"If This Is The End" by JSS. One of my favorite ballads of all-time. Well written and sung. Looks like he has his buddies in the video too. Awesome piece of work.

If This Is The End is an AWESOME song. I brought up a few weeks ago that it sounded quite a bit like Possession by Bad English. I'm not saying it's a "rip off" but there's a lot that sounds familiar ESPECIALLY during the 1st verse.
Maybe it's just me????

Would be nice to hear this song at a show. Hey, he is the lead singer. Playing ONE of his solo songs would just show the audience that they have a great artist in the band now. I think because he's not a cookie cutter of Perry or Augeri that it IS important to show that he's made some VERY quality music in the past. Also, it lightens his workload because he's not singing someone elses song. This song would go over MUCH better than Faith In The Heartland or The Place In Your Heart. Could easily become a "sing-along."

They couldn't possibly do that unless JSS becomes the official permanent lead singer of Journey.

I think playing a JSS solo song would definately indicate that JSS is a permanent replacement for Steve Augeri. Journey may make a LOT of mistakes, but I think they know they need to make it official before doing anything else. To finish this tour is "officially" why JSS is there. Remember, the band "officially" said they are expecting Steve to return.

It is a great song but I think the audience would just use it as an excuse for a beer break, unfortunately.

I suspect some fans felt that way the instant JSS tore into "Faith in the Heartland".

You have a point...it bothered me to hear JSS sing Augeri-era material at first as well. But I think it had to do with the fact that the band in general has played so little of Augeri-era material WITH Steve that it seemed like a slap in the face to play it without Steve.

Perhaps.
I figure if the band can play songs that Perry wrote by himself (LTS) without any scrupples, then there shouldn't be a problem playing anything Augeri collaboratively helped out on.

I agree. I finally resolved that if it has the "Journey" name on it, then it can be played by Journey...no matter who is singing.

I see no good reason Jeff shouldn't get one song to showcase how well he can sing one of HIS OWN songs. Hell, he saved their asses and kept this tour alive. Moreover, him moving in so seamlessly kind of put "tape-gate" on the backburner. While they don't "owe" him anything it would be a classy gesture....something they haven't done in quite some time.

Fuckin' right they should let him. And if I were him I'd ask. Unless he already has something in writing guaranteeing him more work with them after this tour, what does he have to lose. I know him and Neal are tight, but who's to say he doesn't get tossed aside after this tour. Hell, it's POSSIBLE Perry returns or Augeri's voice pulls a "Lazurus" and rises from the dead. Jeff deserves at least one song. He put aside everything he was doing, and as far as we know, has nothing guaranteed in his Journey future. It's time Journey reciprocates for a change.

The Talisman tour was cancelled so that he could help them out...it would be a decent thing to do.

And here's HOW you do it. Jon speaking: "As some of you know, Steve Augeri, our lead singer of the past 8 years has been sidelined with a severe throat infection. Fortunately, a tremendous artist and friend of the Journey family, Mr. Jeff Scott Soto, has been gracious enough to lend his talents to us and keep this rockin' tour alive. Without him, we wouldn't be here tonight. Here's a sample of Jeff's solo work, an amazing ballad called "If This Is The End." Ladies and gentleman, Mr. Jeff Scott Soto!!!!"
