Journey/Def Leppard in Houston

Hey everyone,
I'm back after a GREAT show last night at the Woodlands rested and recouped. It was hot as all hell out on the lawn...but beer helped me with that. :-)
I was at the beer tent when the singer/songwriter came out and missed 2 of the 3 songs he did, but the last one was cool with Jon Cain on harmonica. Never caught the guys name though.
Neal came out donning that damn purple shirt again and hit the opening note of SSB and it sounded great. Stone in Love was next and I must say, JSS has really come into his own and was completely ON last night. I know my brother said the same about the Dallas show the night before....but DAAAAAMN. AWESOME JOB MAN.
Ask The Lonely, Keep On Runnin' (Very cool) and Wheel in the Sky followed and they had a new energy to them. Neal held a sustain note at the end of Wheel and I knew they were going into the song I've been waiting to see/hear live since '83....EDGE OF THE BLADE. FINALLY. And it was worth the wait. The guitar work was AMAZING. Talk about being euphoric. lol. DEFFINATLY a highlight. The rest of the set was the rest of the "Dozen" with Chain Reaction and Dead Or Alive in there as well. JSS OWNES DOA. So damn good on this song. His stage presence throughout the entire show was great.
Def Leppard came out and did the obligatory Let's Get Rocked as the opener. Kind of boring for me...but the rest of the crowd was lovin' it. Let It Go was played and THAT was a pleasant surprise then on to THEIR dirty dozen with Rock On and No Matter What in the mix. Rocket was awesome with the guitar duel in the middle and the visuals on the screen.
I'm cutting the Def Leppard review short 'cause a lot of y'all don't care on THIS forum. LOL.

All in all...A KICK ASS NIGHT. :-)

Nice review..

was the crowd on its feet all night---or was it too hot being outside and all... ROCK ON and no matter what were the highlights for me during the DEF show.. but yes-- I am not a huge LEP fan!! was it blur --since there was only 80 minutes of music? Thats how the twin cities show felt...

Thanks for the review, Escape79!! I've always stated that they probably should have gone with someone that had a harder edge to his voice and could hit the highs when Perry opted out.

Glad you had fun at the show. They did EDGE of the BLADE? Cool!

As far as JSS goes, I still can't believe he's doing what he's doing and jumped right in with virtually no rehearsal time and had to know - what - 15 songs right out of the shoot?! Great job.

Not a problem for the review.
The crowd on the lawn wasn't on it's feet the entire time due TO the heat. Even I sat down. lol. By the time Def Leppard came out...the heat had gone down considerably (for Texans) but Joe Elliot said "this has got to be the hottest night on the tour so far".

To Lights1961: Nah...wasn't a TOTAL blur. I remember what I need to. Namely EOTB. I've been complaining for years that I hadn't heard that yet....so everyone (even some people on here) can rest assured that I'll shut up now. LOL

They should be glad they got out of the midwest when they did. It was hot while they were in St. Louis but it's like 100 there now and will be for a few days running.

Thanks for the great review Liam!

They did Edge Of The Blade again?
If they can do that one and Troubled Child
in California on Aug 19th I would be about
ready to dole out sexual favors for tickets.

I was also at the show last night, it was actually my first Journey concert. When the tape gate issue came up I was disappointed because I had already had bought my tickets and I just wasn’t sure what was going to happen. Then they dropped Augeri and picked up Jeff Scott Soto who was getting mixed reviews, I didn’t listen to a bootleg I wanted to hear him for myself in person. I have to say he was really the right man for the job, he was original and a great showman. Escape79 covered the basics of the rest of the concert. What I was really impressed with besides the actual performance was the NOCTURNE video screens and the stunning crystal clear visuals that it provided. I was blown away by how great it looked. I was enjoying it during Journey but then when Def Leppard came out they had twice as many visuals and had old pictures in the background, great stuff especially during the song Rocket. I don’t see why Journey didn’t have more visuals; they had the chance to do that too. Journey was more focused on the live cameras rather than the abstract visuals for the most part which was cool to. I enjoyed both acts equally and will not say one was better than the other even though I favor Journey more. They each had aspects that made their performance great. Aside for the time issues I saw a Journey show and a Def Leppard show for me I didn’t care who came on first or last. I look forward to many more Journey and Def Leppard shows, individually I hope so I can get more time with each band.

I saw all 3 shows in TX this past weekend. They did EOTB all 3 nights. Some folks sat down during it - guess they hadn't listened to that "B" side of Frontiers lately... If it weren't for the heat and a foot injury, I would have been up the whole time. The shows were great! Those of you that have a chance to see shows - DO IT! Be sure you hydrate yourself.... 8)

I was at the Dallas show, 2nd row, seat 20 with my sister, we had a great time and the show really rocked. Journey had more energy I thought than Def Leppard, but both were great.

Hell...do what REO did on the Main Event Tour except do the B-side of Frontiers Instead of the A-Side that they did from Hi Infidelity. THAT would be AWESOME for the Diehards. Here's to EOTB, Troubled Child, Balk Talk,Frontiers, and Rubicon. :-)

Oh wait...that last line should be in the Booze Thread. LOL.

I was in Dallas as well - wasn't that close - they rocked! The crowd near the back of the reserved section got in to the show, too!!
