Just came across this little gem here. I was wondering what led everyone to believe Steve Perry fired Ross and Smith when this Interview clearly states otherwise. I know its and old and touchy subject, but I really like an explenation here if anyone cares to elaborate.

Steve also states they recorded ROR tour if he or anyone connected to him is reading this please release this. I have been waiting for it for a LONG time.

Thanks.

Jeez, Perry had so much friggin' control it was ridiculous.

Q: Why hasn't Journey had a sponsor on this tour?

A: I personally didn't want to do it. We had every offer from Pepsi to Coca-Cola, and I just didn't feel like doing it right now. I don't exactly feel like being the wrapper that covers the burger. I am a singer. I've worked all my life to be a singer, my life is my voice, my music, my writing--my emotion is tied to that. I don't want to lessen that and, in my opinion, it cheapens my craft to have me be a plain white wrapper around this cheeseburger. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to allow you to stick my fit picture on cans. I have to be true to myself.

Well then if he was not the control freak you say he was....then the band would not have been as big as it was. So just let it go.

Well, he pretty much says so himself on Behind the Music...

There is a ROR documentary out there, but it doesn't have much concert footage on it, unfortunately. mostly interviews, etc.
I'd love to have the full Mountain Air ROR concert on video, if there is such a thing... anyone?

Q: There were many personnel changes over the years with Journey. Did that make their leaving any easier?

A: It made it easier because we cut things much quicker....

lol wasn't this album famous for taking so long?

Sounds like he took one to many pictures and did too many interviews and completely believed he was the burger inside the wrapper or vice versa. There are those times
when you read these interviews and say "geez" well at least I do. It's called getting
full of oneself.

DDY had the same attitude in the 80s. Notice neither care anymore.

Funny how it was always me, my, etc...never "our" ..."my music"???? WTF? what a prick this guy must have been to work with. "His" music was Two and a Half Hits and a Bunch of Unreleased Throwaway Shit, what he calls his music was Journey's music.

Love Perry, but in some of the interviews for ROR he was so obviously on a power trip. In some of them now in retrospect it's pretty apparent that he was on his way to that "nosedive reentry" he talks about too.

I still love the concert footage I've seen from that period though, and ROR is still my second favorite Journey album.

I've got the ROR Doc but it's on vhs and I don't have a way to copy it.

I could keep on rehashing the past, but I'd rather speculate in the present :lol:but have you seen the interview with the guys in Japan at the hard rock. It was during ROR promotion where their all have crocked? Neil talks about how WE as a band made the decision to go without Ross and smitty. Funny interview.

That's only a 1/2 truth. If you've read the Herbie Herbert interviews, Herbie said Perry decided to fire Ross and Smith and NOBODY (except Herbie) had the balls to stand up to him.

In essence, Neal endorse the decision by not standing up to Perry. What a pussy.

Dude, Perry was the voice, the face, the lead representative. He was talking about himself, and the band. The band gives way to let the lead singer be the rep. Look at U2. Why isn't the keyboard player the main man? Look at The E Street band. Why isn't Max Weinberg the lead voice/rep?

Perry led that band, and whil an asshole, led them very well. Augeri didn't lead shit, and Neal led them who knowswhere.

Thats right but if Neil did not agree why is he the one who brought it up in the interview? Tells me a) He agreed to it wholeheartedly b) Is an idiot like Herbie believes c) hes a pussy like you said

Q: You produce Journey, you're the voice of Journey, what is it you are able to do on your solo albums that you are not able to do musically with Journey?

A: It's really not easy to put into words, because it's just two different things. I have more control on my solo albums, but I don't really like to have that. I like to let the people I work with come up with a lot of the strength and te options--in that order--for me to be able to make a st work weigh together creative people and we worked well together.

BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA.... best laugh I've had in a week! Interesting what time and distance do to clarifying things... LOL...

Fun read, thanks! *giggle*
