so many different opinions about the same thing!!

Im loath to talk about that other place or make reference to it...

... but I will because Im basing this post on the gig reviews there.

Isnt it just amazing at the vastly different impressions that different folk get over the same gig.

If you read a dozen reviews... its impossible to believe people are watching and listening to the same gig...or singer

Some love JSS, some think he is ok...but not a "Journey" voice...some thought he was !awesome" others thought he "sucked"

Different strokes for different foks I suppose

Think Ive made my mind up... JSS will be temporary only.... Steve A wont be back..and a new singer will be named after this leg of the tour

Christ, no. Not a 4th singer (and don't give me Fleischman or Rolie, either come on). Either Augeri comes back or you roll w/ JSS. I hope they don't (and don't think they will) go the route of your theory.

I'm leaning twords this to ...I think Jss is gonna do a great job filling in but it's to much of a soul sirkus thing with 3out of 5 already here and no offense but when neal lost his 300 grand i don't think he's gonna walk down that road again. They need to keep that sound seperated from the classic Journey and they can't really make any new tunes and not have it sound like soul sirkus. To me that would be impossible.imo so it's time to go shopping for a new singer and ask themselves do they really want to try new stuff or stay with the tried and true and keep doing what the crowd comes to really see them for.

Well, if JSS doesn't work out, I nominate Jeremey. He posted this link in another thread, so I am sure he is OK with me re-posting it here. Fantastic voice.

I think Journey should have hired someone like JSS during the late 90's. I've never been a fan of hiring soundalikes. They need to keep JSS and take the band in a new direction. Just my humble opinion of course.

OK ... I was reading JSS's site and he said he had throat problems. Obviously, he doesn't have them right now. So, who's to say that SA's voice won't come back stronger and better than ever with the rest of this year off. And if so, who would Journey go forward with? Wouldn't they look kind of bad if they went forward with JSS and a few months later, SA was heard singing somewhere sounding really good? Just food for thought ....

Yeah, hopefully the plan is to bring back SA. But if your scenario happens, then maybe it was pre-determined.

I can't see them hiring anyone from a tribute band.

Predetermined in a "fate" kind of way ... or predetermined in that it was the plan all along? If it's the latter, that really makes me sad ... and angry ... and I'll feel like a hypocrite because then SP was right all along.

Jeez.... just got a load of Jeremy doin a "Perry"

Give him the job...as good a "soundalike" as yr likely to hear

Seems he aint a bad songwriter too..... people may scoff at the idea of a "tribute" singer being brought in... but you know... let the bog standard fan have a vote... and Im sure he wld rather have a close proximity to that voice than not

NO MORE SOUND & LOOK A LIKES PLEASE!!!!!

Journey would look no worse to many people than they already do because of things as of late, if S.A. was singing somewhere else. I seriously doubt it will happen in concert though. (MY opinion) If he's not re-doing the Tall Stories material, then I don't see him doing it in concert either. Band member, whether hired guns or not, change out all the time, it's not a crime if JSS stays on or leaves, and S.A. doesnt' come back. Not to me anyway.

As I've stated already in a few threads, JSS if he stays on, has a chance to write in HIS style, with HIS range completely in mind. That would help take a BIT of pressure of trying to sing Perry era songs every night or two.

NOT ONE of the former lead singers will be back, and that's the way it should be.

Oh, and Didn't Jeremy say that he's not interested? I think he even had semi-harsh words for the band over this last batch of things, which led me to believe he'd not even entertain the idea.

Yeah, there's a ton of stuff on their band site www.journeytributeband.com from live gigs they did. He's really good and the original stuff he posted on here in another thread is great too. What I like about Jeremey is that he sounds a lot like Perry but doesn't try to be exactly Perry. Hugo is great too but he not only tries to look like Perry, he seems to have emulated all of his mannerisms as well -- and I don't know if others would agree, but that is just a little creepy to me. I know he's made a career of it .... and many Elvis impersonators have done the same thing ... but it just feels strange to see it. If you close your eyes listening to Hugo, he sounds a lot like Perry, so does Jeremey, but there's still some Jeremey in it. Like he's still his own person if you know what I mean.

As long as all the guys are alive and kicking, I'll always want what Perry, Schon, Smitty, Ross and Cain did best. That's my Journey. I accept no substitutes.

The big difference between Hugo and 90% of Elvis impersonators, is he's actually good at what he does. I don't know much about what's Hugo does to "impersonate" Perry these days, but he's got quite the resemblence and sound, that's for sure.

As for subs, that's the best part about being a fan of the music, everyone has their own opinions, and like "their" favorite era of the band. Having differing opinions makes the world a better place.

Agree 100% here. I would be extremely shocked if SA graces the stage or studio with Journey again. At this point, it's JSS or bust in my book.

And if you were in a Journey tribute band knowing what they do to singers, would you join up willingly? The money can't be that good ...

I'm not in any band much less a tribute band, and I know that trying to sing Perry songs, expecially in his key, are what kill my voice more than any other. It's a hard gig, and I applaud people who can do it the right way.

... and this is why we have a female singer for our Rush tribute band. She nails the early stuff.

I sang in a number of cover bands in the late 80's/early 90's. Back then I could nail the Perry sound pretty well. But we would only do one or two Journey songs at the most because the vocals are just so demanding. I couldn't imagine singing an entire set of those songs night after night. Journey should just tune down half a step to give whoever is doing the vocals a little breathing room.

Well I probably shouldn't admit this, but I went to see some Elvis impersonators with some friends many years ago. We'd all been in Memphis a few months before as a big group of friends and some were about to settle down and move to the burbs and wanted a sort of reunion event -- they picked the Elvis impersonators gig, not me. (Just had to explain that ... oh the shame!) But I have to say that the guys we saw that night were incredible. They really were excellent at what they did. One of them had violet eyes but was the spitting image of Elvis and had all his moves and mannerisms down pat and if you closed your eyes, it was Elvis. That's what Hugo reminded me of -- except of course, he's a Perry impersonator. But yes, he really is very good at what he does. I just wonder if he acts like Perry off stage or he just puts it on for the show.

I agree with you Todd. I don't think anyone would really notice if it was just a little bit lower. Those high notes are hell on the vocal chords -- even when you're just singing along at a concert. I am always hoarse the next day. Of course, I haven't sang regularly in oh ... let's just say a long time.

siobhan222, I actually only thought about the Vegas Elvii. Didn't even give any thought to Memphis. Thanks for admitting you had no part in picking the show though.
