There's one Journey album that JSS could sing from...

Beginning to end and that would be Trial By Fire. There's really nothing vocally challenging on that album. Plus there are some gems like Can't Tame The Lion that I think JSS would absolutely NAIL.

Yeah, Perry intentionally strayed from writing songs in the same range as the earlier stuff. He still got up there, but it wasn't as high as "Escape" or something like that.
Unfortunately TBF is also pretty boring, so maybe it's better they stay away from it.

For me, TBF is their best album.

The only song that really stuck with me is the Japanese bonus track I downloaded back in the Napster days. Go figure.

Me too. I'd love to hear JSS belt out One More and Castles Burning.

You have to admit, there is no solid fan connection to the songs on TBF and any specific vocalist. We have the Perry recorded vocals, but they were never sung live by him. He never really made those songs his to the Journey audience. Steve sang them a few times, but again, never really did it enough to establish a fan connection to them. So why not let JSS sing a bunch of them?

No, I wouldn't admit that at all, 28. WYLAW was played ALOT on the radio. At least I remember it where I lived then. It has Perry's signature all over it. Not as much as the dirty dozen, though. I'll give ya that. I just wish they'd write their own stuff together.

28 is right....there is no fan connection to this album. If they are going to play these songs, they might as well play something pre or post Perry....

Its funny with TBF, its really an album which has fans divided. Personally, I love it. Perhaps too many songs for one album, but many of them are excellent. I particularly like Trial by Fire, One More, Message of Love, If He Should Break Your Heart and Can't Tame The Lion.
To my mind the album has a very smooth feeling which is nice to be able to tap into. And the musicianship is just stellar, even progressive in some places. You get the feeling that these guys are masters at their craft, even if a couple of songs are a bit formulaic.
Soto definitely should take the songs on (true, he would nail CTTL!).

Message of Love and When You Love a Woman are awesome but for me One More is the worst Journey song ever written. Its pure Stilton!

Perhaps they are trying a little bit to hard to stray off the ballad track with that one, but I really like the intro, and the chorus works for me.

The music is okay, its the lyrics for One More which I find cringeworthy. Can't like everything I guess...

I must agree with you there. I feel tempted to quote the character Drum Eatenton (Tom Skerritt) from the movie Steel Magnolias: "An ounce of pretention is worth a pound of manure"

I never liked that one either...
TBF is all right, but the songs are just borderline too religious for what I like to hear in rock music. OM and TBF (the song) especially.

I have to agree with that but i also feel ROR was just as good.

ROR is better than TBF to me, but not by a whole lot. Neither of those get many spins from me. At least ROR has GCHI, ROR, and Suzanne. The only song I like on TBF is Message of Love. JSS would sound good on that one.

Yes, I can definitely see some of the religious overtones there, however, I think they fortunately lend room for interpretation (while I don't like the OM lyrics, the TBF lyrics have their moments (although I simply don't get the "hello mr. moon" bit)).
In fact, the OM lyrics actually remind me of something pseudo Iron Maiden or something like that. Its like they are trying to point the finger at certain religious interpretations ("Wicked prophets kill while speaking his name"/"holy vengeance is the justice of hell"). However, thats the upside with this type of lyrics, the interpretation window has space.
Take a song like Dio's Holy Diver, the fact that this is a song bashing religious extremism took a look at the album cover for me to realise

I think ROR wins out with me as well if I had to choose. It has as many great tunes on it as TBF (faves are The Eyes of a Woman, Girl Can't Help It, Raised on Radio, Why Can't This Night Go On Forever), and there are fewer fillers.
