New Era For Journey

This is all just my speculation, but allow me to wax philosophically.

I hope this is a fresh chapter in Journey's history. It is my opinion that Soto is the change Journey has needed for years now. You don't replace Perry with a soundalike. (For those that say Augeri was not hired to be a vocal "clone", go back and watch Deen say that he was Steve Perry with a perm on Separate Ways during BTM). You replace Perry with a singer who has his own style, who brings something different to the table.

I keep hearing people say "This is just temporary, Augeri will be back". I am not buying that for even a second.

I also don't think you can judge ANYTHING on fan acceptance from this tour. It is my understanding that most of the crowds are DL fans, and Journey is viewed as a warm-up band. With Augeri, I would tend to agree with this view.

It is no secret that I am not an Augeri fan. I don't know much about Soto, but I like what I hear when he tones his voice down from screamer to singer. I am pulling for Soto like the Augeri Heads pulled for Augeri.

I believe Journey is going to open things up, get noticed, and finally write something worth listening to. In my opinion, Generations was a joke - a horrible album. I want them to find time to write this year, get in the studio next year, and become a HUGE blip on the radar screen.

JOURNEY IS BACK ! In a way that hasn't happened since Trial By Fire :D .

Finally, something to get excited about with the band, with the internet boards, and with the music.

Funny, I can't argue with a damn thing you wrote. Soto has soul. I'd like to see him use that twist on songs like Who's Cryin' Now and other ballads.

I can agree with what you said,Knox, except for the BTM part...I believe Deen was reffering to the reaction of the people when they saw/heard Augeri ("It's Steve Perry with a perm!") .

Anyway,I am glad Jeff managed to pump in some fresh blood into Journey's veins, and although I can't say I am happy with the way Steve Augeri had to step down, maybe it happened with a reason.Nothing is more precious than one's health and for Augeri it was definitely time for a break.

If indeed the chemistry between Neal and Jeff is working, they will certainly use it to write some songs - it would be a shame not to if they feel like they have creative energy!

As for the current tour,I believe it will turn out much better than expected.
To me it looks like JSS has enough talent, power and charisma to convince even the skeptics in the audience.

knox,

You make some very good and valid points. Here is my take, for what it is worth. I DO like Augeri. He had the doo dads to even attempt to keep the Journey alive, and did it to the best of his ability with class and pride IMO. Not getting on that subject again, cause this is a good day in the Journey camp, but I am convinced of the tape issue. I don't feel Steve had any choice. Why, what, how it came about or whose decision it was I have no idea. I truly feel badly for Steve, but I agree with those who believe he will never return. I also agree that this could be HUGE for Journey in the long run. Record labels may start taking a long hard look at them now, and see the big time potential they have. I love JSS, and think he is a true class act. He showed that last night by dedicating the show to Steve. He is also a VERY talented musician, both in vocal and instrument. Neal is probably having a ball. I only worry about Jonathan. Did you notice him being strange last night? I read a couple of reviews that stated he seemed to be somewhere else, and going through the motions. I wondered what his take on this would be. Thanks again for all the info. One other thing. As for Generations, I love a majority of it, but there were some certain down spots.

My problem with this, is JSS does not sound like Perry. Augeri did, but also sounded like himself too. JSS does not have the Journey voice, so most of the Journey sound is gone.
Cain may realize this. If cain leaves the band, the band might as well be call Soul Sirkus. To me it is close to being called that now. But I will keep calling them Journey until I see what happens next. I doubt Augeri will be back (A NEal set up), but I hope he will. But this is a detour for the bad right now, will have to see where they go from here. If JSS stays and the next cd is more Soul Sirkus sound than Journey, I can say I done with them, will still buy cds since I like Neal and Jon, but going to see them, talking good to other people, no...........But I am in wait and see mode until then, not gong to pass judgement yet-ERIC

From BackTalk regarding CNN:

"Good morning! I was watching CNN this morning, and on their ticker tape, they announced that Steve was ill & that Jeff was going to finish the tour."

So, the people hoping they will see Augeri this year (or ever again with Journey), stop holding your breath.

Uh dude, if you saw Journey last year you didn't see Augeri live.

As far as Cain being weird, he is next on my list. He can get the fuck out too, as far as I'm concerned.

JSS...wow, dude has testes. JSS=Journey/Soul/Sirkus. Dude brings in a value that can only take this band places.

I thought I was going to go, then I saw the price for a LAWN seat at DTE, $28 for a chuck of grass and dirt in my arse. I paid $10 for a lawn seat for Sammy Hagar Sorry, I'll wait for the boots to roll in.

UH...OH, why is Cain next on your list, Deano??

Also I've listened to some more clips of JSS, and HE IS REALLY GOOD!!

My guess Lori would be that it's because he's a arrogant prick.

Neal get's what he's wanted for a long time, a hard rocking Journey without all the fluff ballads. Don't get me wrong I like most of the ballady stuff, that is before that's all they wanted to play all the time. But it's Neal's band, even more so now.

IF they continue with Jeff, he'll have a part in writing, and he can write to HIS voice, whether hard rock or ballad types. The power ballad of yesteryear is done for I think. Cain can be proud of the fact that he helped to bring it about, but they're form an era long gone, in my opinion.

Yep.. agreed.. JC is the Journey Conductor. He leads the band on stage. I guess some people  can't let go of conspiracy theories and must always have a place in some spotlight to fuel their ego-centric fires. :!:

You're so full of shit it's laughable.

I saw Journey from the second row LAST YEAR, Einstein. I could see Augeri's freakin' dental work. He was singing live.

You're wrong, again.

And now Cain is on your "list," whatever that may be.

I'm sure he's quaking in his boots. Talk about issues, lol. You're sad, dude. Between your constant misstatement of "fact," and ridiculous, unprovoked personal insults (BTW, you're not even worthy of shaking Frank Martinez's hand) , you're at zero on the credibility meter.

Maybe Andrew keeps you around for the "amusement factor." Can't see any other possible reason why he would.

So, what reason would he have for keeping you around then? Andrew has asked that the BT chatter stop. I believe that would mean from both sides.

Give it a rest. It's become very boring and high schoolish, IMO.

Good points, plus Jeff can and is willing to also sing anything on any level. Very versatile.
I too expect this band to become much harder.
I don't believe Journey is done, I think the 'Journey' has just begun again with Neil and the helm again.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course.

Doesn't change the fact that Deano spouts fiction as though it was fact. And yes, I did call him on it. I wish more people would. The guy needs a serious reality check.
