Favorite "Big 5" Journey Release

Which is your favorite and why? Tunes? Lineup? Songwriting? Melodies? Lyrics?

"Frontiers"...The only dud, in my opinion, is "Back Talk" and even that rocks. I like the extra grittiness in Perry's voice. I think it worked well for the tunes on that album.

Frontiers just for the simple fact that it was the 1st Journey album I got the day it was released. I was 3 and made my brother tell my mom and I when to go get it. Same thing with "Kilroy Was Here" by Styx. Can ya tell I've ALWAYS been into music. LOL

It's a toss-up of Frontiers and Escape for me. When I was a kid, my first taste of Journey was riding in my uncles 1977 Cutlass and he had an 8 track in it. I was looking through the 8-tracks and thought that Escape was the coolest artwork I had ever seen. I was about 9-10 years old I think. I put that in and listened to it and found another 8-track with their name on it and it was Frontiers. Seperate Ways was by far my favorite of all the tunes I had heard of them that day and Don't Stop Believin' came in second. So I have to go with Frontiers.

The funny thing is, remember seeing Journey on MTV not too long after that adn though Neal Schon's hair was hilarious  I couldn't believe it was the same band I was listening to in Tims car.

Departure for me. I love the Gregg Rolie organ sound. Cain just didn't sound the same altho he is the one who wrote the big hits. Songwise: People & Places grabs me everytime. Great song.

Have to go with Frontiers, Escape is 2nd, but the others run close behind! As for why - why else - it's Journey!!

Going with Infinity ...

Winds of March is one of my favorite Journey songs ever.

Patiently? I'll take this over Open Arms and Faithfully any day.

Feeling That Way/Anytime...

Escape and Fronties ties for second.

DEPARTURE

I like the harder rocking progressive edge to it.

Yeah, you're right. "Frontiers" doesn't touch it. It leaps right over it.

ESC4P3 for me. It was my first Journey album that I bought and listened to over and over. This one, more for the memories :D

Frontiers for me. It was the very first Journey album I bought, and from that purchase, I continued to get everything else...I was hooked

It brings back a lot of memories for me as well. Those teenage years, seems like ages ago :D

Frontiers for me. The B-Sides on Escape tend to annoy me. Lay it Down/Dead or Alive. Whereas Rubicon, Frontiers and Edge of the Blade I like. Back Talk's unlistenable but the rest of the album more than makes up for it.

To me, every song on ESC4P3 is strong. On Frontiers, BT sux, and Rubicon is just OK. Frontiers (the song) is good, but isn't a song I want to hear often. I do love EOTB and TC.

Look at the heavyweights that ESC4P3 delivers. Friggin' amazing. Not even an average song in the bunch, IMO.

I'll take 1/2 of Escape and 1/2 of Frontiers.

Two gems indeed.

That's a scene from a skit on SNL. It's Will Ferrell.

I didn´t vote coz it´s impossible.
Frontiers would be the best album for any AOR band out there but Escape is the masterpiece of masterpieces while Infinity is the closest one to my heart.
I have many fine memories to Departure........I don´t wanna choose.
And where´s ROR? Jesus......with songs like Girl cant help it,Be good to yourself,Happy
to give,Why cant this night go on forever,Suzanne........sounds like a BIG ONE to me.
Journey is not just a band,it´s a way of life!

I didn't include that one because I don't personally feel that was a true "Journey" effort, but more of a Steve Perry album, considering they let Ross and Steve go. It had some good tunes, but something was missing

Departure

It was the last album of THE classic lineup - I prefer Rollie over Frigga any day.

Plus:

Any Way You Want It
Precious Time
Good Morning Girl
Stay A While
People and Places

Perry's voice hadn't yet started getting raspy and lower as was barely noticeable on Escape - my second favorite. To me, Departure is pure Journey.
