Frontiers "After Show" Tonight in Virginia

Postby Jeremey » Fri Jul 07, 2006 10:12 pm

Anyone who is in the northern VA area tonight for the big Journey show is invited to come over to the Clarendon Grill after the concert tonight for another 2 hours and forty minutes of Journey music. We'll probably be playing a lot more of the deep cuts than what you'll see at Nissan Pavilion....

The show will start around 1030, so if Journey leaves the stage by 9:30, there would be lots of time to get into Arlington (about 20 miles up the road)....I know several people who will be at both shows.

Anyway, we've got a link to a new "Faithfully" video on our news page - This is a direct link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrPzbOp8dfM

If that doesn't work you can check it out at www.journeytributeband.com/news.htm

Anyway, I'm still waiting to meet some of you from this forum, so it'd be great to see some of you at the show tonight!

Now I'm really bummed. Here I am sitting only a couple of miles away in Baltimore and I'm going to miss both shows. Had I known that Jeremy's band was also playing I would have taken off work early and caught them and JSS's debut. I'm kind of had enough Def Leppard after being in Camden & Hershey, so getting a chance to see Frontiers after the Journey show would have made it worthwhile.

Any chance of "Frontiers" booking any shows in Maryland?

I have been asking Jeremey that for a long time. They did play in College Park recently. Any plans to play there again, Jeremey?

From what I've seen and heard on the net, it's worth the drive just to see Frontiers.

Who is going to the Journey and/or the Frontiers show tonight? Anyone?

Jeremey, I wanna go to both shows, but the wife is not a Journey fan. And my friends all seem to be on vacation.

Hey man, thanks - We did play at Santa Fe Cafe in College Park this spring. We haven't had luck with our booking times in college bars lately - We played at College Park the night before spring break, then we played at the Bluebird (Indiana U) the night before finals started....Now Santa Fe Cafe wants us back but the soonest we have open is Dec 9th - I'm guessing that's not a strong date for a college bar either!! We're looking at places in Baltimore area though, and hopefully we'll get back up that way in late fall or early '07....We'll be back at Clarendon several more times this year though!

Excellent - I know we tried the Recher Theatre 3 or 4 years ago and they passed, something along the lines of "we don't need a Journey tribute," in the tone of voice most people would say "Air Supply" or "Burt Bacharach" - Though Rams Head has been on our radar as well....We'll get there eventually!

How did your last run of shows go Jeremey?
That would indeed be a fantastic night to see

The food at House of Rock is ok. I've seen acouple of national acts there (Mike Tramp, Krokus) and a bunch of local bands

Funny they would say that since they do book tribute bands now. They've had several Kiss tribute bands,. Also, Night Ranger, Cheap Trick, and Stryper have all played there so I wouldn't see why they'd be opposed to some Journey music.

Rams Head Live is just an awesome club. Best venue in Baltimore for live music. I've already seen Journey there as well as Ted Nugent, Gin Blossoms, Little River Band, and Little Feat. They have David Lee Roth and Queensryche upcoming.

I will also try to make it to the Clarendon on a free weekend.

Some club owners/managers are that way. Some people just envision Journey as a death knell.

Here's a funny story - In March of 2005 we rented out the Jefferson Center in Roanoke, VA as there were no real music halls in Roanoke. We advertised, got some corporate sponsors, paid for everything ourselves, and still sold about 350 tickets at $17 a piece - Keep in mind, this is Roanoke VA, not Atlanta or Baltimore. So 350 asses in the seats was a pretty good accomplishment.

After expenses we still made a decent chunk of change.

Fast forward a year later - A local yuppie raw bar of sorts decides to start booking regional tribute acts and brings in GNR, Metallica, Aerosmith tributes, etc. The crowd is our perfect target market - 25 year old ladies and the men who are trying to hump them...We were trying to decide what to do this year in Roanoke, since my sanity couldn't take organizing another Jefferson Center completely on my own, so we decided to play it safe and approach this local club - As we'd already gotten tons of email from local fans asking us to play there, and been cc'd on plenty of emails these people had sent to the club itself......

The club owner was convinced a Journey tribute would not bring in a soul. He absolutely would not book us, and then on the other hand would tell our fans who emailed him that we hadn't contacted him to play there. Despite the proof that we produced and promoted our own show locally that made well into the four digits at one of the region's best music venues - And we hadn't played in our home market in over a year - He would not budge. Finally, to make it happen we agreed to charge our own ticket prices, run our own door, and basically buy the venue for the night, in exchange for 100% of the door against a pittance guarantee to pay for sound production. The show is next month.

So short story long, some people can't allow their own prejudices to be overruled by common business sense. Unfortunately for this guy, we'll be clearing well above what we normally would have asked for in guarantee.

Some people just don't get it! But I'll definitely be re-approaching the Recher...Thanks!

As someone in a Rush tribute act here in New England, I'll just say venues are funny. Their bookers do bring personal bias in, so if they don't like Rush, Journey, etc., you generally don't get booked. Now, even if they hate you but you can guarantee a few hundred asses in there drinking or spending money, they may overlook that. Maybe.
