Looks like they got an encore in Virginia Beach

So says the thread at http://www.journeymusic.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/010754.html

Not sure why Deen did the two ballads, but I don't have a huge issue with it. "Patiently" in soundcheck to boot ... maybe I'll actually buy a ticket for Boston!

The two ballads are the two songs that I wondered if Soto could get up high enough for to make them sound right. I'm glad Deen's doing them. Jeff's voice is great, but it's different, it's not helium high like Perry or Augeri or Deen's can be.

Well at the very least, look how much they changed the set list in just one night! I am willing to bet that this is something Neal has been jonesin' to do for quite some time now. We all know how he likes to stretch out musically on stage. Obviously, JSS has the capability to do that. I know that I get pretty jazzed when I see the set list change from night to night during the tour. For the last few I've seen, I pretty much knew what I was going to get because the list almost never changed save for a song here or there. They always end their tours around my neck of the woods so I see them on one of the last remaining dates by default. This year I may actually get a few surprises! I expect the dirty dozen but I don't ever remember Anyway You Want It being the second song played in concert ever!

This certainly may give some credence to the recent allegations of which I shall not speak, as they may have not been able to change the setlist up for that very reason, at least for the last tour or two.

Paul Stanley has acknowledged a similar issue in KISS with having Ace and Peter back in the band and all the complaints they were getting from the fanbase about the set list. Paul said something to the effect that they were just as sick as the fans of doing the same set list for the last couple of tours, but musically Ace and Peter couldn't handle anything different or more complicated than the early material. Now they've been shaking it up quite a bit having Thayer and Singer in the fold. Same thing could apply here, for sure. No wonder Neal looks ecstatic in the photos.

Gotta say I agree with the comments about Jonathan looking less than thrilled, but then again, anytime I've seen them I've never noticed him to be that animated, especially with facial expressions. Neal is the same way a lot of the time, so to see him with a big grin on his face is great. Of course, Ross is Ross!

I am looking forward to some more reviews and pictures. Very few so far....
Was anyone who posts here going last night?

Setlist changes night to night are fun.......but they did change stuff up a lot last year too. In the same week I saw them at SPAC and Darien and there were 6 different songs.

I'm glad they put Open Arms in and have Deen doing two songs because all the reviews so far gave really high praise for Deen's vocals and more casual Journey fans at the shows wanted Open Arms. Deen has more of the Journey sound than Jeff right? Good idea for the older Journey fans who may not care for a harder rock sound?

You would have to tell me that! LOL. I had third row for the Darien Lake show last year but wasn't feeling well and didn't make it. I'm still kicking myself. First show I'd missed in ages...

You need to download Jeff's version of Faithfully off of iTunes. He does a great job with song!

Great pics! It looks like Journey has not missed a beat.
Really makes me feel bad for SA though.

Still would like a review of the show if anyone went.
Anyway, what was I saying.........

I think the title should read they gave an encore not got one. Journey always merits and gets calls to do more songs on tour. Whether they give an encore is up to times constraints and such

I think he/she meant the FANS GOT an encore. I agree with the rest of your post though.
