All JSS threads banned/removed from official Journey forum!

Postby Voyager » Thu Aug 03, 2006 4:26 pm

What a crock! I just visited Journey's official website forum at JourneyMusic.com, and the Mods have banned or removed every thread that had to do with Jeff Scott Soto. That place is such a joke! I remember back when Augeri first replaced Perry - they banned every pro-Perry / anti-Augeri thread. Those guys are heavy on the hammer over there! Sheesh! If you can't talk about Journey's newest member - shut the friggin forum down!

I did a search for "Soto" in the subject line for the past 30 days, and several pages came up in the results. However, when I clicked on them, I got the message:

PAGE MISSING
Sorry, The page that you have requested doesn't exist or the page has moved.
Perhaps you can find it by starting at our main page?

Sorry couldn't resist. :-)

Wow ! They are heavy on the delete button over there. I hadn't noticed that. But then again, I wasn't looking for any threads with JSS. Did they delete all the concert reviews bearing his name? That would suck.

Unless there is an official press release about Augeri, and his condition, BT is, and will be, backing Augeri, and hoping for his return.

Why in the world would they ban any information/threads regarding JSS? Isn't he a part of Journey? Very sad!!!

I'm actually shocked that they would do that. Way to promote Journey!! Unfrickenbelievable !

I see that Yulog posted a "Jeff Scott Soto Test" post over there, and immediately CJ replied:

CJ wrote:Hi.. the threads in question concerning JSS vs. SA were closed and removed because there was major fighting going on in them or the author of the thread requested that it be closed. There are many threads that stand the test of time and follow the rules.

Hmmmm... sounds like a likely excuse. Why not just moderate the threads? If someone starts calling names or dissing other members, delete the offending posts - not the whole thread! Many of the threads started out as good reviews on JSS, then got attacked and derailed by extremist pro-Augeri members.

I moderate several musician forums, so I know the turf. As long as you inform people of the guidelines and warn them, they usually abide by the rules. The ones that won't are an extreme rarity, and deserve to be banned after several warnings if they won't comply with the forum rules regarding derogatory posts. But you shouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I'm sure glad Andrew doesn't! This place rocks!

It sounds like a reasonable excuse to me. It's well known that BT is heavily moderated, whereas MR is practically unmoderated. I don't want to get into the whole MR v BT debate, but we all need to just get over it and let each forum operate as it see fit.

I've seen some of the JSS v SA v SP v X, Y, Z etc etc threads and once they start to get bitchy, that pervades the whole thread. The moderators don't have the time to work through every such thread selecting individual posts to remove - they are all part time and those forums are very active. Also, removing individual posts often distorts the whole context of the thread, so it doesn't surprise me at all that the whole thread gets removed.

There is nothing more sinister to it. Reviews of all the shows, including JSS, are highly visible on the tour page, and there are numerous more level headed discussions about shows etc in the forum itself.

As to your paragraph about banning people who don't abide by the rules, that does happen over there, but they then get slated for doing it. A lot of people here don't abide by the rules and don't get banned, so I don't quite see your point.

Marty :)

Don't know but he seems to be stirring things, whether intentionally or not.

I've done the same here for Perry vs Augeri threads in the past. Look slike some threads have returned, which is a good thing.
