Journey re-releases

Postby Angiekay » Thu Jul 20, 2006 1:23 am

Updated versions of five Journey albums will be out August 1st. Working separately, the band and former lead singer Steve Perry have overseen new versions of 1978's Infinity, 1979's Evolution, 1980's Departure, and 1981's Escape, as well 1988's Greatest Hits collection.

The best-of set now includes the song "When You Love A Woman" from the 1996 album Trial By Fire, while Departure has two bonus tracks -- a live version of the B-side "Natural Thing," and the song "Little Girl" from the Dream After Dream soundtrack. Escape features four extras -- the B-side "La Raza Del Sol" and live versions of "Don't Stop Believin'," "Who's Crying Now," and "Open Arms" that were originally part of the Live In Houston 1981: The Escape Tour CD/DVD combo

Those live songs fit, b/c they're off ESC4P3, but do a littlw work and find some different versions. Between GLH, the DVD, the CD, the Special Edition DVD/CD we're saturated with these renditions.

Rhino did this w/ Foreigner's reissue of Double Vision, 2 of the live bonus tracks were already available somewhere else.

I think the only one I'll invest in is Departure. (I never got the 1ST remasters.)
I DO think it's pointless to do the Live tracks from the Escape DVD...MOST people who are going to buy it already have it. Throw some old Demos or something in that fans don't have.JESUS. lol.
GH...not even slightly interested. Say it with me... ESSENTIAL JOURNEY. lol

Yea, the most pressing one for me right now is Departure as well.

I won't be buying any re-issues/re-masters because I have them all. Except for Frontiers which is missing for some reason. But I'll have to wait for THAT one to be re-re-issued.

How'd I get two greatest hits, but missing my Frontiers CD? :x

I have two, Maryland, which has a bad spot in it, then Nakano Sun Plaza. I have been trading for a couple of years, and you wouldn't believe what I have on audio/video. :D

LOL... and since I invested in the remasters 10 years ago (which thus put the entire Journey collection in my possession for the first time) the only thing I'm remotely interested in would be the live version of "Natural Thing", and I can wait for it to hit iTunes. ;) And anyone know if the version of "La Raza del Sol" is different from the one on Time3? I'd consider getting GH since that's the only one I don't have in a "remastered" version having purchased it way back in 89, but (a) I can burn my own CD for less, (b) GH lives at my office for those days when I am too stressed to think straight, and (c) as noted, Essential Journey is more complete if I want a GH package. (Of course, I didn't bother to buy EJ for reason (a) above! LOL!) Maybe some good meaning, but dim witted, friend or relative will get it for me as a gift! LOL! :D

If anyone DOES get these, would really love to know if the sound is all that much improved from the originals and/or the '96 remasters...

I just KNOW some moron friend of mine is gonna buy me the remastered Escape and say "Hey man...this just came out today so I knew you didn't have it". Then I'll have to show them the 8-Track, 4 LPs, 3 Cassettes, 1CD, and the DVD. LOL (Those were just the ones I'VE bought over the years...I COULD go into my brothers' AND sister's collection and get more Escape albums. HAHA)

What I am missing from my Journey cd collection is the first three albums. I have all of them on vinyl, but I don't have a turntable to play them on ! :D
