I read the article, but I'm confused. Is Augeri out permanently or is this a temporary thing? The beginning of it seems like it's temporary "According to Journey, "Steve's been suffering with an acute throat condition since before we kicked off the tour with Def Leppard. We were hoping he'd be in well condition to handle the rigors of the road but unfortunately it appears to be a chronic condition requiring total voice rest. We all wish Steve a speedy recovery."" But reading the entire thing makes it sound permanent reguardless of Steve's health.

My guess would be a wait and see attitude. How his voice comes back, how the fans react, etc.

Wait and see.

I thought it appropriate to pay a little homage to Steve in any regard.

Well, this sucks. I don't want to see JSS when I go to a show this summer. Why can't they just have Deen sing?

As much as I love Deen's voice he has stated he doesn't want to be a front man, and if I'm not mistaken didn't he do something to his voice last year? I don't think he wants to do that again.

I really hope the press release acknowledges the fans and all we have gone through for the past month. I'm sure they will make it sound like they had no idea, but a few people here effected change. It really made Journey face the music.

This is Journey. This is not some pop group or opening act. Regardless of what you think of Deano and all his supporters, they did something powerful. They helped make Journey face up to who they are. I feel bad for Augeri. But I'm sorry, as a Journey fan - a fan of the history - I could not stand by and let this happen. I had to come here and say what I felt. I had to call their management and ask them to respond, etc.

A lot of fans went to bat for Journey. A lot went to bat for their history and legacy. I truly hope their press release acknowledges that. This did not happen in a vacuum. One man died fighting Journey's fight, all the while not knowing the truth. How must his family feel that he fought so hard only to have this happen down the line. Maybe it is a blessing that he didn't know.

I don't think there will be calm here for a bit. People will argue about the length of Augeri's absence, whether or not Journey can survive another lead singer change, etc. But one day, things may be right again.

Let this be a lesson to all the other bands out there thinking of trying to get away with something similar. The fans are watching, and listening, and comparing notes.

And please - no more Steve Perry rumors. If he was ever going to come back, it would have been now. So everyone realize - it's over between them - forever. Well, that's my guess anyway. :)

Ok...Now I'm getting excited to see a Journey show this year. No offense to Augeri...but I was going to go looking for tapes or be prepared for a BAD show. This should prove interesting, though.

Great article, Andrew. And nice audio clips of JSS.

I'm glad Augeri's finally taking care of himself.

I truly hope he recovers and makes it back in good form.

As I am aware...the statement on my frontpage is the only statement that will be released and that is it in it's entirety.

Well.... Not bringing BT in to this, but CJ eludes to an "Official" statement that will be released tomorrow. If the statement you posted is it, well, they missed a great opportunity (again) to address the fans. Guess we are all left to mend our own fences.

Because Deen decided he didn't want to sing every song through the end of the tour. They also realize that Journey is a band with a frontman.

If that be the case, I think everyone should take up that challenge.

Now is definitely the time to move on. I have seen this board at it's lowest over the past month...I'm looking forward to and hoping for a more positive change from this point forwards.

Something I forgot to add up there....
I just hope this is something Augeri can take care of without surgery. I've heard a couple of boots and I was cringing on some notes just saying "God, get off tour, man, before you SERIOUSLY hurt yourself". Hope this can all be resolved with rest and care to his shredded pipes.
The ironic thing about all this is...if this type of platform (message boards for the public) was available in '86...I probably would've said the same thing regarding "someone else". (Although, not AS evident).
Anyway...just my thoughts.lol

That is quite the challenge. There is a lot of bitterness. While I think some of the posts were out of control, the lack of comment from the band, I think, is the single biggest issue. People like Ace, Monker, and many others were fighting the fight while Journey was silent. People like me and Deano and whocares, etc were begging for anything from the band. A lot of crap was flung.

So I wonder what step one is. I don't have that answer Andrew. Maybe someone wiser than I will have it.

Speaking of that - I heard something about a show at the Greek in LA, but don't see it on their schedule. Anyone have info on this?

I can see that is the beginning of the end for Journey, I hope not, but I can imagine that other members of the band want to be with family a little more after this tour. Hopefully Neal Schon, the workaholic that he is, will continue to rock our worlds for decades to come, with or without Journey.

A heartfelt thank you to Steve Augeri, I've met him a few times and there is no nices person, very humble. I hope he get better soon but be sure to take your time. A very warm welcome to Jeff Scott Soto, a great singer who I'm sure will nauil many Journey songs with ease.

Yes, thank you, I know. But I really do not want to sit through JSS sing those songs at concerts I paid to see the Arrival lineup play on, so this pisses me off. I guess now I know how the "Perry only" people felt when he was out of the band!

Nah people wanna see Journey ...Just like when we went to see soul sirkus and during the break the jss went on stage and started singing Journey tunes and it did piss off a few people in the crowd..."why are they singing this stuff isn't this soul sirkus?" "They need there own idenity and this isn't helping" those were some of the things i heard!!

Three-fourths of the original Soul Sirkus is now in the band. If it was a full length show, I think we would hear some, but the 80 minute limit probably prohibits that.

I guess Soto is updating his site with the news. It is "temporarily unavailable".

"Breaking News" indeed…

Well,at this point,I am glad that Journey decided to keep their performance real and do what they had to in order to carry on in a decent manner.

I feel sorry for Steve’s health condition, but hopefully he will do the right thing to get well.

Good luck to Jeff.
