Why Does He Do It?

Postby Blueskies » Thu Jul 20, 2006 4:40 am

Why does Steve Perry agree to work on re-releases and DVD's? Just something I been thinking about. He could just be doing it because the record company is going to release them so he wants to have artistic control of how they sound ( which is probably why, but I will continue on here with my speculation ). I don't think it's for the money cause Herbie stated "SP has more money than God". Of course he could always want more but he has lucrative businesses and holdings. He's stated that he wants to" fight for the songs", he wants to protect the bands legacy (I'm sure that this is true also ). My question is this : Maybe he wants to help Neil, Jon and Ross in some way? I think he's spent alot of time reflecting and has been apologetic for mistakes he's made at times. Like admitting firing Ross and Smitty for ROR was a mistake ( there are other examples ). Everytime there's a re-release or DVD release it helps JRNY's ticket sales -So why does he do it if he hates the guys so much?

Because he's addicted to baseball. He doesn't sit in the cheap seats ya know. Not every club gives him free publicity or seats at their games like the White Sox did. You know there's one thing about addicts, they can never get enough.

And yes, it benefits HIM to help the others out in SOME way.

Oh yeah, and because he can.

Actually thevoicelover, I don't think it has a thing to do with helping the others. I don't think it's just for the money either. I think it has more to do with keeping Journey's, and therefore his, true legacy alive.

I'm pretty sure it's just for money.

If Perry was really concerned about a) the legacy or b) doing something for the fans, he would've put wayyyy more effort into the bonus tracks on the reissues. The Houston DVD was awesome, and I commend him for that, but these re-releases of the albums sound like there was barely any thought to them.

I've got almost all of the Yes reissues from 2003, and each album has a ton of bonus material, sometimes nearly doubling the length of the original album. Sure, it's "fans only" stuff, but hearing alternate versions of some of the songs and b-sides and whatnot made the purchases downright essential. A little effort on Perry's part could've made these Journey reissues just as cool, but it just feels like he's being really lazy to me rather than jumping at the opportunity to get some cool stuff out there from the vaults.

I think it's to put his name in the "limelight" every so often to keep the fans clamoring for more and questioning things like "Oh my God...is Perry coming back again???" It get's people saying "THIS is how Journey should sound now so bring him back". IMO
Oh yea...and Money. LOL.

I like the debates, but I enjoy the funny responses the most

I agree that it's mostly about legacy.
