As most of you're americans and attends Journey shows now and then,I'd like to know how well JSS doing in Journey.JSS sang with
a superb Swedish band called Talisman and he sang great with them for sure.Although he's a great singer i've a hard time to believe he's right for Journey. This is just me asking a question ,not making a statement so don't get upset about it 8)......BTW,I hope JSS's doing well.

It depends on who you ask Tomas. It appears the majority opinion on this forum is that JSS is doing a fantabulous job and he's the future of Journey. They like his voice, his stage presence, his energy. I'd say that sums up what most have said.

Then, there are several who thought he was fine for a "fill-in" but thought he was too different sounding for Journey. Someone suggested Journey should change their name to Journey w/JSS to let people know the sound is different.

And then, there are others -- and we appear to be very much in the minority on this forum -- who didn't like JSS.

I didn't care for him with Journey at all. I thought he missed a lot of high notes, didn't hold notes long enough, and in general, didn't sound Journey-like. I didn't care for his stage presence and the faces he makes when he sings did nothing for me. I also didn't like his looks. He tried very hard and I do believe he has a lot of talent. It's just not my cup of tea.

There are concert reviews on the official Journey site on the tour page. And there are clips of JSS singing all over this forum. You can judge for yourself and see what your opinion is. I hope you enjoy him.

Hey siobhan222.

I figured JSS doesn't have the range to sing with Journey,My take on this is.The one who's gonna be the lead singer of Journey.
Must have the range as Bobby Kimball or Tommy shaw,Those 2 has kept that Perry's lost sad enough......Range in their sing voices.

Hello aorfreak.
JSS is a strong vocalist with a great range and can sing so many styles of music. Plus, he has great chemistry with Neal and Deen. I can really see just from the setlist changes recently that they are enjoying what Jeff can do. Journey needed someone to pull them out of their current mess and Jeff could be the talent they need to help them do that. It's clear they aren't retiring, at least not yet, so Jeff has stepped their game up considerably!

Perry didn't sound Journey like when he came to the band. He's totally different than Rolie, he created his own sound with the band. Some arguements against JSS are just silly. You can't convince people that JSS isn't good for the band or in it, when you are biased towards another singer, or don't like his looks...

Hello Eighty Rock,I,m in no way doubt on JSS as a singer. But JSS has a somewhat rough but good voice,You know Journeys trade mark is the very high clean almost falsetto singing,That Perry was able to do in the past.I don't know if Augeri was able to do that ever.

I'm sure i'm rambling alot of crap,But to bring justice to Journeys songs you gotta have a singer with some range.

it is indeed. More people need to focus on the SINGING, than on looks or bias, dontcha think?

Ok, I know you think JSS looks good, I won't get down on ya for that one, journeygal.

Soto has range. Plenty of range to cover the Journey hits. Hell, he's been singing them for years. Nobody, I repeat, nobody is gonna sing Journey tunes anywhere close to Perry, so people need to accept that and let the band do what they do. They've been the "listen to this guy, he's Perry with a perm" route and look where THAT ended up? The idea that these songs have to be "covered" in the same manner that Perry did them is ridiculous because nobody can do that. Augeri certainly didn't do it and nearly ruined himself trying. Soto is a perfect fit, an energetic, capable frontman who will do this band serious justice. I hope more than ANYTHING that they get their arses in a studio after the tour and write something together and start playing it.

That's true. Perry had a completely different sound than Rollie. BUT .. and this is a very huge but ... Journey's sound wasn't established at that point. For one thing, they had only been around a few years. With Rollie, they had a small following and toured a lot. Perry established the "Journey sound" that hit the airwaves bigtime and made them superstars. And that was about 26 years ago. It's tough to re-establish a sound for a band after that much time. Imagine Aerosmith, U2, The Rolling Stones, trying to bring forth a new sound at this point. It's hard to accept.

I didn't try to convince anyone that JSS isn't good for the band because I don't like his looks or I'm biased towards another singer. There you go again whocares ... always misquoting me. Please stop misquoting me. Quote what I say. It's getting really annoying. Of course, that may be your intent.

I'm not sure it's so much "range" as "style" ... or at least that's in my opinion. JSS does have a range and a good one. But his style is very different from the Journey-style Steve Perry set. Now, I don't honestly think many singers have had Steve Perry's unbelievable range to be honest. I can't think of any ... maybe Freddie Mercury had as amazing a range but again, a very different "style".

Hey perryfaithful,I don't think i've followed Journey
as you have.As far as my knowledge with Augeri,
It's somewhat limited except for a cople of songs. But if Perry could rejoin with a full voice it would be nice.
