Good career move for JSS or no?

Boy o boy.... a week is a long time in the world of the "rock singer" innit guys n gals :?

Hero for steppin into the breach...then villain...after the bootleg !!

Im beginning to think that Jrny should have payed Leppard...and cancelled their remaining shows.... after all they did have a valid excuse!! Think JSS has stormed in too quickly...yeah...hes prob tryin to do a good friend a real favour... but in doing so he is doing himself no favours (sorry guys..thats the Brit spelling of favor...lol)

JSS must surely have crooned to these tracks in the privacy of his own shower room many times..he knows exactly which tracks are comfortable and which not...and if he doesnt..hes a fool!! In JSS shoes..I would have insisted on a minimal "down tune" ..for f**ks sake...thats the least they coulda done.

Im beginning to think that the lead singer spot in Journey will become about as appetising a job as the England football Coach (you gotta be English to appreciate that comment...sorry!!)
JSS should "bale" ASAP.. he should be honest... probably more honest than Steve A became...and look where it got poor ole Stevie
I wld respect JSS more if he walked away... but I guess its a matter of professional pride... but is it worth it...what you think guys??

Neil

This is why Monker and others were insisting that bootlegs are proof of nothing. Everyone's thrilled until they hear a bootleg.

Quite the opposite is the case in reality... a bootleg is proof of everything.. no overdubs..no "tarting" up or tweaking....

It is...as it is !! :?

Like I said before, Pee Wee Herman could be up there and they would give him rave reviews.

Alex.. you do have an agenda...you are by yr own admission...his webmaster on the JSS site!!!! you have posted yr "advert" for him in several threads now.... in which you say he has been "blowing out" his voice on sessions! Why in the world would he choose to sing "those songs in that set" if his voice is "blown out" as you admit???

Im not saying he cant sing...he patently can..and is very good...but not in these keys...with these songs..Jeez your close to him...please tell him to get those bone idle band members of his to tune down a semi tone!!!

JSS is a great singer. Just had a bad night, and his voice may not really fit well. The harder ones sound good.

HORRIBLE career move for him. If he could sing the songs, it would've been good, but he can't so it's not. I think that as the word gets out, it will be detrimental to his career, especially in the states where nobody knows him. If I were him, I'd either:

1) get the band to lower the songs
2) take some time off to rest my voice
3) tell Journey they're on their own

I mentioned in another thread BEFORE hearing the boot, that while this could be a great thing for Joureny it might NOT be the best thing for JSS. Even if Journey are willing to finally go in a new direction, that does not mean JSS will want to give up his other projects to make Journey a priority. And he might not want to continue pushing himself the way the music dictates. There could certainly be some benefits for JSS in Journey, but are they the ones he wants...or are they worth other concessions?

I agree after listening to his recorded stuff that ha's a good singer, but he just does not fit in JRNY. It's been more then one bad night also. I'm feelin bad for the guy really and give him props for steppin in but now he's gotta think about his self and his future.

Try to see it in the right proportions... all I'm telling you is he would sound lots better if he knew in advance he was gonna tour and gave his voice the rest it needs before a major tour like this.

Honest to God, this bootleg posting is causing more problems than it's worth for whatever enjoyment is gleaned.

Agreed. Now we know why bands hate them so much.

A bootleg is only proof that the person recording it, is getting what is coming from the sound system, no other proof. Anything can happen before your ears/recording device "hear" it.

So very true....JSS is about a week in and COMPLETELY written off in some circles as a bust/disaster/another blown out voice/ect.

NIG, holy shit, you're right man. It does suck doesn't it. I'll leave my final opinion lay until seeing the show Saturday in Indy. However, if I'm gonna be as pissed off as I think, I'm glad I cashed in my $1100 VIP tickets for 4 lawn seats. Talk to you Sunday.

L8r,

Aaron

What are you all smokin :?: Of course this is a good move. Everybody who thinks it isn't needs to ask WWJD and get on with their lives because this tour rocks with a R

The above post is hilarious.

Detrimental to his career? This is the greatest thing that ever happened to his career. He is getting publicity UP THE ASS, and that is supposed to be detrimental? He has three favorite singers (Cooke, Mercury, Perry), and he has JOINED the band of one of those singers. It's a friggin DREAM COME TRUE! Even if he leaves the band after the tour, he has exposed himself to THOUSANDS of new fans! It's a win-win situation for him!!!

He doesn't need anybody to play the songs in a different key. This guy sang every QUEEN song at the Queen fan club, and it sounded fantastic! Some of Freddie's music is MUCH HARDER TO SING than Journey's music, and JSS did it EXTREMELY WELL!!!

Why should he take a break from singing? It's HIS CAREER!! He SINGS FOR A LIVING! Maybe he's not LAZY like most workers out there... maybe he DOESN'T WANT TO CALL IN SICK, maybe he WANTS TO WORK!! Is that something too difficult to figure out?

He's given the brass ring... sink or swim, and you want him to tell Journey they're on their own? WTF?

You know, you just can't satisfy every Journey fan. It would be easier to get Yngwie to slow down... it AINT GONNA HAPPEN. It's damned if you do, and damned if you don't. You get a Perry soundalike, and the Perry fans rage. You get someone who has his own style, and the others say he doesn't sound enough like Perry.

Here's what has happened: Journey has picked an awesome singer, and I hope to God he stays in the band and wins over the nay sayers, and that he records an album with them. I can't wait to hear some studio work from the boys!!!!

If I paid $1100 to see Journey in 2006, I'd no doubt be pissed off, too!

Did you HEAR the recordings?? They're absolutely horrible. I don't care if he sounds like Perry or not. He sounds like Sh*t! Listen to the Be Good To Yourself recording then tell me you don't think this guy's in over his head. Listen to the Atlanta boot and say it. The guy is NOT able to sing this high stuff. His voice will be added to the toast pile if he doesn't stop. Doesn't matter who your favorite singers are... doesn't mean you can sing like them!

It would only be a good career move if JSS was nailing each performance. Again, most concert fans aren't part of this board or the 'other board', so they may not have heard of (or care to) the boots. Their one and only impression will be that concert they've paid to see/hear. Is it Soul Sirkus part deux or Journey? I don't really want "Journey" to disappear and become Soul Sirkus II, and I don't think the vast majority of fans who pay for concert tickets do either. They want the dirty dozen. That's why they stand and go crazy when they are played.

I'm more concerned with the 'blown voice' already. How can he possibly do any justice to the songs or the band if he's not in 100%? That will hurt him in the long run. Journey fans have an expectation on vocals & music when they go to shows. A blown out voice isn't going to help at all.

But then again...they aren't using tapes now. That to me, was a far worse offense than a singer whose vocals are rough.
