Here is JSS' message on his site:

A New Journey - In My Own Words

As you may have heard by now, I have accepted the opportunity the team up with Journey & help them continue their current tour with Def Leppard. I must start with my heart goes out to my dear friend, Steve Augeri, who has been dealing with some potentially threatening throat problems for some time. He is a BRAVE soul to go in & tackle these songs night after night, year after year & an amazing job he has done. Unfortunately he is only human, he is not bionic & the road can takes it's toll on the best of us out there. I couldn't be more sympathetic myself, I too experienced problems a few years back & had to go through nodule removal surgery. It is a risky operation with no guarantees that one's voice will be as it once was ever again. I pray that Steve's condition is not too severe & with the proper down time, he will come back stronger than ever!!

In the meantime, this in itself is a bit of a dream for me...1st, starting a group with the mighty Neal Schon and Soul SirkUS was one thing, but now singing all of these songs, as I did in my teens on a daily basis in my car, in the shower, etc., with the creators is pretty mind boggling. I take on this responsibility with absolute pride & respect to the legacy Journey have created. It's no surprise to anyone who knows of my musical history & background that Journey cuts into my influence quite deeply, strange but true, I know some of these songs better than my own. There were 3 singers who did impact & mold my style during my teens, Steve Perry, Sam Cooke & Freddie Mercury, my mentors in song, performance & of course voice!

I understand there will be many naysayers in this decision to continue the tour, especially for those who are expecting at least one of the 'Steve's', instead seeing yours truly up front, but I will do my best to uphold the reputation of the band & it's fans. It's a tough decision for a band, especially at this caliber, to take such a risk like this mid-tour but I couldn't be more proud to be a part of it. Remember, I too am & always will be a fan, with that I hope we can enjoy this ride together!

He sounds like nice, respectful guy...I am sure he still pinches himself as we speak.
I also believe that he will give his best on stage.

Can't help noticing that life is so strange sometimes...One man's shattered dream is another man's dream come true.Just an observation.

Feisty sonofabitch....gets that potshot in at the "naysayers" I love it, actually :D

PS, great kind words of respect for the man he's replacing at least for now.

Thanks for posting the message. JSS has talent & a strong voice and I'm glad to hear he will uphold the legacy of Journey as he takes over now. Best of luck or break a leg, I guess is what you'd say instead.
And, wishing SA health & recovery to his voice - much, much more important in the scheme of things.

I must say I am leaning towards "impressed"

Great PR! Reaching out to the fans quickly with his own words. IF he keeps this type of communication up, I could become real spoiled. After all, communication has not been one of Journey's strong points!

JSS has always been known as a fan friendly individual. He communicates on the Noticeboard and his forums quite a bit. I have not seen his myspace page yet but I would imagine it is the same there.

Well, no wonder why JSS site was down this morning ! A very nice message from him. Maybe JSS can teach the rest of Journey to be more fan friendly on their own site. :D

Ah the ever lovely JSS! :)

I've met the guy twice at 2 different Queen events and i have to say that the man has much time for the fans and is always keen to meet a few after the shows. His statement certainly comes across as very genuine and heartfelt and i look forward to hearing his take on the Journey catelogue.

All that being said, here's to a speedy recovery for Stevie A!! Love ya man and missing you already!

I hope you're right, but I suspect the band will tell him to stay the hell off the net.

Hi, JR. Guess the band turned YOU down when you sent the audience boot of your version of Still She Cries from the karaoke bar the night you went to the clink for assault. Stempler and JSS were the 2 finalists but alas, Jeff beat you. :P

Look at Troll coming out of nowhere and throwing one down on top of Joepa.......ouch

My guess is JSS didn't write that. Ever see his writings? "Love 2 see U...Hate 2 go now but U have 2 Know I am buzee."

Good point Deano. As was said earlier, He's Prince's competition when it comes to being a um, wordsmith.

It doesn't look like it was completely written by the person who wrote the pathetic joke of a release for the band though. That thing must have been written by an intern.

Hi Red13JoePa,

I'm JT not JR...but you will never believe me. Face it Rock 'n Deano was correct in his claim against Augeri and Journey.

I'm happy that Jeff Scott Soto is the new lead signer for Journey. Aren't you? The lip synching controversy ends with Soto...

Thanks,
Journeytroll

Please tell me this guy is his own man and not a puppet of the org. I agree, Journey could learn a thing or two from Soto on dealing with the fans perhaps

He did it once on BT too...In fact, I replied to the thread and said most posters would be banned if they said the same type of things.

Never known Jeff to be a puppet for anybody. He is genuine, the real deal.

I am against this for the reasons I have stated before. BUT, I will go to the Nashville show with an open mind, and take it all in before I condemn this move or approve it. But then it will take a few boots to see if it stays a high or low quality show.-ERIC

Soto is very much his own man. Does everything himself as far as his solo career...very hands on.
