Just wanted to say thanks to Rock n'deano for helping to bring Steve Augeri's vocal condition to the attention of the masses. In my mind your crusade may well have forced Journey's hand and helped get Steve the rest he needs.
Steve has been a remarkable front man for Journey other the past 8 years, a true soldier and like it or not deano has also proven an ambassador for the band.
So the Journey continues with the remarkable Jeff Scott Soto at the helm. An inspired choice, it will be great to hear how he handles the back catalogue.
Good times are ahead thats for sure (unless he lips to the 2001 DVD)!!!
Thanks again Deano and to anyoneone else who helped make this situation right.

Unfortunately, It certainly appears that the original plan was to keep using the 2001 Vegas concert as the show for this tour.
I am ashamed for Journey, not only for what they were doing to the fans but for what they did to a mans health and career!
Whoever, whatever brought Journey to "their" senses...thanks!

I was not a fan of his methods, but I have to admit Deano made a difference. I could have done without the personal attacks on Augeri and the rest of the band, and I still don't think tapes were used as much as Deano said (although probably too much).
Deano, after all the stones you threw at Neal and Jon's character, can you still be a fan?

STOP beating that horse you pinhead. I'm going to call the SPCA.
Dean did it his way, Andrew did it his way and they both took a lot of flack. It got things accomplished.
They both had a lot to lose and stood by their conviction in the face of that.
Screw Cain and Neal. I hope they continue getting flack from the fans for awhile for their misdeeds. Go to confessions, guys!

Of Course.
I am STILL a fan. This had to come out. I couldn't stomach it anylonger. This is Journey. They were acting like a bunch of dickweeds playing tapes and such. They were better than this, and now we can see a whole new side.
I do believe now, DL should be worried about having to follow them nightly. This is a whole new animal, and this one bites.
I will say however, this is not temporary. Augeri is out forever. He isn't coming back. I read on BT people are praying for his return soon. I can tell you unequivocally, he has as good as chance as Steve perry returning...ZERO.
Well, perhaps I helped make a change. So be it, now we can start the healing process.

Thanks for your efforts Deano...it saddens me, since Steve A was a great singer and made some great music with Journey, but the band needed to get called out for this, and they have (even though they won't publically admit it).
What upsets me is that the band didn't address the situation right away, they let Steve go live for the first U.S. shows, harming his voice even more and not doing any favors for the Journey legacy. This switch should've been done before the Def Lep tour started, but better late than never. I really don't believe Steve had much part in the active decision-making involved with the tapes...a band like Journey is like a machine, there's bills to pay and crew members to pay and the prospect of a lucrative joint tour with DL. Members of the Grateful Dead have talked about similar situations...the last few years of Jerry Garcia's life, the Dead shouldn't have been touring either, but their organization was so large that there was no stopping the machine until Garcia's death stopped it for them. Obviously Journey is on a smaller scale at this point, but I imagine Jon and Neal have gotten used to living a reasonably comfortable life with a steady income since Journey resumed touring in '98, and they just couldn't risk that, even if it meant putting on a fake performance.
Anyways, thanks to Deano for sticking with this story, despite taking shit from a lot of people, and Andrew for being a class act through the whole thing (although I'm surprised the band refused to talk to you after all the PR you've done for them, but that's just my opinion).
Now, the real question...given that Jeff is a great singer but has about half of Augeri/Perry's range, how the hell is he going to do this? I think his voice would sound really cool on some of the Journey tunes, but they're going to have to transpose just about every song...basically learning to play songs in different keys after playing them for 25+ years in the original key...in two days? Tomorrow should be interesting, to say the least...i hope someone records it, since I can't actually afford to go to the Chicago show. (F-you, Clear Channel)

I'm in complete agreement with this. I don't think Steve A had much of a look-in with regards to decision-making. I believe, if he had, they wouldn't have toured so relentlessly...
Steve A is a class act and I wish him only the best.

Don't you worry.... JSS has a great range and should not need any key changes!

He does have a great range. It just ends about a fifth lower than Steve Perry's.
There's a video on YouTube of him singing "Who's Crying Now" at a Soul Sirkus show, but it's transposed down several steps...that's easy for a piano player but not so much for a guitarist...you hit that open string and you're kinda stuck.
With any other band I'd say "well, i'm not sure it's going to work but i trust the band knows what it's doing." But I'm not sure anyone in this band knows what they're doing other than trying to keep the tour going...we shall see. I just hope it puts JSS in a positive light, I'd really like to see him live someday in the States (for less than $100, preferably...and yes, I had a school thing the night of the one Soul Sirkus show in Chicago...and i kick myself for it all the time)

It's one 1/2 step down from the original. If you watch JSS play, he's playing in Amin. Either
the keyboard is transposed down to Ab, or the recording is slow. It's no fifth by any stretch.

Maybe...i can't get streaming media at work...i just remember seeing that video awhile ago and thinking it sounded a lot lower. But WCN isn't really one of my favorite Journey songs so I could've been wrong...other than "Faithfully" I usually skip over the ballads and get to the real stuff.

Yes, Deano is a fan of Journey. That's why he wanted the truth exposed. While others were happy in denial, Deano wasn't. He saw a wrong, and he did something about it.
Journey would have continued this scam if Deano and others didn't notice anything. Face it. He brought the truth to this issue and now a healthy lead singer will bring Journey to superstar status again! His name is Jeff Scott Soto.
Thanks,
Journeytroll

Hmmm...seems to me he wanted a statement from Journey and/or Journey management that they were using tapes 100% of the time.
I've not seen such a statement from Journey yet. Who won what?

Look, they may (and I'm sure they never will) admit to using tapes for a year. But if this black cloud that people so wanted to hate brought this about, it's win-win for everyone.
1. Journey continues on, no tapegate
2. SA gets the rest he needs. Maybe he comes back. Maybe he doesn't.
Journey did not do the right thing in the way they handled it, and I hope they didn't ruin SA's voice forever for singing either on his own or with Journey again (unlikely there), but at least on some level it was recognized and everyone is moving on.
Sad that it had to get ugly. Journey should have done this before Europe at least.

Quite a few on this board took alot of heat for opening their eyes and ears and seeing just what they were up to after you pointed it out. Also thanks to Svante Pettersson for telling what he and his engineers heard coming from Journey's sound board at the Sweden Rock Festival.
Good job, Rockndeano. Your methods were questionable at times, your demeanor abrasive, but you wanted to keep them honest and the fans informed. Still no omission of guilt by the band, but at least the farce has ended. They need to get real with the fans.
Now on with JSS...and for God's sake Neal...don't tell people he sounds just like Perry this time!
