dixie chicks.. say what you want about journey---but these ladies who were once country and now wanting to cross-over to rock or pop or whatever... cant find a audience....cant sell concert tickets even in Des Moines.. they were supposed to be at the wells fargo arena in two weeks.. and have cancelled their dates... I think that makes about 15-20 shows that the dixie chicks have had to either cancel postponed for this tour.. and is what is weird about it all--their CD went to #1....go figure... think about this--- they were on TOP just 2 years ago in CDs and concert revenues.. so see how fast it all goes--

They went on 60 minutes and basically called country fans a bunch of close minded hicks. They are arrogant and think people actually care what they think about politics and world events. The only reason they're having a hard time is because of the Bush remark. I hated them until I heard them bash Bush. Now I defend them.

Um, WHAT country artist ISN'T doing a crossover act these days? Big and Rich? That's pretty rock and roll. If The Eagles came out today, they'd be classified as a COUNTRY band. If you look at any MAJOR country band, they're all taking the Garth Brookes road and acting more like rock acts. I think it's cool and I'm not much of a country fan. Those bands taking that stance have actually kicked that industry in the ass. I think it's cool. Too bad more rock acts would rather look wallow in the whole 'mad at the world' thing than to put on an actual SHOW. I remember when Styx used to get lambasted for making their concerts SHOWS. Today's country acts have picked up the ball from them and are using it to there advantage. People get bored watching people standing their and just playing. Give them something to look at. Hell, even Bon Jovi are trying to cross over to Country.

Maybe. But they still didn't start writing songs until now. Most of their really popular stuff was either awful covers ("Landslide") or lesser known songs by infinitely more talented people like Patty Griffin.

I live in Nashville.... and a lot of people down here would have forgiven her had she said her piece and shut the hell up. I like the Dixie Chicks and would gladly pay to see them. The boycott of their CDs by fans was absurd to me.... so they don't like Bush, neither do I, no big deal.

This reminds me of that Trial By Fire discussion I had yesterday... that's exactly how I feel about bands I follow closely. I don't like U2 or Green Day for this reason. I would be annoyed if Journey used their status to push a political or religious agenda. Quoting the Bible in TBF toes that line IMO... although it's not saying "be Christian" it still implies religious preference... like I said, I still like the song though.

The lyrics in that song could be applied to any number of religions. Jesus isn't mentioned. Jehovah isn't mentioned. Lots of common, every day sayings are taken from quotes in the Bible and don't necessarily imply that the artist is Christian or is trying to impart Christian beliefs to their audience.

If I say someone is "the apple of my eye" (a quote from the Bible), it doesn't necessarily have a spiritual connotation just because it came from the Bible.

Green Days shows last year kicked major ass. Best live band I've seen in years. Very fun concerts. Too bad, you missed a good show! Same with U2, great shows last year.

Bono has been preaching for over 25 years. The difference with him is he is out there trying to fix problems. He highlights what he sees as solutions to problems (positive) rather than just blaming those he feels are responsible (negative). Natalie just bitches about problems. That's the difference between them.

Natalie is totally free to bash anyone she pleases. Her audience on the other hand is totally free to wash their hands of her. She doesn't have a right to an audience. As for her bandmates being angry with her, maybe they are. But they don't seem to be seperating themselves from her or doing damage control. Not to mention they were a band long before Natalie was around and pretty much played street corners, so without her there wouldn't have been the success in the firstplace.

Oh, and IMO the last two albums stunk compared to the first two. Add to that bashing the fanbase and turnover in music in general is it any surprise that their popularity has waned?

I don't care enough to agree with them or not, but when Martie Maguire said, "I'd rather have a smaller following of really cool people who get it, who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith. We don't want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do." I think that pissed a lot of country fans off.

That and Natlie's asinine remark about patriotism. I just believe musicians should just shut up and sing for their own good. Why risk offending potentially half of your fan base just to mouth off?

Too often, people pander after them because of their celebrity status and frankly, the celebs are using their status to further their political beliefs. I don't like it when Repubs or Demos do it. Exactly right lights. People like to blame Bush for starting all this. All he's doing is trying to solve a problem that has been festering for hundreds of years. And in the Nuclear age we can't sit idly by anymore. The only time radical Islamic Fascists will negotiate is if they think it'll give them a strategic advantage, i.e., give them time to recoup and strengthen so they can strike you again when you don't expect it. Couple of things...when U2 first started hitting the charts years ago, they were classified as "Christian Rock." They could readily be found in Christian bookstores in many places across the nation. Then, they started moving away from that with many of the lyrics to their songs and were summarily removed from many of those same Christian bookstores. In fact "I still haven't found what I'm looking for..." is often said among Christian circles to be their wholesale rejection of Christianity.

When I hear TBF, I don't hear them preaching repentance, or advocating Christianity, or any religion. In my opinion, they're simply stating that we are all "treasures in jars of clay." Wow, how beautifully that sums up the human experience. To me, that part of the song simply points to the fact that all of us as human beings, while treasures each one, are so easily broken or damaged through the experiences that life brings our way. Can anyone really deny that? For myself, I can't. There is a deep sadness in that song, yet there is light at the end of the tunnel. To me, that's what the song says in a nutshell. There's always a light at the end of the tunnel.
