Just for fun: put a chick on lead

I thought of this last night, and a post by Tragchk (I think) reminded me about it.
Going way off on a tangent... and this is just for fun, mind you... if Journey was fronted by a female lead, who do you think it should be?

Just off the top of my head, I think Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde) has a heckuva voice and could pull it off.

I had thought of that possibility also, but I don't really want that.

A young female vocalist could probably handle the vocal range of Journey songs pretty well. but I don't want people thinking that Journey is some wimp band because their definitely NOT.

Most non-fans already think that of Journey regardless.

This is MY idea. Tragchick ripped it from me.

OK, sorry I missed that... who would you put up front?

I thought Linda Perry, but I'm listening to her live right now and changed my mind. There would be a fan-riot if they billed as "Journey with Perry" and she came out instead.

That is ture. What if then i say what about Joan Jett she could rock and they do have some rock heard music. I don't know if she would be good on "Open Arms" Some girl can't think of her frist name but the last name is Ford.

There was speculation at one time about Patty Smyth, probably because Scandal did "Only the Young". Nice version, but not lead singer for Journey Material.

And PLEASE not Lori Morgan, Damn she butchered Faithfully.

You think so? I thought she was awesome on it. A Helluva lot better than the last guy who sang it regularly.

I was thinking,

Shania Twain, Jodee Messina, ...nah, too nice

Then I thought of....Kelly Clarkson. Got a great voice, a rough edge when needed, hot as hell lookin....but then Journey would be crucified.

Stevie Nicks would be great, but she couldn't sing this catalogue...

Come to think of it, maybe a chick would not work. Besides, Neal would never allow it.

I think Ann Wilson could pull it off. She has a great voice.

I'm not sure Deano, I mean yeah, it's more than a nice version, it's actually a great version, and she has the raspiness built in already... Who knows? Haven't heard her sing in a few years though...

pls no country singers, though Shania is more crossover anyway, and she has the whole Mutt Lange connection.

Ya know Rock Fn, that could maybe work. Hell Nancy even could do some of the vocals... talk about a supergroup though.

That would be great, for the BT community. That way, Journey would be putting up a person that mirrored the Heffers over there. Mooooooooooo!

Ann's ass could host a drive in movie theatre screen. No way.

Now Pat Benatar would be even better.

I like JoDee Messina, heard her live and she was incredibly dynamic. Maybe a little too much twang for a Journeyesque lineup but she's pretty good.

Kelly Clarkson would be cool, though I believe you're right about them being crucified. I'd like to hear her cover a Journey song though, just to see if she rocks it or not.

Not too fond of Shania Twain, but that's just me. I may be in the minority.

Ooh, the Wilsons with Journey! Hmm... that's one I hadn't thought of. Interesting.

Annie Lennox? Anyone?

I think...

If they put Kelly Clarkson, or Shania up there, I would do something other than listen to their Boots. I would actually be rubbing one out to Journey! WOOHOO..

Jesus Christ.....

For those wanting to hear Kelly Clarkson cover a Journey song, here she is singing Open Arms with *barf* Clay Aiken *barf* http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=26685F46607D631C.

Who is singing lead? I cannot stand Gay Aiken....however, you can't tell me Kelly Clarkson can't sing. She is very talented.

I've liked Kelly since she was on AI. I think she went over the top with her rendition there, too many inflections (!!!) but she's got pipes. Props, too, for doing her own look and not going with the stereotype.

Jeez... the Claymates were going nuts...

At least SOMEONE knows who Asia is...though on a Journey board I would expect more people to have a clue! ;)

^ Me too. She nails SW(WA) and looks hot too...

I ran across this recently looking for Journey vids. Bob Vose from the band Fortune (from Boston).
He nails these Journey songs, as well as a bunch of Boston, Kansas and Queensryche tunes, among others.

If JSS is strictly temp and SA is indeed out, I'd hope they would give this guy a listen (if not the hot chick from Nexx).

What a voice on this dude!
