This tour sucks

Postby Blueskies » Sun Jul 16, 2006 7:40 am

Who agrees with me that Journey with JSS sucks! Saw them from the 3rd row in Tampa. This guy forgot lines in most of the songs, no high notes, dropped notes, cut things short, and put no emotion into the music. He did try to interact with the guys on stage but there was no response and no eye contact, except by Neil a couple of times. The band looked like they were just going through the motions, even Ross only grinned once and did not play around at all. For those of you ready to slam me, go for yourself and judge for yourself, but I'd rather have my money back.If you've went and liked it, good, I hope they improve along the way, because they can only go up from the mess I saw. IMO

Considering what has been happening with Journey the past couple months, I'd say they have had alot on their minds lately, wouldn't you? Jon always looks like he just ate a prune onstage. Neal just wants to play. He doesn't care how you or anybody else view his facial expressions. If that weren't the case, he would have chucked his monkey-mouth impression and head bobbing years ago! :D (Anybody got any photos or video of THAT?) Ya'll know what I'm talking about!
I 've seen reviews that suggest they were energized, Soto was spot on, and Neal was smiling ear to ear. With Soto's talent, I doubt they'll have as many nights "going through the motions" as they did previously.

I am betting that like always, Deen is singing the high notes. He's been doing that for years. His range/ability is just right to get PerryPrime. Nothing new here folks, not the dreck you're looking for, move along  (shameful Jedi misquote)

Exactly... you've read reviews. I'm talking about what I saw up close myself, so this is my review, with just my honest opinion. Don't hate JSS, did'nt know who he was before this concert, therefore I have no animosity towards the guy. I wish him the best because he came into a difficult situation, so props for that, but it still was'nt good.

Only thing i noticed is on the Only the Young clip, in the chorus, Deen's singing high and Jeff's singing the mid range.

Which is probably how they've always done it, so who cares. It sounds good.

It's not that he needs help, it's just the way the band has been doing the songs for the last 8 years. It's a trade thing that Deen would do with any singer for the songs. I've heard JSS doing 4 Journey songs where he sang with the vocaless masters @ JC's studio and they were hot

The reviews are very much against you're opinion Voicelover! Response is overwhelmingly positive!

1st of all, Gary states he is a friend of JSS, no bias there. 2ndly the reviewers usually state they were already a fan of JSS, no bias there either. I on the other hand had never heard him or of him before this, therefore going in I did not have an opinion of JSS one way or the other. Just telling ya how I saw it.

Big J is right... I guess the overall sound will maybe be "beefier" now... JSS maybe singin more "mid range" and Castro chiming in with the soaring harmonies, and any notes that are outta reach for JSS

Pretty much the same as it was with Steve A then !!!!!!!!

Oh by the way, my son was with me and he loved Journey's set but hated DL. So it just goes to show that we all have to make jugdements for ourselves. Next time I'll try having alot of drinks so I'll love everybody and not be so critical :D

JSS is a good singer, but from what i've heard from the songs, and watching him on stage - they don't look like Journey (not even sounding too much like them) because SA was the frontman for years it took aages to swallow by many, and I am thinking Steve Augeri will be back after watching the clip of Only The Young, theres only one true Journey frontman and thats actually Steve Perry.

Perry is and always will be Journey in my eyes.

is it just me TVL, or is it that the dudettes are having more difficulty accepting jss than the dudes? augeri has the moves and the pipes (or once did) and has fan sites (women) all about him. jss is more for the guys?? i dig his style, i havent seen a live show yet. maybe ill ponder some more on this and edit.

Well I'm a dudette and JSS is 10X more appealing to me than SA is/was. His voice is better and from the short clips I've seen his stage presence is better and he's definitely better on the eyes...and that would be only my opinion, of course. ;) I'm sure there are others who would say the opposite.

But as appealing as JSS is, I still prefer Perry.

Time for another Reality Check.........Liz, a regular poster here, also attended the Tampa concert, and had a very different take than you do........So you are entitled to your own opinion, but that doesn't neccessarily mean you are the be all end all when it comes to proclaiming whether a concert was good or bad.

Liz is an upstanding poster, so I think I'll believe her. And stop attempting to cause trouble where there is none.

OOOOHHH! So sorry but I guess your friend is the be all and end all. Again you are taking someones opinion, you don't have to agree with mine. Just stating mine is all. How in the world is that causing trouble? If I did'nt want to be able to form my own opinions and be a sheep, I would have started posting at that other site. :D

JSS seems to have a pretty high range from what I've heard on the Soul CD and other stuff he's done. Even the boots as bad as the quality is showcase his ability sing the highs.

As for forgetting words, etc., it could happen when you're freaked out and jump into a spot with hardly time to work out with the band. Bigger names that Journey's lead singer have forgotten words during live concerts.

Ah, but here we go, into the depths... :)

God, I wish Perry would start singing again. At least then we'd have an equal amount of acrimonious threads bagging on him for his lack of ability to hit the highs and how he just doesn't have the energy he used to have and blah, blah, blah...

I seem to remember you liked to rag on Perry...posting page after page of the same stuff over and over and over again. Kinda like you are doing now. Everybody was talking about Soto and Journey until you came in and started this crap again. Seems like you are the one that can't let it go. You keep coming back to this forum even after an absence and shout the same thing. We get it. You don't like Steve Perry anymore, if you ever did. Move on. Have you seen a Journey show with JSS yet?

Exactly. Augeri messed up the lyrics to a couple of tunes both of the first two times I saw them, in '98 and again in '99. Singers do it all the time.
