Let's Have Your Nightmare Setlist:

Postby Red13JoePa » Fri Jul 21, 2006 12:40 am

Moi?

City Of The Angels (Just bad)
Daydream (huh?)
Can Do [(See what happens when you let Valory sneak (R, not D. Valory) into a writing session?]
Velvet Curtain (pppfffffttttt)
Why Can't This Night Go On Forever? (Thank Christ it didn't)
Escape (kinda trite, plus victim of setlist cement)
Don't Be Down On Me, Baby (Why? Why the word "Baby?")
Easy To Fall (Easy to write, in a big hurry. Hard to mask that fact)
ROR (Again, place in the hackneyed title track bucket)
Any Of Those Damn Mowtown Covers From The ROR Tour (abominations, one and all)
Lifetime Of Dreams (Main Offense being the lyric "Baby" after "When I Look In Your Eyes")
When You Love A Woman (Jonathan, wasn't this one of the "most played songs of 1997 and nominated for a grammy?" Think I heard that disclaimer at a show or 60 when this was played)
All The Way (kinda eh...but singlehandedly dragged onto the list and doomed by the couple in the 2001 dvd)

Time's yours.
"I love almost everybody."---Rocky Balboa 1990
"Let's reform this thing.Let's go out and get some guys who want to work and go do it"--Neal Schon February, 2001
"I looked at Neal, and I just saw a guy who really wants his band back"-JCain 2/01

I love all three of those tunes. I love the staccato-style solo by Neal in "City of the Angels". "Escape" is one of my favorite Journey tunes and I think "Why Can't This Night Go on Forever" is a very underrated ballad. I pretty much agree with the others, though.

I still sorta like the title track of ROR, but then it seems like such a by-numbers dissapointment from Neal's perspective. Seems like he picked mid 80's rock riff 101 and connected the dots. Phoned his guitar in on that one. Good vocal and melody from Perry.

I like ROR live because of Randy's bass solo.

I bet Ross could do a great bass solo, with those faces and that squirty thang, it would be riot.

Damn, did not recall "Do You Recall" for obvious reasons.

I'm personally vetoing your selection of When I Think Of You, AFI b/c it IS SP's tribute to his late mom and when viewed through that lens I think it's a good song. Good on the whole band for letting it happen.

That's fine, but I do not want to hear it played in a concert set.

I agree, OYLS is my favorite ROR track. Didn't know they didn't play it, what a shame.

I was in Europe and missed that tour, so I only have a few boots to go by.

If they played any of those, I'd love to hear it. I think they stuck to Suzanne, ROR, IBAWY, and CGHI. All GREAT choices except ROR.

Think about how much more ass "Frontiers" would have kicked if they had left that out and instead included "Only the Young" or "Ask the Lonely" or both, for that matter.

Methinks the "jellyroll love" is a code reference to Dunbar's favorite pasttime and undoing: young skirt chasing.

Man, Raised on Radio is one of my all time favorite Journey tunes. I loved all the references to those that've come before. In fact, it's my favorite song off that album. It's weird how music can appeal to everyone differently. Cool.

Mine would be:
Positive Touch (reminds me of the Cheers theme)
Can Do (dumb lyrics)
Back Talk (just kind of dumb)
The one they played in Tron- Forgot the name, it was a B-side of something... (Only Solutions??)
Keep on Runnin (cliche' lyric)
All the Way (yawn)

Only Solutions rocks. Love it.
Keep On Runnin' ? You gotta be KIDDING ME. I see the cheesy lyric angle and apostrophes in titles add to that but it just rocks so

When I hear lyrics like "Keep on Runnin', Keep on Hidin'" I just cringe. Runnin' and Hidin's been used in SOOO many songs...
also "It's okay it's alright, It's okay it's alright, and if it makes you wanna jump and shout, go ahead"
ICK!

I DO like the way Perry sings it though.

  • Can Do - terrible song, though I love Neal's solo
  • Just the Same Way - what a boring riff
  • Homemade Love - again, love Neal's playing but...come on!
  • Back Talk - the guitar is smokin' but the lyrics are horrible at best
  • Positive Touch - worse than most of Perry's solo material
  • Don't Be Down on Me Baby - terrible other than Neal's playing
  • All the Way - formulaic power ballad
  • All the Things - Kudos for trying something different but it doesn't work
  • Lifetime of Dreams - see description of "All the Way"
  • Gone Crazy - Sounds like Van Halen with Billy Gibbons singing lead
