Kevin Chalfant(The Storm) as a Steve Augeri replacement!

Jeff Scott Soto is in for this tour, but No-One will ever replace Steve Augeri(not even Perry). As a lifelong fan I waited the ten long years from 86-96 without the beloved Journey.I was ecstatic when Trial By Fire happened after waiting through Bad English,The Storm and Hardline I finally had Journey again. The resurection almost ended too soon. Then along came the Coney Island Cowboy MR.Steve Augeri some one Who respected Perry and could pick this band up and aim for the future! Steve Augeri is still to this day an incredible performer Who was so immediately and warmly accepted by Us Journey fans that Perry Himself was probably offended. Witout Augeri We probably would be writing what if blogs about Journey and seeing things like Santana,TheBabys and other one offs by the Journey band members.Soto is a familiar and easy choice for Schon and Castronovo and although it will sound edgeier and new it wont be the Steve Augeri show We've come to know and love. Steve Augeri bashers can go get clue on life, in the current I will remain a loyal Augeri/Journey fan! Don't waste Your time with any what ifs about Perry returning, even though We consider His legendary work set in stone,He has made it clear that part of His life is over and in the past. How about Kevin Chalfant to fill in for Augeri? Chalfants work with Ross Valory and Steve Smith makes this a no-brainer,His talent and Voice would be a perfect fit and would easily Journey on with the current line-up.Lets hear it for Augeri and appreciate what He has done as far as saving this band and lets look to the future with Soto and welcome Him with open arms and lets entertain the great possibilty of Kevin Chalfant sing with Our favorite band. Steve Augeri We cherish You as a human being!! Journey on fellow fans,JOURNEY-ON!!!!!!

I'm still a Steve A fan despite everything, but your post might be easier to read if you had ever heard of paragraphs.

Kevin Chaflant is recording with Shooting Star these days if you want to check them out.

Kev's great.
Anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE Kev. but let's face it, he's getting on in the years.
Time for some young blood.
Soto will be great!
Different, but great!
Think Paul Rodgers + Queen.
It's still Queen, just a tad different.

U could make this same argument for Soto's symbiotic work with Schon.
The guys hit it off and work great together.
Neal and Soto composed an albums worth of material in what? - a piddling matter of days!
Now just imagine how much more fertile they can be with Cain's input.
I implore everyone to think of the possibilities.....

Haha, well if he recovers he is coming back. But the point im making now is, that after Journey fell off the planet in 1986 then came back in 1996, after that it really didn't matter who joined the band if Perry wasn't there - because! anyone after Perry we had to learn to like again, and get use to a new singer, and because Perry a much bigger impact than any Journey frontman to date, for me Soto, Augeri, anyone else is good, but! because Journey have had their hay day, and accomplished what they had before Augeri joined the band, after all on the majority of Journey best material, hits, CDs', and compilations, music clips, majority or their songs Perry is the voice. So it doesn't shock me or its nothing new and im un-effected by any change Journey make, unless they change Schon or Cain or Valory, I don't think it would make a difference...

I doubt it.
If this tour w/ JSS should go smoothly then I believe staunchly that Neal will fight tooth and nail to retain his musical brother, JSS.
At most I think we might see Augeri do a guest vocal spot on the next JSS fronted record.
Just me prognosticating, of course!

Also remember that Chalfant was in the aborted Journey reunion right before Perry signed up and got back on board.

Why would he come back to only get burned?

JSS is in, and assuming this "audition" tour goes well, most likely a permanent replacement.

Back when Perry first left, I was wanting Kevin in. Even for a bout a year after Augeri took over. Maybe Augeri will be back (hope so) maybe not. I feel like this was a set up by Neal to do this, could be wrong, and I will give this new journey a shoot. Hopefully it will not be around for long.
But it would have been great if Kevin would have been the one chosen, but he had just signed on with Shooting Star. Hugo was too much of a "clone of Perry". I can see why JSS was chosen by Neal, just got finished working with him. But boy it seems like a set up by neal.
Anyway we will have to see.

On a second note
Just bought an MP3, wma I pod (creative), it has a recorder on it, and I will be in Nashville next week About 500mb, any idea how long this will record or the sound quality?-ERIC

Yeah I feel the same, you know.

I like Soto's voice, I would much prefer Soto's fronting the band from now on, until they call it quits. I never did embrace Augeri 100%, to be honest it was like (one day I like Augeri, then the next day - his vocals on the 2001 DVD annoyed me on the songs he did) so it was always 50/50 - I guess his vocals never did do alot of the songs justice, in my opinion.

Jeff Scott Soto, for me is a good choice - he has a good voice, its got power and its full, he's a good choice.

Please let's not assume that Soto is a permanent replacement, because we DO NOT know that for sure and the band's press statement certainly does NOT lead us to believe that.

You need to read the writing on the wall. They tried to sugar coat it as best they could.

Augeri is done. JSS has been warming up in the wings since SS.

Kevin's Shooting Star deal has nothing to do with it. (I love the new SS CD by the way) I guarantee you that if this job was offered to him he would have taken it. I heard it came down to Kevin and JSS. If you ask me they made the wrong choice. I'll be waiting for them to prove me wrong, but I doubt it. Kevin would have been a perfect fit. Maybe they will turn to him if this doesn't go over so well. This is the second time he almost got the job. Maybe the third time is the charm?

I would love to see Steve come back. I really admire him and don't think he got a good deal here. Understatement I know. ;) He filled some big shoes amazingly well. Not to mention what a great guy he is. I just hope his voice comes back strong and they regret their mistake.

Do you have any idea how much flack they would get if they said anything else? LOL... There are already some pissed off fans, imagine if they said Steve wasn't coming back? I am sure they think over time it will be much better received if Steve just never comes back.

I think we need to let the band do what they do best, enjoy JSS ripping it up and just forget about vocalist speculation for the enxt few months at the very least!

I don't think the lovefests are out of line. Unlike BT I think ALL opinions (be it fluff or negative) get a viewing here.

Stop requesting censorship or exclusion!

Banning the lovefests or telling them to leave subscribes to the exact thing you're complaining about already.

Let's move on.

I agree with much of what you say here.

I will say that I would have loved to hear Chalfant in Journey. However, I think the time for that has come and pased. Kevin even said in an interview that they had 'forgotten his number'. Kevin joining Journey doesn't even seem possible to me. If it would happen, I would love it...but it seems Journey moved on from that idea when they hired Augeri and I doubt they will return to it.

Also, I think it's good for Chalfant to not be involved in all of this...again.

You guys can't be that naive. The rumors of JSS joining Journey have been circulating for well over a year.

There was just no chemistry with Augeri. They have been Journeylite for 8 years. They were in a major rut. Neal was just waiting for a chance to dump him.

It's unfortunate that he went down in flames the way he did, but he knew he couldn't pull off a tour anymore and should have resigned with diginty when he had the chance.

JSS's voice well pull off the hits and give them a chance to go in the direction they should have gone in before.
