Charlotte, NC July 15th Concert review

Postby DerriD » Sun Jul 16, 2006 3:11 pm

To all Augeri fans, of which I consider myself one, it is time to accept the reality that he is gone. Not coming back, end of story. Jeff is the new singer, done deal. Jeff did a tremendous job tonight. Not as Perryish as Augeri, but a great vocalist nonetheless. If anyone thinks this is a temporary move, don't fool yourself. Soto has this gig for as long as he wants it.

Now for the concert highlights. No songs at all from Generations, Arrival or Trial By Fire. The only straying from the "Hits" package was Chain Reaction. Otherwise it was all Greatest Hits material. When the show was over, wanna guess who got the greatest applause?...Dean did. Not even close. He sang Open Arms and Faithfully and blew the lid off both of them.

Overall a great show. Def Lep was great too. Actually even better than Journey. Fantastic visual show. If you have been on the fence, go and see this show. Well worth the price of admission.

Sounds great! Do you remember the setlist from the show? Are they still playing Line of Fire and Dead or Alive?

They played Dead or Alive. Sorry to have not included that one in the non greatest hits line up. Great to hear that one.

Interesting. On the audio boot doing the rounds the previously noisey audience was fairly indifferent when JSS announced that Deen was going to sing. It sounded like some let the air out of thier collective tyres!

He did do a good job though and was suitably applauded at the end. I personally thought this was the best he has sounded, huskier and less raspy than on some previous outings.

Glad you had a great time!

Wonderful! Thanks for your review DerriD.....

As for Soto not being as "Perryish" as Augeri, that is OK with me. I am happy to hear that Soto is his OWN MAN!!

damn, these guys had better come back around to me

Good review. It's obvious that Steve A is not coming back. A lot of people are still in denial that Jeff is in and Steve is out.

simply a friggin' incredible show on both parts! and i agree anyone hanging on to the hope steve is coming back, they are in for a letdown.JMO! i have seen both of these bands probably 10 times each over the years and last night was the best of both.do wish they would have each played about 20 more minutes.other than that best 75 bucks i have spent for a concert. i was on 13th row and sound, etc. was awesome.really wish i could see them again

What goes around, comes around.

I agree that Augeri's departure is a finale.

The, ahem, other board will get to know how the previous-member fans felt when they were disallowed from posting threads about past Journey subjects in 'The Big Kahuna'. Not that they will follow their own rules...

All right, as one who has been off the boards for quite some time and only recently came back to discover that Augeri had been replaced "temporarily," what is it that makes you think that Augeri has truly been ousted from the band? Is it just a feeling that settled in on you, or something else entirely?

As much as I liked Augeri, I've always felt (and stated it many times way back when) that the guys should have gone with a guy who had a harder edge to his voice than Augeri did/does. It would have given them much more flexibility than I think they have had over the last few years.

Hey Z...irrespective of what anyone says, I think you should keep your signature just as it is! She's (hardly) wearing a phenomenal costume. Then again, I'm not the owner/moderator of this board, so if you have to resize it, then so be it. Just wanted you to know that I appreciate it.

Call it a hunch. You've got Steve A. fighting something for a while now. Something that is not getting better, but seemingly worse. You've got statements from Neal about 'being where the ROCK is.' He's worked with Soto before who makes no secret about Journey being a dream gig. Now they have a singer with a harder edge that they can transition into a slightly harder sounding setlist. You've got Deen who can sing the ballads that are expected of the group. The need for Augeri to even come back is getting less and less. The longer Soto is in, the slimmer the odds of Augeri coming back. Not to mention that Soto writes much more than Augeri and writes more harder edge material.

If Augeri isn't back by the end of the tour, there's no chance. I doubt there's much chance already.
