Where's "Distant Voice"? The mysteries need to be

What happened to "the one who knows all and sees all," but can't tell anyone any facts? I mean, sheesh, if Mr. Perry is going to put out another CD, I'd like to know. If he's in the studio now, I'd like to know. If Neal really said something like "I'm glad Steve Perry is in the studio recording another CD," I'd really like to know where he said that. I'd like to add his new CD to my collection. Anyone? Beuhler?

I'll wait...

I doubt he did get banned, because DV has been saying that stuff for ages now... he probably just retreated after Lora's post.

Perry HAS been in the studio. However, as always, it's top fucking secret. My source is Uncle Joe...per e-mail. What "in the studio" means is anyone's guess. I just hope he has it in him (emotionally and vocally) to rid us of the sounds of the last two albums. They were fucking terrible. Well, Arrival was OK....Generations was quite possibly the worst album put out by a great band. It was embarrassing...at best. Perry is not sure that his voice is tour ready...at least as far as Journey goes. Also, he fucking hates the fact that anyone fronted this band after him. A decision will be made soon. He's getting Eagles type-reunion money thrown at him. However, he has enough money to live the life he wants. HOPEFULLY, the FANS win this one and we see the Journey that we all grew up with...the one you hear on the radio. If I had to take a guess, I'd say there's a 70% chance you'll see a Perry-fronted Journey next year....as there should be. How he thinks his voice sounds is the key. This dude is NOT about money.

I agree with St. John, Nig and I don't for a minute doubt that if you get the guys in the studio together, they would be better than ever with a lot of life's experiences to add to the pie. It's what bands do and these guys are ripe for it.

God forbid that we lose one of them but Classic journey won't be long gone until anyone of them is gone. JMHO!

IMO,that would be a bitter-sweet experience,just like TBF was.
I don't doubt the fact that they would do a great album together, but the clashes and the stress would be inevitable.

However, artists sometimes sacrifice themselves for the love of music.

True, who knows exactly what Perry is doing in the studio. He's spent plenty of time in the past working on Journey-related releases.

I just hope he has it in him (emotionally and vocally) to rid us of the sounds of the last two albums. They were fucking terrible. Well, Arrival was OK....Generations was quite possibly the worst album put out by a great band. It was embarrassing...at best.

Totally disagree on the above. I think Generations was infinitely better than Arrival, which only rates a B- by me, but opinions will be opinions.

Perry is not sure that his voice is tour ready...at least as far as Journey goes.

Is that your opinion, or was that part of Lora's post?

Also, he fucking hates the fact that anyone fronted this band after him.

That's been obvious since the day he said "Don't crack the stone." He also said, "There's no coming back" in that same VH-1 rockumentary.

A decision will be made soon. He's getting Eagles type-reunion money thrown at him. However, he has enough money to live the life he wants. HOPEFULLY, the FANS win this one and we see the Journey that we all grew up with...the one you hear on the radio. Okay, the above paragraph, besides your obvious opinion in it, is the rest from Lora, or are you simply basing your opinion on things, with respect to the money that's being thrown at him and a decision being made soon, etc.?

fred_journeyman wrote:I missed Lora's post - what did she have to say (and I'm assuming this is the Lora from Fan Asylum?)?

Well, I'LL answer this then... she basically said, "Really, I hope someone tells me..." in regards to Fan Asylum being the one to break the news about SP's "new album".

HOPEFULLY, the FANS win this one and we see the Journey that we all grew up with...the one you hear on the radio.

The only 'fans' who want to see that at this point are the Perry diehards who still think he's coming back after 8 years. 'Loyal' fans of the BAND will be irritated that the band was fooled TWICE by holding onto SP and they still came back for more. Casual fans of the band will say, "Journey did what? Really, their singer left 8 years ago? Ok. Whatever." It's not going to be some mega-tour of Journey glory.

And same old thing will happen... I predict this now:
Album
Tour for a month
Oh, Perry has bronchitis
Never get west of Virginia
Journey never heard from again

If I'm proven wrong, fine.

