JSS - Talisman Stuff

Postby Greg » Mon Jul 10, 2006 6:46 am

Just thinking about some of the hard rockin' stuff that JSS has done with Talisman and other projects gets me really excited as to what a JSS fronted Journey album would sound like. Like what I heard from NIG and some of the others who really supported this band post-perry, they wanted a harder rocking Journey and I have to agree with them. I thought Arrival and Generations were a step in the right direction, but I believe JSS will add the deminision in song writing that Journey hasn't had. What I also like about JSS is the fact that he can be a true Rock, Metal, AOR singer, yet he could also be a great R & B singer as well. I believe that flexibility in vocal style is why Perry was so successful with Journey and why the band itself was very succesful in the 80's. I don't think that flexibilty has been there since Augeri came into the band. Please don't take this as crapping on Augeri. If he returns to the band, I'll keep on supporting Journey, but I just believe Journey would be better with JSS. Augeri has been a great frontman who does a great job with material that is handed to him. It's my humble opinion. I can only say that because I've become a big JSS fan in recent years and feel he has been badly under appreciated as a song writer, musician, and singer.

I fully believe that Journey is still a "viable product"....even though Neal gets on my nerves. At times.

I mean, Rush is still putting out product; they're approx. the "same age" as Journey - and they're pretty much even on the musical playing field...

IMO, JSS just may be the shot in the arm that Journey - AND the Music Business that deals with them - needs.

...Just my 2-cent "dues" for Sunday. 8)

One of the difficulties Journey has is that most of their catalog is on Sony and Sony has no division that actually pushes the back catalog.

Universal has the New Door & Chrinicle labels that are specificly around to sign aging artists that they own back catalog of. It allows them to put new music out as a vehicle to sell the back catalog.

Unfortunately, it would make no sense for Universal to sign them as for the most part it would promote sales in the catalog of their competitor.

Incorrect. Legacy is Sony's reissue side and has been doing it well for years and years. Legacy does not do new material. If you look at many reissues, you will see them branded or co-branded with Legacy.

I should have said "in tandem with new material release"

No worries. I just think given the current state of Sony, Journey wouldn't get any kind of new deal. They'd do better financing it themselves and finding someone to distribute it. They'd make more money.
