I don't get why you'd remove Castronovo's songs from the setlist?

He's very good at the singing part, but maybe he needs a break once in a while too?

In case no one remembers it was the night for "the new guy" to shine and make in impact.

It was the first night, who knows if they'll have him sing anything soon. give it time.

He had to use his voice a lot when he was covering for Augeri. Maybe he is just trying to give it some rest now.

Maybe to take away the Perry-ism. Augeri and Deen both sound some what like Perry. Now that the front man doesn't have that Perry fill, why have someone else remind the crowd of that?-ERIC

Nobody here will realize it, but Journey's current singer is the best one to date!

Don't believe me? Listen to the guy's albums with Yngwie in the '80s and other projects. More power, more range.

Sorry, that is the most idiotic statement ever written. There was a guy from 77 to 96 was pretty fucking good. In fact, he was the best male singer of all time.

Ronnie James Dio and Joe Lynn Turner.

Then again I'm more of a metalhead. LOL

Just watched Perry on the 7/31/81 show and it WAS off the hook!!!!!!!

Good, yes. Best male singer of all time? No. There are many who would be in the pantheon and it boils down to how you define best, and in what genre. Is Perry better than Sinatra? McCartney? Pavoratti? They may not all be rock, but you can't say their voices are not considered timeless.

In the rock genre, fans of other bands would argue with you. You may think Perry was the best ever (and before you bring it in, no I don't think Dennis DeYoung or Tommy Shaw are the best rock singers ever), but I think even you can concede there may be better singers out there.

As good as Turner and Dio are, I think Perry was maybe a more complete singer. I think Joe Lynn Turner is close, but Dio is just a Heavy Metal singer, can do soft rock, but he's no diva.

Its a tough choice between Turner and Perry, because obviously Turner can grind it out and also have soaring vocals... so its a tough call. But after hearing Raised On Radio or Frontiers, Perry was pretty much on top.

Perry is the best at what he does. It's not fair to him or other singers to compare him to other genres.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

It's so easy to get a rise out of you pantywaists...

Yeah, Perry's pipes are classics, but shit, no way in hell is he the "best male vocalist" ever. Come ON. There are singers who can sing even higher and lower. There's more to it than that.

And whoever wants to bag on Ronnie James Dio has a serious case of HUA. You have to listen to RJD in his prime, and before/beyond. You have to listen to Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath and his solo albums to really get a grasp of how amazing his voice. In his prime, his voice was easily better than Perry's!

But never mind, PerryJourney fans refer to Steve as "The Voice." ELP fans refer to 1970's-era Greg Lake as "The Voice." I've even heard Paul Rodgers of all people referred to as "The Voice."

Might as well refer to Jeff Scott Soto as "The Voice." Hell, he sings circles around a lot of guys.

So did Bon Jovi, other singers said the same thing.

Well at the end of the day, you can have a strong voice. Being able to sing different genre's is the hard part. And Soul, has alot to do with it. I don't hear anyone talking about Billy Joel here, or George Michael, how about Elton John?

Elton John, c'mon - this guy ranks up there, easily.

Billy Joel? Decent. George Michael and E John? Dude, I think it would be most difficult to sing live being these two guys especially with them being gay. Tough to sing, then smoke a pole or two, and sing again. Can you imagine G Mike blowing Andrew Ridgley, then singing Wake Me Up So I can Blow You, er, Wake Me Up, Before you Go Go, then smoking some more pole? Tough act.

You tell me, you've got the boot from last nite. Liar.

They're higher than JSS's range really goes. I'm sure he can do it but Deen probably sounds better. I'm wondering how Faith sounded. Kinda bugs me that they're playing it, I associate it so close with Augeri.

It shouldn't bug you any more than Soto or Augeri singing Perry-era songs.
Perry wrote LTS by himself and the band covers it to this day.
At least FITH was written by the entire band.
It's a Journey song. Not a Steve Augeri song.

Yeah I mean, Bon Jovi called Perry the voice a few times. Its funny, watching some Queen doco's, when Freddie hosted a party, it was crazy. Freddie would be there talking about how "the bigger the better" referering to the salami, the shlong, then he's out there belting out a tune - but! he was good at singing regarldless of what he enjoyed in the meantime.

I was always sceptical on Augeri aswell, has the ear rings, I thought with that perm hair style and ear rings, Augeri definetly tossed the salad.
