Touring, not a chance.

Perry stuck up for Schon when he got hit in the head with a beer bottle, but by the end of the ROR tour, they said they hated each other. I'm sure a lot of things weent through Perry's head when it came time to tour for TBF. Would I have liked to have heard some of the new (at the time) material live? hell yes, who wouldn't? But we know it ain't ever gonna happen so...

While reading that I remembered some things he said in the recent past...

Approximate quotes -- "It would need 3 or 4 months to get back in shape" (Perry talking about his voice last October),

"I'm doing scales everyday,to see what's left" (the meeting with Perryville),

and then saying something about wanting to get his "feet wet" on Mitch Lafon's interview(or was it the ClassicRockRevisited one?not sure) ...

And now this.Interesting.

I would definately like to hear him sing again.Solo.

Hope you had a peaceful vacation, Abita. You won't get much of that around here.

While this is a nice thought, believe me....it's totally different when you're up there front-and-center, KNOWING that the person to your left or right is NOT happy with you, for whatever reason....you can FEEL the "daggers"....

There's enough to be concerned about - like doing your job to the best of your ability.

I'd bet my last penny he can't hit the high notes any more though. I'm not slagging him.... simply pointing out the likely situation....

Probably not the very high ones, but that's never been the best of his voice for me. I like the lower range soulful sound.

I'd love to hear some new stuff from him. Not sure I would want him permanently back with Journey though. It would be nice for those of us who are less fortunate and never were able to see them back in the early 80s to be able to see them together just once.

Oh, please, what a completely false statement. His 'loyalty' is with Perry? Is that why he gave Deen advice right from the start, and sat in the audience for their debut performance with Augeri, cheering the band on?

His 'loyalty' is the same as Gregg's....to own happyness. He is happier doing his own thing with his Jazz band then he would be performing with Journey. That is the impression I have had in every interview since TBF...He was in it for the 'reunion'...Not loyalty towards one person or another.

You're right. He was only interested in rejoining Journey if the classic lineup was kept intact. That goes to show you his character, since he could easily have been bitter towards Perry for kicking him out of the group during the ROR sessions.

...and the plot thickens.

Here's what he had to say right after the White Sox World Series.

Quote:

"I do miss singing, period. These guys - you don't know what these guys have done for me, emotionally. I think they're gonna get, y'know, my life back together in some ways through Baseball...maybe start singin' again, y'know - it's been awhile."

I don't think most people who really want Perry to sing again, want him back in Journey either. I don't think he'd want to even for a ton of money, after this fiasco of having people going at each other over what may or may not be irrefutable proof, in some peoples eyes. I dont' believe the only info he gets is from the folks at Asylum, I'm not saying he lurks or reads everything, but I think he knows more than he lets on. He knows people want to hear him again, and he still has enough of an ego to want to put something out and say, WOW, I'm on the radio again.

yeah but if it's a money thing and an ego thing they'd get both by bringing him back ...one last tour for the band and him and maybe some new songs what a way to end the 30 year party..nothing but packed venues without having to tour with anyone else.