I'd have to agree. I cannot imagine Perry coming back to Journey and the band, then going out on a long tour. I could see them getting together for a few concerts, but nothing like the tours they do now. It's beyond the scope of logic, considering how Perry has kept himself totally away from the band for all these years. Even at the WOF, he kept off to the side until it was time to go out and no one even knew he was there. It was obvious from the photos that Neal was very glad to see Steve, but it didn't look like it was reciprocated from Perry.

I'll say this...IF Perry ever came back to Journey, he would thoroughly OWN it. He would call all the shots and the guys wouldn't be able to say "boo." They, in essence, would simply be his backup band. For the life of me though, I cannot see Valory on the same stage with Perry. Not sure how Deen would feel about it either. Can't imagine Smith coming back for it, based on what he's said in the past.

With all these bands though, it's always about the money. The Eagles, Judas Priest and so many others. It's always about how much money can be generated by a mega-tour or a reunion. That's not bad in and of itself. For the Eagles, they seem to have put all their differences behind them and they actually seem to have a mutual respect for one another and defer to one another. I can't imagine this being the case with Journey. It would be about the money and if Perry did come back, it would be about the money for him too. There is no other reason for him to return.

Greatness, or at least the attempt (and IMO getting close) to what they all once were, they all know the secret formula.......

I disagree on a tour not being big, it would be, and it wouldn't have to be long either....the fans would go to them......

I respectfully disagree, Fred. I have no doubt at all that it would be about the music. He doesn't need the money.

Perry's got nothing to prove WITH Journey anymore. Frankly as a Perry era fan and a HUGE Perry fan, I don't want him back in the band. Not for any length of time. Perry can make andy SOLO stuff he does sound like Perry era Journey, but that can't neccesarily be done with the rest of the guys without Perry. He's got the advantage as he has all along.

Allthough I don't believe for a second that he doesn't see what's written on the net anywhere, I picture him sitting back when Lora or anyone else shows him stuff and he's just sitting there soaking it all up, laughing at how people want him back so much. Not only in Journey but solo too. It's good for his ego to know he's still wanted in the fan's eyes.

I don't think Neal would want him back. Maybe for the dough of a big tour, but I can't see the two working together again. If you read Herbert's interviews, he puts out there that Perry was basically untrustworthy when it comes to dealings with the other guys. Maybe unreliable is a better word. With all the stuff that happened, I can't see Neal going to Perry with his hand out. This stuff with Journey right now is pretty much confined to internet chat groups. There are a FEW articles out there raising the speculation, etc., but it's not that big. Fans at the concerts don't even seem to know Perry's not with them anymore. It's really pretty small potatos

Personally, I think it's too easy for ANYONE to sell their soul when they're in the entertainment business, period. It almost ALWAYS comes down to money. Always...and lots of it. Actors will do just about anything to "make it big" in the industry and how many of them have raunchy movies in their past that come to the fore when they DO hit it big? Most actors I've met (and I'm talking about the actors who haven't made it big, but would like more than anything to do so) have only one goal on their mind - get to Hollywood, make it big, earn tons of money - all rolled into one. Because of that, they will do anything it takes to get there, telling themselves that it's "art." Musicians are really no different. Too many of the bands out there are there because they want to make it big. They want the money, the esteem, and everything else that goes with that type of success. Actors and musicians are the first ones to complain once they "make it big" that they no longer have a life anymore. Boo hoo! No one forced them to go into acting or music as a profession.

If Perry came back to Journey, he would be selling his soul too, because he would have absolutely NO reason for coming back. Returning would not be under the best of circumstances for the band; only for him. He would have everything to gain and nothing to lose (unless his voice WAS totally shot, in which case like Elvis' fans, the older he got, the "better" he got). However, if he returned, in his eyes I'm sure he would be returning as the "vanquished king" who was "set aside" while the band went on without him. If he came back, it would be as "victor."

In my opinion, it would be asinine for the band to have him back unless they're willing to be nothing more than paid musicians for "Steve Perry's Journey." So, in essence, Perry's return would be out of ego and nothing else. That said, I cannot imagine Perry giving up his quiet, relatively anonymous lifestyle to get back on stage.
