Too Much Touring?

As much as we all like to go to the gigs, in light of what's been said about Steve's voice being knackered... you just wonder if the guys have overdone it with the tour. I mean, they've been going a good few months of every year pretty much since he joined them. No wonder his voice has gone.

Yes. Too much.
I'd say, get SA medical attention and lop 1/3 off future dates and then stick to summers and early fall.

I believe the Summer of 2000 is the ONLY year they did not tour. That is when they were working on Arrival.
I have said many times that I would like to see the band take a year off to write together, rehearse, record and properly mix a new CD. I was somewhat excited when Steve said the band was going to take this year off to spend time with family.

Hi everyone - first time, long time (Styx fan)!
With regard to what everyone is saying about vocal stress and overdoing it, I can say for sure that singing every night for several days takes a serious toll on your voice!!! With Journey having only one lead singer (Styx has always had 3), I can imagine, it gets brutal. Your voice only has so much life in it - you gotta take care of it!
My .02.

Yep no shows that summer....some isolated dates that fall then back off the road to finish Arrival.
But since Augie's advant it's been full throttle touring every summer and fall but 2000.

Yes,too much touring.
Everyone knows that Schon is a restless musician and he needs to be on the road all the time.
However, his guitar never gets tired,he can always replace the cords and move on.But vocal chords cannot be changed.
He and the Management should have pondered on the human factor of this touring bussiness.
Then there's too much greed.
There is a paradox: the more money you have, the more money you need.
But no amount of money it’s worth sacrificing health,a good name and people’s feelings.
That’s what Journey did,unfortunately.
Now they reap what they sew.
JMHO.

So you think it's Neal that wants the constant touring?

For starters yes. It's HIS band now. He always thought it should focus around him and now it's supposed to, since he's the only one that's been there for every record/cd and concert. No one else can say that.
Fingers aren't the same as voice.
Neal is too well known for having ants in his pants.

Ants in his pants...

I haven't heard that one since primary school!!!
And while Liz says there is loads of guessing going on. My guess is that Deano knows something after seeing his blog entry from yesterday.

Oh yes! Journey is just his ways and means. He once said that he never got as much satisfaction from the Journey hits as he did from a bit he did with M.Bolton. Yet he uses those hits to give him a reason to force feed the fans his guitar rips. JMHO.

Let's face it, there are fans who focus on the vocals and nothing else, and there are fans who love the instrumentation. Schon is a master guitar player. If Schon has to "force feed guitar rips" to you, then maybe you need to leave Journey behind and become a Basia fan.

He's is not a master guitar player. He simply masturbates his guitar. He rarely makes the top listing for guitar artists and on a lot of music boards his style or lack of, is noted.

I love that one. Brilliant!
I do think he's a pretty damn good guitarist... but that just had me in stitches.

You see, this just shows your ignorance of guitar. Neal is no Yngwie, playing self indulgent 10 minute guitar solos and instrumentals. Neal is hugely responsible for the music you claim to love, Toni.

Neal not self-indulgent? hahaha, the best laugh I've had in a while. Neal's only responsible for tarnishing the Journey name anymore. Not "hugely responsible for the music (people) claim to love".
Again, I state NEAL IS NOT GOD! Nor a God of Music.

You got that right. He was in control and his art was memorable with Classic Journey. It's what he will be remembered for, if he is remembered at all. He had control and beautiful, memorable solo's which helped make Journey's Greatest Hits. imo

OK, genius. Tell me specifically how he is self indulgent with Journey. He plays the SSB for a few minutes. Voodoo Chile. Both crowd favorites.

Perhaps you should give a listen to some of Neals solo work. I own every solo cd he has put out and I probably listen to those as often as I do all my Journey cd's. He's an amazing guitar player.

His SSB sucks and sounds like it is being flushed down the toilet. He is a JH wannabe and only want to pretend that he is getting a standing ovation with applause.

Amazing doesn't make great. I think Clapton is an amazing player, but not great either.
I've listened to plenty of Neals solo stuff, I own much of it. My personal preference is Late Night. Don't assume because I don't hold Neal to a God like status that I'm not familiar with his solo work.
Neal is totally self indulgent, you can't see that "NIG" because you idolize him. People who idolize musicians don't think their heros can do any wrong. He's ruining the Journey name as much as Augeri and Cain are.

Listening to "Voice" is like eating a gallon size banana split.
