It's time.

Besides, Journey needs new fans

That might be fun. Imagine having PERRY as one of the judges!

If Augeri can't recover, then I think they will be needing a new singer. Afer listening to the bootleg of the Atlanta show, I don't think JSS can cover the hits consistently night after night, year after year. He is so clearly straining his voice, that it won't be long before he's out of commission too.

Then what makes you think some amateur on a reality show can do any better than Steve or Jeff?

Anyone considering this would take a look at the train wreck that is RockStar 2006 and wisely choose not to go down that path.

If the show had ANY credibility to start with, it's losing it quicker than the supply of hair wigs backstage at a Dokken concert.

You are so right, but being in the business as long as he has I think he knows it too and will opt out of joining the band if asked, unless they do new stuff, but that still would not work because to be called JRNY you have to have that sound and sing the hits.

i guess that's why they waited for all those years for mr. perry.

Well, maybe someone would show up whose natural range is able to sing like this -- like Perry did when he was young. I'm not trying to dis' JSS at all. I just feel the Journey catalog is a killer for any vocalist who is not naturally able to sing in that range.

You know, this scenario reminds me of the situation that occured with Judas Priest. If I remember correctly, didn't they "replace" Halford with a guy who was the frontman for a Judas Priest tribute band? The dude won over critics with his ability to essentially "channel" Halford's voice on stage. I don't recall all the specifics, but I remember the movie "Rock Star" was loosely based on it.

I guess my point is that there are probably a ton of people who will never be discovered who are phenomenal singers in their own right. Many of rocks vocal "gods" came from nowhere with little or no training.

Absolutely. Can you imagine if Clay Aitken made a reality show comeback and took up the mantle of Journey's new lead singer!

No kidding! I can't believe those are the "best" singers out there! Not sure if you know who Chris Daughtry is, but he is the rocker who came in 4th on American Idol last season. He has a phenomenal powerhouse voice and was rejected from Rock Star INXS. Who the heck is screening these people!

I have the same problem you guys have with Rock Star. They keep saying these are the best unsigned rockers on the planet, but I can list at least 4-5 vocalists in my area alone that are ten times better than these people.

Who should be nothing more than a stand-in. I heard the boots. Sounds nothing like Journey. Not a good fit.

Och well, if Jeff's voice goes he can mime to one of the Steves voices. That'll keep you all going.

Ugghhh....Please no "Rock Star" fill ins for this band. The universe is small enough to find someone suitable as it is, the band needs no publicity stunt. However, that's jumping the gun anyway. In my opinion, I would hope that the band regroups after this tour and decides whether to continue on with Augeri and record another record or take an extended leave of absence.

What about JSS, J?

You feel they could make it work w/ him if Augeri's done permanently?

There's no telling....I would not understand why, with Jeff as the permanent fill-in, they would not just call themselves something else. I mean, Bad English didn't call themselves Journey... Journey seems intent on touring yearly in order to bring in $$, and without the Journey sound, it would be so vastly different I think they'd have a tough time sustaining interest. I don't know, it's hard to talk about without worrying that people think I have an agenda.

I guess what I don't understand is, how people can be happy that Augeri "helped carry on the Journey name", but not JSS. I thought it was about carrying on the music, not that every singer after Perry had to either look like him or sing exactly like him, or both. I like that Jeff is singing HIS style, and not helping to ruin his own voice. I'd think that might be important to people these days, but perhaps not.

Here, Here!

I listened to the JSS Boot, I enjoy it enough. I found there really is a magic to the songs regardless of who is singing. But if Journey wants to be Journey, I think it is important to sound like Journey. JSS sounds OK, but not Journey enough for me. I will still go see them in August and I am sure I will enjoy myself. But I would like to see Steve back, or Journey take a break. If Steve cannot go on, take a long break and see if there is someone else out there with the right sound.

Maybe next year will see JRNY instead of JOURNEY. Would that be enough of a change to allow a different sound of the classic songs?
