I got a quarter of the way thru this....was so disgusted, I had to shut it off.

If I sang with my mouth glued to an OVERSIZED mic like this, rest assured you'd hear
NOTHING BUT DISTORTION!!!

But "Mr. MagicVoice" sounds oh-so-crystal-clear:

Fron one vocalist to another...I agree, but many untrained fans are ok with this kind of performance, NOTHING WE CAN DO, journey is now tainted forever!

If he was indeed lipping it in that clip, they could have picked a better sounding vocal track. Sounds a little off there quite a few times. For that matter, Neal's guitar didn't sound quite right, either.

That song is the hardest one to figure. Some is lipped off the cd, some from another track laying around, and about 15 secs live. Who cares if Neal is off, that isn't the concern.

There is NO way you can tell what city they were in! You cannot prove it! Where is the evidence! All lies. All innuendo!

LOL

Just pointing it out...I saw that clip several times on VH1 Classic and wondered why the heck they'd pick that one, considering the vocals and guitar were both out of tune several times.

Thanks for your reply, DV 8)

Let me ask you this, RE: his "mic choice":

First of all, I really don't know if this is an indoor or outdoor concert....my concern is that he's using a mic "windscreen" foamcover during an indoor concert....um, they're made for the OUTdoors, right - to block the sound of the wind out of the mic?

WHY would someone use it INDOORS - if that's indeed where he is??

Unless it's, well......y'know......the obvious........

Not a mic expert here but unless he's aware of the cameras and trying to hide something from them, does it make sense that he'd use that to cover something up when most of the audience wouldn't be close enough to notice much of anything anyway even without the windscreen?

When the mic is live, the vocals do get distorted since his lips are right up to the freakin' screen. It's audible. You cannot hit clear high notes mashing a mic up to your mouth like that.

Now, it seems to me he could be lipping from 4:12 to 4:18. On the "night" of tonight, he holds the mic back a little. The vocals are not only crystal clear, but he's not even remotely breathing like he just held a high note.

Listen to 4:34 where Steve starts ad libbing. His voice cracks like a bad foundation on a house - 4:38 is a good example. How can you go from nailing the high note at 4:18 to this? And he can't hit a high note on "Something to believe in" around 4:45 which has crazy distortion - he's practically speaking it.

Then he nails the high notes from 4:46 to 4:51.

It just doesn't add up.

Look at what I just posted - do you not hear the differences? You can't be that good AND that off in the same song performance. This ain't American Idol.

No, this is not the TRAG board - it's the (what's-left-of) Journey Board.

It really has come down to one thing for me. The band not responding. It's too obvious.

Augeri1, I think you need to step back for a second and give some of us the benefit of the doubt. You have disregarded every shred of evidence. I guess that's ok. You hear what you want to hear.

But please at least give a little ground on the no comment issue. You can put any number of labels on how big or small this is, but at least admit is big enough that no one of intelligence can honestly understand why they have not said something. It just reeks. And to me, it seals the verdict. It truly does. Journey is smart enough to know that rumors alone can hurt them. It only makes things worse not to respond.

Joe Elliot's comments were so weak in terms of support. That said a lot to me as well. When you look at all this, I don't think it's fair for you to be so dismissive. You seem intelligent, otherwise. Inside, don;t you wish they would just say something to end all of this.

But they can't. I know they can't. You know they can't. All they can hope for is that this dies down. But my respect for the band I once worshipped is gone. That really sucks.

I'm not an idiot. I don't hate Augeri. I don't want it to be true. I don't have an agenda. I promise.

at the end, when he "sings" tonight, right before it cuts off the video, he moves his mouth closer to the mic while singing, if he was doing that, most likely the sound would have gotten louder the closer he got. He had his mouth RIGHT on the mic at the very end, and no distortion...

Basic recording 101 says that's not possible.

1) It is an outdoor show

2) It is a MUSIC VIDEO. The audio is not synched with the video...you can see places where Schon is 2 seconds off BECAUSE IT IS A MUSIC VIDEO

Pretty good studio vocal take there.

I am not a vocalist, but I can say this. That is the same type mic. he has used since I started watching him in 98. All outdoor venues I have been to. The accusation from my understanding is the original track from Generations has been used for the vocals. That song sounded NOTHING like the Generations track. I know this song well. One of my favorites. Deen was singing some, and Augeri did not even try to hit SOME of the high notes. Some of the "fill in" vocals were left out completely.

Look at the video next in line! Higher Place from the 2001 Las Vegas DVD. Big difference huh? Mic is not sitting on his face

That said, he really looked good then. Love that song, think it should have been a bigger hit.....

On the subject of mic's...anyone else notice how Perry sometimes let the mic rest on his chin? I always thought it was odd but it didn't seem to have any adverse affect, this can be seen in the Houston show. I noticed it when it first came out on MTV and again on VH1 Classic when I caught a few minutes the other night.

A good way of "measuring" the distance he held the mic at...maybe for 'the best sound'?

Perhaps, I believe its on the ballads in particular, not on the high parts.
