Jesus, and people are worried about JSS hitting all the notes...are you kidding me right now? Love Perry but all you believers thinking 20 years after this show he can do it any better than his predecesor are beyond foolish. I LOVE Perry & all he did but this just goes to show, if you heard this as the 'new' guy in Journey, you'd all be pissing & moaning...& this is PERRY! I love it!

it has always seemed to me that steve changed up how he sings the songs a bit on the ROR tour, diff inflections, some are a bit faster as well,, they sound different because of it,, still sounds amazing!! thanks lovelylourds!!

Stating the facts my friend...there's no bigger Perry fan in the UNIVERSE than me but for fuck's sake, how anyone can complain JSS can't hit the high notes or is 'pitchy' at times has to give me a break! It aint all peaches & cream on the road & boots are obviously no way to judge a singer. I happen to dig JSS's voice, don't know all his work except a few Talisman & solo stuff here & there but I have no problem with him in Journey.
Perry sounds very husky here, I missed the ROR tour but caught him twice on the FTLOBM tour & he didn't sound this raw. I kinda like it though, it makes the songs rock more...but again my point is what the new guy is bringing to the table...hell, sounds more like this, not the Pro Tools version of the 2001 DVD!

I agree. Still They Ride sounds awesome. The current lineup isn't even close on this one. No comparison to this boot.

Still don't get ya, man, calm down, nobody was talking about JSS, just getting a boot. What's FTLOBM, anyway? Chill!

Oops, meant to say FTLOSM, my bad!! Sorry, it's just the recent posts on here about boots have been slaggin' the new boy, didn't mean to get anyone up in arms about it, it's just that listening to this one sparked up the controversy everyone bitching about. I couldn't help but think about JSS's Atlanta boot in comparison (although no comparison of course, this is PERRY!) & made me wonder if some people had wax in their ears.
My point was 'can't judge a singer by his boot' even when it's our boy SP!

You can judge a singer by a boot. It's a true, live recording.
Don't give me any of that Red13 or Monker bullshhit. If a singer fucks up, you hear it...if he sings strong, you hear it. It's raw.
Hell, if that's your argument, you can't judge Fraudgeri by Vegas 2001.....Hell, it wasn't even live for fucks sake. It was taped, then protooled, then recorded in studio. Yeah, I guess you can judge Fraudgeri...he sucks!

Question is, is lipsyncher really gone 4 good? Eric Ragno said he was on 7/6 so I say he is. Eric is JSS good bud. He wouldn't of said it if it weren't true right Deano?

Even back in 1986 Steve was struggling with emulating his own studio vocal tracks in a live setting. I can only imagine what it would be like to try it in 1996 and in 2006 when he was 10 and 20 years older. Let's face it, some studio tracks are extremely difficult to be reproduced in a live setting. When the singers are 20-something years old and their adrenalin is going full tilt, they can pull off near-miracles in the studio. Then afterwards when they are on the road they say, "Why in the funk did I hit that damn note so high? What the hell was I thinking?"
Good luck to anyone who tries to emulate Steve Perry's vocal tracks. They're going to need steroids to do it.

Not bullshit. Difference between a bootleg taped by a dude aiming a recorder at an amp from 250 feet away or a soundboard recording. Joe Louis Arena '86 is even better, a radio broadcast.
You dope.

Up until this 86 tour, Perry could hit ALL the notes ALL the time. This tour was when you really saw what it was doing to him and actually saw him slipping...

Hi, just a quick thank you to lovelylourdes for putting up the livemusic stuff this morning, how gorgeous! I cannot believe how much we miss Steve Perry! how could he have just walked away from that?! someone last night, maybe deano or another guy wrote that if they sold tickets with Steve Perry again it wouldn't just be concert venues sold out it would be STADIUMS and that is the truth! These guys are not getting younger and they really should do this and soon while their fans are still in love with them!!!!! anyway, the crowd cheering for them in those live shows is just amazing, thanks again!!!!

"stadiums"?
As much as I dig Journey with Perry I think them selling out stadiums wouldn't happen. Not many folks are selling out stadiums (Mccartney, stones, U2) not many others. I have a hard time believing it'd happen. Someone else commented on the audience screams. NO DOUBT! I miss that big time. It was SO huge in the 80s. I always see critics and VH1 shows that claim the 80s were the days of shit rock and sell out bands, blah blah blah blah...
you NEVER hear crowds like this anymore. Thanks to the poster!
How come they don't got this live sharin' goin' on in the Styx group!?

Okay maybe Stadium rather than stadiums, but I could see it happening with Perry back, he has a HUGE following and his voice cannot be copied. I would pay $1,000 for a ticket to that! I'm not sure if he still has it, but maybe he could get it for 1 really big concert. They should atleast try. I guess they all been there done that though and ready to move along, but these concerts are obviously making them some big money$$$$ I can't believe they didn't play anything from Generations album though, I guess they didn't want to without Steve A....and how can all these people really believe he has been fired, he's got something seriously wrong with his throat and that is his instrument, he's got to have some serious downtime to heal. He's probably super embarrassed and disappointed and the band is probably like...we gotta job to do..let's do it! If you look at their tour schedule its been murderous, anyone's voice would weaken over that! I just don't understand why some of these people think he's been let go forever?
