Hope or Denial?

Someone suggests a single with Soto, and people are still saying this isn't a permanent thing. This is not to blast anyone, just wanted to see who thinks this is the real Journey now, and who thinks Augeri will be back.

I firmly believe that SOTO is in and Augeri is out.

My opinion is that it's total denial. Much like everything else...

Augeri's out. Not sure if Soto's gonna be THE MAN, we'll have to see how the tour goes. But Augeri's deffinatly out IMO.

Augeri's condition will take quite some time to recover from...likely more time than Journey would be willing to give him since they don't seem like they're willing to take a year off from the road. It's possible they're just not making an official announcement about Augeri leaving permanently to keep them from looking like assholes for firing him immediately after the lip-synching thing had been discovered. If, somehow he did fully recover, it's possible he would return but I imagine the band is planning their future under the assumption that he's done. Whether this involves making JSS a band member or finding someone else after the tour is over, I have no idea.

I think we'd have to be daft to think he's not got the boot.

That's all I'm saying cos I'll probably get the boot from here if I say too much.

The fact is Augeri, or any other singer from this point on in Journey is a salaried employee and not a full band member. If you're in that situation, you can either perform or you can't. They are not going to stop the touring machine and they're incomes over it. You're in no position to call the shots unless you want to lose your job.

I have a feeling he is probably gone, too.

But I personally HOPE he is not, because the band treated him like shit and killed his voice. They shouldn't get out of their mistake by making him look like the incompetent one.

I would be extremely surprised to see Augeri fronting Journey ever again. I am still deciding whether JSS is my kind of vocalist, but in theory I believe this is a good move for Journey and in my opinion, probably what they should have done in 1998; that is, engage an established vocalist with his own style who could bring something different to the table. Arguably, with Augeri, they tried to "play it safe" and have paid the price.

Kiss treated Eric Carr like shit right up until he died and no one cared. This isn't the first or the last time a "hired gun" has been abused and tossed aside.

In fact the whole lipping plan was probably the band trying to keep him around if at all possible. An awful decision, but they were NOT going to stop touring, so my guess is that's why it came about.

The fact is, Journey plays too many gigs in too short a space of time. Always have done.

People slag off Perry and say he didn't want to do as many tours as some of them did... ever think about why? Maybe his voice was suffering the same way Augeri's is now.

I personally don't think he has a throat infection. I think his voice is ruined.

See Saint John's post in the singing style thread for an idea of what Perry's schedule was like. It was brutal.

Considering they put out 5 studio albums in 6 years between '78 and '83, I imagine their touring schedule was fairly intense during that time. I'm not sure why that stopped afterwards, unless Perry really lost the desire to perform after the RoR tour.

Azoff & Co flew in to see the band, then the next night was Augeri's last. You do the math.

In September of 81 they performed 10 shows in 11 nights. That IS brutal.

That is brutal, but they were much, much younger then.

I don't know, it seems interesting the timing of events there.

If Azoff didn't fire him, I imagine there was quite a discussion after the show.

Ah Les.. come on.. the truth is nobody here knows what was discussed, who went where and what is the truth about this. Maybe Andrew has spoken with the guys again and will fill us in. :!:

Exactly. Which is why I say we may well be getting to close to it for their liking.

And come on Ace, Andrew couldn't tell us the real story even if he wanted to. He gets on well with the guys and they trust him not to broadcast classified information. And he doesn't.

Someone will work it out at some point no doubt. Most people aren't stupid.

But in that post it was closed because the band is not recording and not planning on it. What does that have to do with MR?

They're all upset at the moment... maybe they're trying to stop people upsetting them further by saying things like he won't be back, do a CD with Jeff etc... emotions are running a lot higher over there than they are here.
