Hmmmm... sounds like a likely excuse. Why not just moderate the threads? If someone starts calling names or dissing other members, delete the offending posts - not the whole thread! Many of the threads started out as good reviews on JSS, then got attacked and derailed by extremist pro-Augeri members.
I moderate several musician forums, so I know the turf. As long as you inform people of the guidelines and warn them, they usually abide by the rules. The ones that won't are an extreme rarity, and deserve to be banned after several warnings if they won't comply with the forum rules regarding derogatory posts. But you shouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
I'm sure glad Andrew doesn't! This place rocks!

It sounds like a reasonable excuse to me. It's well known that BT is heavily moderated, whereas MR is practically unmoderated. I don't want to get into the whole MR v BT debate, but we all need to just get over it and let each forum operate as it see fit.
I've seen some of the JSS v SA v SP v X, Y, Z etc etc threads and once they start to get bitchy, that pervades the whole thread. The moderators don't have the time to work through every such thread selecting individual posts to remove - they are all part time and those forums are very active. Also, removing individual posts often distorts the whole context of the thread, so it doesn't surprise me at all that the whole thread gets removed.
There is nothing more sinister to it. Reviews of all the shows, including JSS, are highly visible on the tour page, and there are numerous more level headed discussions about shows etc in the forum itself.
As to your paragraph about banning people who don't abide by the rules, that does happen over there, but they then get slated for doing it. A lot of people here don't abide by the rules and don't get banned, so I don't quite see your point.
