I love that song.
Other than the video and audio not synching up (on my machine anyway) it sounded great.

He sounds great. The deeper areas of his voice don't take away from it one bit, he actually makes it sound fuller in parts.
And I love what Augeri always did with this song. Never liked it before I heard Augeri sing it, believe it or not.

Thanks for posting it.
Sounds and looks great! I'm glad to hear that they've got Jeff's vocals more out front, something that didn't seem to be there with Augeri.

I'm curious to hear a more clear audio recording.
It's common knowledge most of the backing vocals on the choruses are taped. Deen sings a lot of them, but on the big multi-part stuff like "Be Good To Yourself" and a few others, it's painfully obvious that it's a tape. (i think it's lame, but this is different than Augeri-gate...Toto, Asia, and plenty of others do the same thing) So I'm wondering, did they (in a day) redo the backing vocal tapes with Soto, or is it still Augeri's voice coming through in the background on some songs? I know when John Payne first toured with Asia they had to do tapes with him doing all the backing vocals since it would've been obvious if John Wetton's voice was still coming out of the speakers during a chorus. I can't really tell from this "Only the Young" video what's going on...it was just something that crossed my mind.

I'm glad you're so excited about it tragchk and it makes you happy. I'm not a professional singer like you so perhaps I'm not as qualified to judge. But to my ears, he cuts a lot of notes short -- not holding them the way I'm used to -- and he was really straining to hit some of the high notes. I didn't care for it. This is pretty much the same thing I felt when I was at last Monday's show. Again, that's just my opinion and I'm just one person.

Not too bad to look at either.

And that just goes to show how we all have different tastes, doesn't it? I don't like JSS's looks at all. My closest friend thinks my husband is ugly whereas I think he's gorgeous. She likes blonds with blue eyes. I like dark hair, dark eyes. Different strokes, and all that. Makes the world interesting.
Glad you like him. I hope you get to see him live and enjoy.

I didn't notice that so much, to me Augeri cut off notes alot more than JSS. Of course I'm
talking about the "live" performances.

I haven't noticed that at the Journey w/Augeri shows that I've been to -- with the exception of the first one in 2001 in Chicago. I've been to ... I think ... 9 since then. But I didn't go last year at all. And I certainly wasn't at every show by any means ... so you could be right.

Wow, please tell me your friend didn't say that to you about your husband.
I like what I hear and see of JSS, but I doubt I'll go see them live.

She did and she does ALL the time. She says he looks like a middle eastern cab driver in New York City .. and at other times, she says he looks like Howard Stern. She thinks that's hysterical so she loves to say that to anyone who will listen! She's a good person otherwise. My husband is 6'3" about 200 lbs, olive complexion and has long dark curly hair to his waist, big brown eyes, no facial hair. He's not everyone's cup of tea but I think he's absolutely gorgeous -- even as he gets a little gray and a few wrinkles. Same friend also thinks Steve Augeri is one of the ugliest guys she's ever seen, second only to Steve Perry who she thinks looks like a wimpy girl (when he was younger -- that's her reference). Oh ... I should say that particular friend is visually impaired. That has gotta be the reason, right?
My other friend calls my husband "the hippie" - all because of that long hair.
I like what I hear and see of JSS, but I doubt I'll go see them live.
Really, how come?

Wow Chad, I've said that a whole bunch of times. With his amazing vocal range and sometimes almost unbelievable ability to hold notes, hit the highs perfectly, that's exactly what happened. There are many many times I listen to the old Perry and get goosebumps. I don't think there will ever be another voice like that. He had an amazing gift. I don't know if he still has it. I'd love to hear it if he does. And if he ever got back with Journey, then, I'd be the first in line for a ticket. I'd go to a solo show as well. I'd love to hear that voice again.
He didn't sound too good in that clip with the White Sox but it wasn't too bad either ... and he sure looked like he was having fun. I wonder if that put any of the old spark back in him? He said he's doing some scales to see if he still has that voice.

Well, as long you think your husband is gorgeous, that's all that matters. I think the same about mine. Sorry about her eyesight deficiency.
I probably won't see them live because I prefer Steve Perry.

JSS does a great job...but in the original key? I don't think so...close...but at LEAST a 1/2 step down...maybe a whole step...but VERY good none the less...

Ahhhh ... do you think there's ever a chance he'll come back? I know he's said he wouldn't many times. But the Eagles said they'd only get back together if hell froze over.

I don't really think he'll come back to Journey. A solo effort would be nice though.

Well we can keep hoping, can't we? Even a solo studio effort would be nice .. even if he never toured.

And how do you know this? Are you a vocal instructor? Or perhaps you have a tuner that you used? I think you are wrong, but so be it, I will bow to the obvious plethora of knowledge you have!

I don't see how hard it would be to listen to the original, find out the key, liten to this one, find out the key and see if they are the same. Have you tried?

Yup...and I think he is wrong...that doesn't make me right...it just my rather uneducated opinion.
